Summary:

Mar-Vell didn't think anybody had noticed her - but of course Philippa has.

Work Text:

Mar-Vell stands at the door of the Shenzhou’s engine room, as if mesmerized by the glow of the warp core.

She doesn’t think anybody’s noticed her, engrossed as they are in their tasks. She longs to go in there, ask them all a million questions about how it all works. This isn’t even new ground for them, she’s realized. It’s all in a day’s work.

It does remind her a bit of the light that comes from the Tesseract. She can’t help but wonder if they truly do come from the same source - somehow proof, even across timelines, that she succeeds at what she’s set out to do, that maybe there’s hope for her reality too -

A hand touches her arm. “Mar-Vell.”

There’s a knowing look in Philippa’s eyes when Mar-Vell turns around. “Have you been watching me?” Mar-Vell says. “Making sure I don’t steal your secrets?”

“Perhaps,” Philippa says. “But I find I’m enjoying watching.”

Mar-Vell narrows her eyes. “You’re trying to distract me, aren’t you.”

“I wasn’t sure I could. You were quite far away.” Philippa gestures in the direction Mar-Vell had been looking. “This means something to you, doesn’t it.”

“It does,” Mar-Vell says. “It means everything.”
