Katsuki Bakugou and Eijirou Kirishima were best friends. So when Katsuki gifted Eijirou a ticket to his ice figure skating competition Eijirou seemed to be over the moon at that. Katsuki liked seeing his best friend be overjoyed and exited about something. Katsuki even thought about inviting him over for a friendly dinner afterwards. As friends. Like Eijirou wanted. Like Katsuki said he wanted too. Just friends.
A couple of days before the big event Katsuki starts to worry. Which isn't really like him. He knows and has quite enough faith in his skills to do well, so why did his heart pound faster at that thought of the event starting? At the thought of Eijirou watching him.
Eijirou had come to his practices to cheer him on or sometimes even join in. Though, he was horrible at it. Two left feet, that one has. So why did his hands start to tremble at the thought of Eijirou watching him kick ass at a real competition this time? Why was Katsuki afraid? Would Eijirou think this was unmanly?
Katsuki was suddenly yanked out of his thoughts by his phone ringing. It was Eijirou. He probably wanted to talk about his competition. Katsuki lets it rings for a couple seconds, just to hear the ringone Katsuki specifically set only for Eijirou so he could always tell the difference between Eijirou calling him and everyone else. Normally Katsuki would dive for his phone but this time, he didn't know how to face Eijirou. He knew talking to Eijirou would easily calm his nerves like it always did, but he didn't think he could trust himself to hear the redhead's voice without tearing up and just worrying the man more.
And soon the day off the tournament had finally rolled around and He'd barely spoken to Eijirou. He almost expected him to not even show. That would certainly calm his nerves atleast a little. That was, atleast until he saw a familiar flash of red in the corner of his eye. He let the idiot's figure take over his entire attention. This moron, decided to wear a whole ass suit. To an ice skating figure competition. Not to mention his tie was truly dreadful and clashed with everything else he had on. Including his hair. Oh no, his hair. He had his hair spiked up in the shittiest way possible. Katsuki wanted to shove his hand into it and push it down, but it'd probably make the shitty-haired man sad so he decided against it.
He still had time before his competition, so he slung his skates over his shoulder and walked over to the redhead. Who's face immediately looked like he was either running on a couple cans of bang energy drinks while being sick again, or he was blushing profusely. Katsuki preferred the idea of the latter.
"Hey, Ei."
His face was still red as he stared at Katsuki with a dumb look. "Hi. . ." He said, looking down. Katsuki noticed he had quickly put his hands behind his back.
"Eijirou, I swear to god if you snuck a puppy in here-"
"I didn't! I mean- not this time atleast. ." He sputtered.
"Then what do you have behind your back?"
"It's not anything important- I mean it is, but not right now-"
Katsuki tapped his foot impatiently. "Eijirou. . ." He said in a dangerous tone, which set the redhead on another stuttering, rambling tangent. "Karaoke Machine?" Katsuki asked in a serious tone.
"What?" The redhead laughed at that, Katsuki felt his face heat up "Of course not! Where would you even get an idea like that!"
"Considering your track record. . ." Katsuki said as he turned his head away from Eijirou, hoping to conceal his reddened face.
"Hey, that was one time!" Eijirou said, still laughing and concealing whatever it is he had behind his back from Katsuki as Katsuki tried to peek around him.
"So, what is it. Then?" He gave up on trying to peek around his back.
"That's not important right now. What is important is you stretching. Never thought of you to be one to slack off, Katsuki."
"Fuck you! You're lucky I even walked over here." Katsuki said, turning heel and starting to strut away.
"Uh huh, well. I'll let you get to it. And Katsuki?"
Katsuki turned to look at him. "What do you want?"
"Good luck out there."
"Fuck you! I don't need luck. I'm gonna win." 'And I'm gonna knock Eijirou's socks off' Katsuki thought that last part internally.
He should've taken the luck when he had the chance. He was going to need it if he was going to impress his best friend. Katsuki knew he mophead would be proud of him no matter what he did, but he wanted him to be proud of him because he'd earned it. Not just because they were best friends. But because he did good.
