Summary:

A glimpse of how Kim Seungmin works as a pediatrician professionally with Soonie beside him during the day and immediately became a sappy, in love husband of Lee Minho during the night.

“I hate you,” Minho whispered. He’s sure that any hopes of the phrase having even the slightest semblance of effect is immediately vanquished by the way he says it – breathless and adoring and totally, completely lovesick. “You’re infuriating.”

“You love me,” Seungmin repeated, looking even more pleased with himself than before.

Work Text:

Being a pediatrician has always been a dream for Kim Seungmin ever since he was a little kid. He graduated first in his class of Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery with flying colours. Another perk of being born with a silver spoon in his mouth was that he managed to open his own pediatrician clinic in the middle of Gangnam City. But among all of the blessings he has, he is absolutely grateful for being married to Lee Minho.

Lee Minho, then a senior in a Culinary course who also unexpectedly danced as his minor. Seungmin accidentally met him when he bumped into Minho’s shoulder, and instead of apologizing, both of their eyes widened as they felt their soulmate mark tingle upon the contact.

He then dated Lee Minho for three years which shocked their whole group of friends (who initially didn’t know they were soulmates). His now husband of two years works as a chef de cuisine at Josun Palace Hotel just a few blocks near his clinic.

Seungmin leaned back in his chair while caressing Soonie’s fur. Most of the time, he’ll bring one of the cats to his clinic for fun and bring them back home after closing hours. Minho doesn’t mind, as long as no one hurts his babies.

And today, it’s Soonie’s turn. Seungmin giggled softly, looking at his phone at how Minho, who’s currently on a three-day leave, took a silly picture of himself and two of the cats at home.

Seungmin chuckled, showing his screen to Soonie, who’s on his lap, “Look Soonie, look at your hyung and siblings, they’re so silly,” and as if Soonie understood, he pawed at Seungmin’s screen softly and meowed before snuggling his way to Seungmin’s stomach.

“Hmmh baby, you look comfy hmmh?” Soonie purred as Seungmin scratches his chin, “Going to take a picture of you baby, hyung’s probably wondering what you’re doing here,” Seungmin straightened up his phone, aligning them properly before snapping a picture of his hand, showing off the soulmate mark on his wrist, scratching Soonie.

Seungmin hummed delightedly, pressing the ‘send’ button before placing his phone down on the desk, giving Soonie his whole attention.

They only lasted for 5 minutes before a loud knock on Seungmin’s door was heard. Seungmin gave his permission to the person behind it to open it, which soon showed Chaewon’s head poking in, “I’m sorry for disturbing you, doctor.” She said politely.

Seungmin likes her. She’s one of the few staff who actually does her work passionately and is very good with infants. Seungmin shook his head, “It’s fine, just patting Soonie here. What’s wrong, Chaewon-shi?”

“Ah, Mrs. Geum and her son came twenty minutes earlier for their monthly appointment at five in the evening, Doc. And she’s asking if you could meet them now.” Chaewon let out a smile, explaining everything professionally to Seungmin.

“Good thing I’m currently free now. Bring Mrs. Geum and Yohan in. I don’t mind at all,” Seungmin said, placing Soonie down on the round cat bed behind him.

“Right away, doctor! I’ll send them to Felix first for appointment registration and lead them in afterward,” Chaewon bowed her head before closing the door behind her.

Seungmin nodded his head before turning his attention below to Soonie, “Hmmh, now I’m going to attend someone. So be a good boy as you are, Soonie,” Seungmin caressed the cat’s head, whomeowed before laying down comfortably on the cat bed.

After a couple of minutes, Chaewon knocked on Seungmin’s door, bringing both of the aforementioned people into his office.

Seungmin stood on his feet, bowed respectfully, and gave a bright wide smile to Mrs. Geum before looking at her son, Yohan. Seungmin squatted down, maintaining eye contact with his regular patient.

