Work Text:
An eternal bookkeeper and a nonreader is a very unlikely pairing. Yet, they both sat at the bottom of a bookshelf, reading together in close yet comfortable proximity and focus. Well, at least it seemed like it. They flipped through the pages together, thinking the other was reading while they both thought of something else. The ebony haired librarian was silently admiring the focus the ginger nonreader seemed to have, but he quickly realized he wasn’t focused when the redhead asked him a question.
“Myaa, would you rather live in a library, museum, or zoo?”
‘Myaa’ was a nickname Sasaki (the orange haired boy) had for the librarian ever since they met when he had came to the library in search for a textbook he couldn’t find in other libraries. He had been coming to the bookshop daily ever since, always seeking the shorter bookkeeper.
“..I do wish I could go to other places,” Miyano (‘Myaa’s actual name) replied. He hesitated before continuing, embarrassed about what he plans to say next. “But if I were anywhere else besides the library, I wouldn’t have met you.”
Sasaki laughs in endearment and ruffles Miyano’s hair fondly. The raven haired boy pouts in feigned protest. “I’m sure I would’ve found you wherever you had to go,” Sasaki smiles.
Miyano looks away, feeling bashful at how corny Sasaki’s response was. “W-well, in that case,” Miyano stutters. “I’d still choose the library. If I were at a museum, I wouldn’t know what a library or zoo was, but books from a library can illustrate and depict museums and zoos without you needing to go there. I’d be able to experience more, I guess.” Sasaki agrees.
“Maybe one day, I’ll be able to take you to those places,” Sasaki says with a smile. “After all, there might be a way to get you out of here that no one has heard of yet.” Miyano laughs softly.
“One day, Sasaki.” Miyano looks up at him with a small grin, mirth gently glowing in his eyes.
