Doc likes the way Bdubs smiles.
He loves the way his caramel eyes sparkle when he laughs, and how he's always able to bring subtle beauties out into the open.
"Hey Doc!"
Doc looked up from the ground and smiled as he saw the tan-skinned man beckoning for him to walk with him.
"Hi Bdubs."
Doc tried to ignore the way his heart beat as Bdubs hugged him.
"Come on Doc, there's a bunch of the other hermits in the shopping district for game night."
Right, game night.
Doc landed slightly after Bdubs, the small man was running over to Keralis now. Doc's eyes lingered on him for a moment before his attention was snapped away.
"Hey Doc!" Etho gave a friendly wave as he walked over.
"Hey Slab." Doc says, snickering at the slight annoyance in Etho's eyes.
"Yeah, yeah. Old joke, not funny anymore."
"Is to me."
The hermits played quite a large assortment of games that night. Everyone had already agreed to not let Iskall play Monopoly again, but other than that, Doc had a great time. That was until truth or dare.
"Bdubs; Truth or Dare." Wels said after a pitiful attempt to balance his sword on his knee.
"Truth."
"Who's your best friend?"
Bdubs thought for a long moment before replying. "Doc"
For some reason those words hurt like daggers. Friend; Friend. His stomach twisted as he looked at Bdubs. Well, that was that.
Doc tried to ignore the tightness that grew in his chest over the next few weeks. He walked out of the portal frame as the harsh nether air filled his lungs.
After a small coughing fit, Doc lifted his hand away from his mouth. there was a leaf.
Strange.
Doc let go of it and strode off towards the shopping district.