“Hey, Yohannie! It has been a while since we’ve seen each other,” Seungmin said and Yohan nodded, “Yes Doctor! Lots of days since I’ve seen you,” he cutely said, making Seungmin pat his short wavy hair.

“Come on, let’s sit down,” Seungmin holding out his palm for Yohan to take and wrapped his small hands around his big hands, leading the child to his desk with Mrs. Geum followed them from behind. Chaewon quietly found her own way out of the room like she always does.

Seungmin helped Yohan to sit on the chair before walking away and sitting in his place across of the patients. “I’m sorry for coming twenty minutes earlier than we’ve set,” Mrs. Geum said sheepishly, at which Seungmin immediately waved his hands rapidly, “It’s fine, Mrs. Geum— Let’s see, his allergic rhinitis is mild now, and the roof of his mouth is fine now unlike last month…”

Mrs. Geum replied, “Ah yes, last month shocked me when my husband brought a lot more medicine than before from the last checkup,” placing her hand on Yohan’s hair softly.

“I was worried last time too,  but fortunately, it’s looking fine now. You’re so strong, Yohan! I’m very proud of you for being so strong!” Seungmin said, pinching Yohan’s chubby cheeks over the desk.

“Does Yohan have a runny nose or itchiness anywhere this month?” Seungmin continued, looking at the mother.

“There’s no itchiness, only runny noses are the problem these days even though he doesn’t have a high fever, but it’s less frequent than last month. I think the latest medication is suitable for my son, doc.” Mrs. Geum explained to Seungmin as the latter’s hand enthusiastically wrote every bit of information in Yohan’s medical log.

“Then, I’ll be giving an allergy test for Yohan today and prescribe a slightly lesser dose of medication, and we’ll see if he could take it that better. So, Yohan, are you ready?” Seungmin smiled sweetly.

Yohan immediately buried his face in his mother’s arm, making Seungmin chuckle, “You told me you’re strong, aren’t you? Superman would be proud of you.”

In an instant, Yohan's face lit up when Seungmin wriggled a Superman toy in front of his face, looking up at his mother who was nodding her head towards the toy. Before Yohan could take it, Seungmin pulled the toy back, “I’ll give this Superman toy only to those who're brave…. are you brave, Yohannie?”

“Mummy! I want to do the test! Yohan’s a strong boy!” The little boy said, shaking his mother's arm.

After two attempts at doing the test on the child, Seungmin gave the toy to Yohan, which the boy immediately hugged tightly. “Oh! Kitty!” Yohan said, pointing to Soonie who was now walking around the office.

“His name is Soonie. Do you like cats, Yohan?” the little boy nodded his head, “Yes, but mom said their fur is going to irritate my nose, so I have a pet gecko instead. Her name is Mimi. She’s very soft and smart! I like her.”

“That’s good! Then if you become a strong boy, maybe you’ll get a nice cat like Soonie,” Seungmin smiled before addressing the child’s mother, “Mrs. Geum, I’ve sent the prescription paper to my assistant. You could get the medicines from the same place as usual,”

“Thank you so much for your help, Doctor Kim. My husband would accompany Yohan instead of me for the next checkup as usual— Yohan, say bye to Doctor Kim,” Mrs. Geum said.

“Bye Doctor Kim! I’ll see you soon with my daddy!” A loud cheerful goodbye was said by Yohan, to which Seungmin waved back cutely.

As soon as the door closed, Soonie meows loudly for Seungmin’s attention (Gimme your attention now, since human kid is gone). Seungmin immediately lifted Soonie in his arms, kissing Soonie on the head sweetly, “You’re a good boy, baby. Waiting for you bro-in-law patiently, Going to give you extra cat food tonight, promise not to tell your brothers!” Seungmin walked towards his desk with Soonie on his arm.

“Let’s go home, baby.” Seungmin grabbed his briefcase before setting Soonie down to walk towards the expensive carrier bag that Minho bought for his siblings.