Katsuki should've known his hands would be shaking as he stepped out onto the ice, he took a few strides out into the starting point. He took a deep shaky breath. Tried to relax a bit. He'd fail in front of not only Eijirou but hundreds to thousands of people if he didn't calm down soon. What if he doesn't calm down? What if he-
"KATSUKI!!! DO YOUR BEST YOU'VE GOT THIS IN THE BAG!!!"
Katsuki didn't even need to look at the source of the voice to know which idiot it belonged to. It was his idiot that was screaming at him in front of everyone. That was just the luck he needed to take another deep breath. It didn't rid him of the shaking in his hands but it certainly did make him feel better. Thanks, Shitty hair. Katsuki thought to himself moments before a loud buzzer was heard throughout the rink, and the song Katsuki chose and choreographed to started playing.
Katsuki glided through his movements quickly. Each rhythmic pattern of the song shone through every movement and 'jump' as Eijirou liked to unprofessionally call it. Every time Katsuki landed a 'jump' he got points. The choreograph of the song was perfect. he knew Eijirou would be proud.
As the song came to a close, Katsuki was breathing heavy. As soon as he was given the signal to relax, he quickly started searching the stadium for his idiot. He found him easily, of course. With that hair in clothes he stuck out like a sore thumb. Katsuki skated over to Eijirou.
"Well? What did you think?"
"What did I think?? You did AMAZING Katsuki!" Eijirou said, walking along the barrier that Katsuki was skating along the side of, until they reached the opening. Eijirou sprang into his arms and gave him the biggest one-armed hug he's ever had in a long while. One arm because clearly, Eijirou still had something behind his back.
"Are you gonna show me what it is now?"
"Yeah uh, but- don't freak out okay?"
"Eijirou, not again. How many times to I have to tell you dogs—and cats don't belong in ice skating rinks."
"I know! It's not- it's not that." Eijirou said as he slowly brought his arm from behind his back presenting a big bouquet of red roses to Katsuki. He held it out to Katsuki in a way that seemed he expected Katsuki to be angry with him. Katsuki took it, and inspected it. There was a card inside, but as soon as Katsuki laid his eyes on it and went to grab it Eijirou stuck his hand in and pulled it out.
"Give it back."
"It's really not important. Honest, Kat."
"I said give it to me. Right now, Eijirou."
"It's not important!" Eijirou said waving his hands defensively. The perfect opportunity to snatch the card back out of Eijirou's hand to read it-
Dear, Katsuki.
I know you probably don't feel the same but hiding things from you isn't very manly of me-
How ironic. Katsuki thought. The idiot has been hiding shit from him all evening. He even tried to hide the card. Katsuki looked up to see the pure horror on Eijirou's face as he continued to read the card and laugh to himself.
So, I have something to confess. I've liked you since 3rd year of high school. Spending time with you and being your best friend has been fun, I hope we can stay friends after this-
Well no shit he liked him. They'd been friends since first year or high school. You can't just be best friends with someone for years and not actually like spending time with them. Katsuki looked back up at Eijirou.Who was now burying his face into his hands and Katsuki guessed he was probably blushing furiously. Katsuki loved seeing him all flustered like this.
It's not just like, not even like like anymore, it's grown even stronger since we've grown older. And, I don't want to keep hiding things from you so here.
I'm in love with you Katsuki, Bakugou. You're an awesome best friend but I think you'd be an even better boyfriend. Will you go out with me?
Love,
Your (hopefully) soon to be boyfriend, Ei.
Katsuki froze. Looked back up at Eijirou who was looking at him with his usual puppy eyes.
"I. . . I take it you don't feel the same? I understand, man. It's okay. I'll get over it."
Katsuki Immidiately stuffed the card and flowers into one of his arms and grabbed the back of Eijirou's head with his other, mashing his fingers into the back of his hair and brought Eijirou into an unexpected kiss as the whole stadium went wild. Katsuki pulled away to notice both him, and Eijirou were on the screens above the rink. A kiss cam. Katsuki turned back to face Eijirou who's face could easily be mistaken for his hair. Katsuki kissed him again.
"Let's get out of here." Katsuki said, dragging Eijirou out by his poor excuse of a tie.
"Wait! What about the scores? Don't you want to wait to see if you won?"
"I don't care, tonight is already a win enough for me."
Maybe it wasn't luck, but what happened that night was certainly something Katsuki would never forget.
