One quiet summer night, Keahi shows their new friend Nel something spectacular.

Nel yawned, blinking back sleep as Keahi led her into Pokémon Square. Ahead of her, her partner, Keahi, strolled along with a little spring in their step, obviously giddy about something.

“Keahi,” Nel started, “where are we going at this time of night?” she waved her bone club in a circle, gesturing to all the unlit houses in Pokémon Square, whose residents, most likely, were fast asleep.

The Torchic turned to their friend, their eyes twinkling with all the mischievous excitement of someone keeping a secret. “It’s a surprise! You’ll see when we get there!” they answered enthusiastically, making sure to keep their voice hushed, as not to wake the other villagers.

“Okay,” the Cubone responded, trusting that their partner had good reason for guiding her through the dark in the dead of night.

Walking through the center of the square, Nel felt a twinge of uneasiness, like someone was watching her. Glancing all around, the Cubone was unable to catch sight of any potential watchers in the dimness of the indigo night.

“Nel, you okay?” Keahi asked, concern edging into their voice.

The Cubone nodded. “I’m alright. I just thought someone was watching, but that might be just my imagination.”

Keahi glanced around, on the lookout for any potential danger. They let out a sigh of relief. “Coast looks clear, but tell me if you get that feeling again, okay?”

Nel nodded, relieved that she had someone to stand by her. They continued on, until they reached the Pelipper Post Office.

“So what was it you wanted to show me?” Nel inquired.

In response, the Torchic’s feathers puffed up in pride, spread their wings with a flourish, and pointed towards the sky, “Look up!”

The Cubone’s gaze lifted to watch the heavens, and she was captivated by what she saw. Streaks of silver dashed across the sky, descending to the earth below.

“Wow,” Nel murmured, a sense of wonder flowing through her.

She looked to Keahi, who was smiling widely at her. “Well, what do you think?”

“I think it’s great, Keahi. Thank you for sharing this with me,” she laughed, “now I see why you dragged me out bed!”

At that, the two burst into a fit of chuckles, their laughter the only sound in the quiet, still summer night.

“No problem,” Keahi responded to Nel’s earlier proclamation of thanks once their onslaught of laughter had died down. “I like to think that we’re kind of like these meteors.”

Nel raised an eyebrow, slightly confused. “How do you mean?”

The Torchic puffed their feathers up confidently, and exclaimed, “Because we’re Team Galaxy, and we shoot for the stars!”