Seungmin, walking down the hallway, stopped by another pediatrician's office. He bid Yang Jeongin a goodbye on his way out, wishing the other good luck for the night shift before continuing his way out. He checked his phone, only to find a text from Minho asking him if he’ll be back home in time for dinner. Seungmin sent a quick reply saying  he would and locked his phone.

Seungmin placed the carrier bag on the registration area table where Felix and Jisung worked. Chaewon, who was hanging out there, sat in between them, probably going around for gossip since this sunshine trio are the noisiest among all not that Seungmin minded. He enjoyed the loud shushes and laughter outside of his door.

“Oh, Doctor Kim. You’re going home now?” Felix stood up from his seat, finger wiggling on the net of the cat carrier, trying to get Soonie’s attention.

“Yup, Gotta catch dinner with my husband,” Seungmin smiled before saying thank you to Jisung for handing him the doctor's attendance file to sign. ‘ Maybe we should invest in punch card machines like the ones in the hospital,’ he thought .

“Ugh, to have your own personal chef at home, the food must taste so good, Doc!” Jisung moaned, thinking about all the imaginary food in his head.

“I’ve got the extra love from his cooking,” Seungmin laughed, handing the file back to Jisung’s hands.

Before Seungmin could turn his heels around and take off, Chaewon called for him, “Doc! Wait, I have something to give to you,” and went inside the storage room behind them.

Felix beamed and said, “Oh Doctor Kim, you’re gonna love this, Chaewon’s roommate just came back from Japan and now she’s got a bunch of snacks and souvenirs to give away!”

Chaewon came back with a medium-sized box and a small plastic bag, “Here, Doc! There are souvenirs in this plastic bag and this box, I’m giving this to you only, so don’t tell Doctor Yang about this!” to which Seungmin mimed zipping his mouth.

“What’s in there?” Seungmin asked curiously.

“Pudding! Freshly made premium pudding, there are like six of them here and I have five more boxes at home. Phew! You’ve mentioned before that your husband's favourite dessert to eat is pudding, so take these,” Chaewon slid the box on the table towards Seungmin.

“Are you sure I could take these? It looks...really expensive,” Seungmin said, rubbing his thumb on the soulmate mark on his wrist.

“Totally fine!” Chaewon nodded her head.

“Doc! You should go now. It's almost six in the evening, and you know how the traffic in Gangnam is after six p.m.,” Jisung said in a loud voice.

“Oh! You’re right! Thank you for the souvenirs again, Chaewon! Good luck for night shifts, everyone. I’ll see you guys in two days,” Seungmin bid his goodbyes to his co-workers before holding the carrier bag Soonie’s in on his left and the souvenirs on his right.

He placed the plastic bags down to open up the backseat of his car, then went to the passenger seat and placed Soonie there before going to his own, and starting the car, driving safely back home. His home .

──────────────────

As soon as Seungmin arrived at the apartment complex, he stepped into the elevator, pressing the button for the 32nd floor of the building. He then waited patiently with Soonie who was now looking at him.

“Hmmh baby, We’re almost there. I know you’re hungry,” Seungmin cooed at the cat, making cute noises until the elevator stopped at his destination.

Seungmin felt his soulmate mark tingle again, a familiar sign to let him know whenever Minho was near him, which is both an advantage and disadvantage to him as he couldn’t really play hide and seek with his husband with such a gift.

Seungmin typed in the password on the door lock, going in only to be welcomed with an aromatic smell of food, noisy meows, and two sets of small feet running towards the door.

Dori and Doongie sprinted their way towards Seungmin, snuggling around his legs affectionately as if they didn’t sleep on his and Minho’s king bed every night. “Hey babies!” Seungmin said, placing Soonie’s carrier down, catching the attention of the two cats wanting to see their brother after seven hours away from each other.

As soon as Seungmin took Soonie out of the carrier, the three of them butt heads playfully together near the entrance where Seungmin’s untying his shoes.

