Chapter 1: Exposition | Chapter 0
Chapter Text
Screams of the innocent filled the air, as they ran away at surprisingly fast speeds. Blood being splattered on the streets like someone has spilled gallons of fake blood in an accident. This was sadly not the case however. Some people were trying to hide, but some people took their chances and ran for their life. Till, they realized this was a BIG mistake.
A string of guts grabbed Mime by the neck, pulling him backwards while making him unable to breath. He struggled, but his attempts didn’t mean anything as the string of guts tightened on his neck, finally killing him off. A rough laugh filled with malice followed his death, as the veteran stomped on Mimes head, making his brains spatter on the ground.
There he was. “Flippy” The same person who fought in the veteran war, yet the same person to cause such a disaster to happen each time he was “ticked off”. This man, he was something else. “Flippy” started to run towards the remaining people that were unfortunate to not find a hiding place in time. Using the guts he pulled out of poor bystander, he made it into a lasso and lassoed Cuddles. He yanked the rope of guts back, making Cuddles scream in horror, before hitting a fire hydrant that caused Cuddle’s head to burst. A sinister smile formed on “Flippy’s” face, but before he knew it, the water from the fire hydrant hit his face. As the water started to die down, he coughed the water out of his throat. Slowly, he got up, confused by what happened, before realizing the mess he just caused. He threw his hands up to his face, his eyes wide open looking at the “beheaded” Cuddles on the ground, before running away from the scene.
The superhero flew above the town, aware of the screams of people that temporarily filled the normally peaceful place. It was something weird for him, considering that no one in their right mind would just scream like they were in agony when they weren’t. He knew that something must have gone wrong, or even worse. A murder. He didn’t want to think that someone was that insane to do such a thing. If it was the case though, he’d make sure it wouldn’t happen ever again.
A blood stain on the ground that caught his eye made him stop in his tracks. His eyes widened at the mere sight of it.
‘Blood? This isn’t good.’ He flew towards the blood slowly, and landed on the ground near it. It was only then he realized that a blood trail followed after it. A chill of horror went down his spine, as the blood trail made him start to panic a bit.
‘I can’t just freeze up here. Hero’s don’t do that.’ He told himself. He walked to the corner of the street, before seeing a horrific scene unfold in front of his eyes.
Bodies laid down on the ground, with some of them having their guts ripped out of their own body. Dried up blood covering what used to be the sidewalk, and two cars that seemingly crashed into people on purpose. The dried up blood on the cars would also help his theory.
‘Damn?! There’s no way this guy was in his right mind, no one I know in this town would do this-’ Footsteps' caught his attention before he could finish his thoughts, as his eyes darted to the source of the footsteps. A lime green leg was the only thing he could see of the guy, before they disappeared.
“HEY!” He called out to the guy he saw past the corner, but no answer. He quickly ran over to the corner, hoping to catch the person. But no one was there. It was like they just disappeared in thin air.
‘He definitely heard me. Otherwise, they wouldn’t just leave like that. And I doubt this guy got hurt in this massacre.’ He narrowed his eyes on the path. ‘That means he’s the one that did it.’
He huffed, before leaving the scene. Even if he couldn’t catch the guy on the spot, he already had something to help him catch the guy. That one green leg that stuck out from the corner.

RING, RING! The clock besides his bed would ring, notifying him that it was a start of a fresh new day. Splendid slowly got up from his bed, before resetting the clock back to normal. He grabbed his civilian disguise and hastily put it on, as he went to his kitchen to pour some cereal and milk into a bowl. After finishing his cereal, he grabbed his suitcase, and ran to work.
'Sometimes I wish I could just fly there instead of running!' He shouted in his mind. But he couldn't complain about it to much, considering flying in his civilian wear would blow his cover immediately.
"h-hi, Spencer..!" Flaky would quickly say to him as he ran by.
"Hey, Flaky!" He yelled back to her, which caused her to cover her ears from how loud he sounded.
He winced, noticing that there was now blood leaking down from her ears. Oops. He could see her screaming her mouth off from the distance, he was lucky enough to not hear it.
The clock ticked to 7:59, and Spencer was nowhere to be seen. His tardy-ness had started to get on peoples nerves, considering he was one of the more "important" roles in the job. But, they couldn't fire him. No one else was willing to take his job. So, they couldn't afford to lose their only person that was willing to work as a photographer. Luckily, he was somehow good at capturing all the latest stuff, so they excused his late comings. For now.
Spencer speeded through the doors of the building, almost looking crazed while doing so. He didn't notice half the weird looks he was getting, as he stamped his time card just in time. The clocked ticked to 8:00, making him nod and smile.
"Spencer," Sniffles said, "Just on time." He gave one of those monotone looks to him. Spencer, didn't take one note of it at all.
"Yeah, of course I am." He had a smug tone to his voice, but it made Sniffles irritated to how smug he could be after being late the other two days. Not to mention, but it was in a ROW as well.
Of course, Spencer didn't pick up on this. And Sniffles gave a side eye to him.
'Same stupid person that was late for far to many days.' Sniffles whispered under his breath.
What Sniffles didn't seem to know is that Spencer heard his little outburst thanks to his super hearing. But, he couldn't do anything about it. Not without Sniffles questioning how he heard it. He would remember his words though, even if he wasn't meant to hear it. It broke his heart a bit though. He didn't think that Sniffles would say that about him. However, being the clueless person he was, it would have helped if he knew why Sniffles said that.
Whatever. He had more important stuff to do. He walked to his desk, trying to organize his work place before starting, while feeling like he forgot something. Mole started to walk up to his desk, or at least was trying to.
"Hey Mole, over here!" Mole looked at where he was, his yelling helping him, and walked up to him.
"Thanks." Mole said.
"No problem! It looked like you were tryin' to find me though."
"Oh, I was. Were you able to catch any pictures of yesterday?"
Then it hit him. He was to stumped by the person who he assumed was the murderer, that he forgot to take the pictures for the article. Now, he didn't have any pictures of the slaughter that happened.
"No, I wasn't able to, sorry..." He sounded embarrassed.
"Well, that's sad. It's alright though, I understand why you couldn't take any pictures."
Spencer opened his mouth to talk, then stopped. He wanted to make an excuse to make it look like he wasn't scared too, just was busy. But, no good ones came in mind.
"I'll be going now. Remember to tell the boss that you couldn't get anything of the scene."
"Yeah, okay." Spencer had a slightly bitter tone to his voice.
Mole walked away, accidently bumping into a few peoples desks. He sighed, as he realized there was nothing else he could really do for the day. But something was itching in the back of his mind. What was it? Oh. That person at the scene. Who were they? He didn't quite seem to get it, but he knew that person had to be the murder. How was he going to find them though? Then he realized, only thing he saw of guy was the lime green fur tone of them. It wasn't much, but it narrowed down of who could it been.
Time went by, and soon it was 4:00. Spencer went out of the building, his thoughts from before still stuck in his mind. Since Happy Tree Town was a bit of a small place, and mostly everyone knew each other, there was a chance this guy could be walking around. And he was ready to fight him if necessary. He took a stroll down the street, walking aimlessly, to see if he could catch his eye on any lime green citizen.
Then, he stopped in his tracks, as he eyed a green bear with a military outfit on.
