Work Text:
“are you sure about this?” noah said, unsure, “of course buddy!! he’ll say yes, i know it!!!”
“but- what if he just- doesn’t-“ owen grabbed noah by his shoulders, noah looked a bit shaken from the sudden movement, “hes gonna say yes.” owen said, looking overly confident. the guy was confident and enthusiastic about everything, how could noah not doubt him?
eva glanced over at them, not understanding why noah was so unsure of himself, “what kind of guy do you think he is? cody would be more upset with himself if he didn’t say yes, he would cry about hurting your feelings or something. hes a loser to be honest, i saw him ball his eyes out over my little pony once.”
—
noah was hesitant about texting gwen, he needed somebody to help him choose a good ring, something cody would cherish for life. he would of texted harold, but he would of probably started sharing the history weddings or something. the second closest person happened to be gwen, and she wasn’t very fond of him. sure they tolerated eachother for codys sake, but they were acquaintances at best.
noah typed his message, reading over it a few times. his message read, ‘hey gwen, im thinking of proposing to cody, can you help me choose a ring?’ he glanced away from his phone, embarrassed, before quickly sending the message.
‘read 4:32’ oh god. of course she would have her read receipts on, she was typing quickly, noah was panicking.
‘sure! does tomorrow work for u?’
phew, she wasn’t offended by noah wanting to marry her best friend, why was he even worried in the first place? he quickly typed a reply,’yeah tomorrow is fine, noon work?’
‘noon is perfect :)’

he was pacing back and forth, he had to meet up with gwen to choose a ring, why did he agree to this? he wasn’t the best at social interaction, and this was way to stressful for him,”hey!! come downstairs noah! youre gonna be late buddy!” owen shouted.
“yeah! ill be down soon!”
—
“this one good?” gwen pointed a ring, it had a pretty sun shape on it, and the corresponding ring was a similar one but with a moon. noah thought they were stylish and cody reminded of the sun so bright and happy, just thinking about him made him smile. how could anybody not like cody? he brightens the mood of everybody around him, even noah.
noah finally found it in him to respond,”yeah i think cody will love it.”
they had planned to have lunch after this, and they were starving considering they went to the jewelry store at noon, so it was about 2:30pm. they were eating sandwiches together,”gwen? would it be good to propose to him on a picnic date?”
“oo! that sounds like a good idea, don’t tell cody i said this, but hes always wanted to be proposed at a picnic date.”
—
noah had been preparing, going so far out of his comfort zone, first getting the motivation to even try to propose, then going ring shopping, and finally planning the date.
he dipped chocolate covered strawberrys and got a cake, it was a small one, the diameter being less, but still a cylindrical shape. he made sandwiches, which he made sure weren’t soggy. cody was smiling so hard when he realized how much effort his boyfriend put into this date, “awh!! chocolate covered strawberrys, i didn’t think you could be this romantic,” noah blushed, “yeah, i thought you’d like them.”
“a cake?? noah!! you really went all out!!”
noah knew it was almost time to do it. to finally propose, after they finished eating of course. noah wasn’t usually a nervous person, but proposing to somebody was a big deal. hell, this was a huge deal. you could visibly tell that he was distressed, or physically tell. noah happened to have much of a expressionless face, but cody could just feel the negative energy radiating off of him, “noah you okay?”
“yeah.”
“you can tell me anything, you know that right?” noah knew this was the perfect time to tell him, he knew,”well. theres one thing i have to tell you.”
“cody.-“ he got down on his knee, “will you marry me?”
cody stood there and smiled so hard, his face showing pure joy, “oh my god yes!!! yesyesyes!!!”
cody was hugging noah as hard as he could,”to be honest i thought you were give me the worst news of my life, you sounded so distressed.”
“sorry, i was scared you would say no,”
“why would i say no?”