“DoongDoong, Do you perhaps know where my husband is?” Seungmin asked the cat while taking care of his shoelace.

“Your husband is here, watching you untying your shoelaces…” Minho smirked,  on the side of the wall with his arms crossed.

“Hyung!” Seungmin looked up and smiles happily, looking at the love of his life. He made  his way towards Minho before hugging him just like he did this morning before going to work, snuggling his face onto Minho’s neck.

“You’re back thirty minutes earlier than your usual,” Minho released the hug, looking up at his slightly taller partner. Seungmin pouted, “Traffic is fine today— Are you going to make me wait like this or what?”

Minho laughed, “What?” which Seungmin even poutier.

“You’re a child. How come you’re a pediatrician? A child attending to a legit child— Come here,” Minho said jokingly, puckering his lips and locking with Seungmin before pulling Seungmin’s wrist to his lips softly and kissing the soulmate mark there.

Seungmin returned the same gesture to Minho by reciprocating the kiss on his lips and continuing to kiss down on the side of his neck where Minho’s soulmate mark is.

Minho pulled Seungmin closer to him and tucked  his hair behind his ear as he looks at him with the most loving eyes, “Do you want to eat now or… spend some short time together for a while on the sofa?”

“With you. We can eat at 7:30 pm, I don’t mind….Is it that obvious I’m yearning for your love right now, hyung?” Seungmin pouted for the second time in the day.

Minho chuckled, “Kinda, but I love when you crave for my love. Really love it! The way my soulmate mark tingled when you felt that way….also, do you really choose to cuddle over kimchi fried rice and Ggorigomtang (oxtail broth)?”

Seungmin paused, looking at Minho with widened eyes, “You made Ggorigomtang today?— Wait, yes, even over kimchi fried rice and Ggorigomtang, I’ll choose you!”

Minho suppressed a wide smile, “Cute. I’m glad I’m chosen over Ggorigomtang. Even though I knew you actually kinda debated for a while there,” he jokingly slapped his husband's bicep softly, intertwined their fingers together while walking towards the sofa.

Seungmin’s hand immediately went up to cup Minho’s cheek when they sat. Minho leaned into his touch, anticipation bubbling in his stomach, silently appreciating the comfortable vibe they have.

“Can I?” Seungmin whispered against Minho's lips.

“I can’t really take it any–“Before Minho could finish his words, Seungmin launched in for a kiss, pressing his lips softly against Minho. Finally .

He kissed Minho softly and sweetly. He kissed him like he’s been yearning for this for a while. Minho’s hand gripped the collar of Seungmin’s shirt as he kissed him back with passion and sweet longing.

"God, I missed you so much", Seungmin whispered against Minho’s lips, and all he could do was kiss him back in response.

“We were only apart for seven hours,” Minho giggled into his mouth, rubbing Seungmin’s clothed arms.

Then Seungmin locked their lips together once more, so much more overpowering that  Minho started whining into his mouth at the realization of just how hard his husband was kissing him. When Seungmin pulled away, he left Minho breathless, chest rising and falling as he looked up at his husband, lips slightly parted and cheeks heating up.

“Seungmin,” Minho mumbled softly. Minho was still shy from the kiss and Seungmin was holding him tightly with a sweet gaze that Minho felt he couldn't take anymore as Minho buried his face in Seungmin's chest until….

Until Seungmin’s cold hands went under Minho’s (actually Seungmin’s on Minho) sweater and brushed against his hard muscle causing Minho to let out a yelp. “Kim Seungmin!” Minho sputtered, grabbed at his husband’s arm, and trying to remove his hand from underneath his sweater, absolutely bamboozled at Seungmin’s method to crash the romantic kiss.

“What? How couldn't my hands freeze? The air conditioner is literally freezing hyung, and it was your idea to put it up there,” Seungmin laughed.

“Idiot.”

“Your idiot.”

“You know that my dream was to become a bachelor with three cats and to devote my whole old life for them, and then you came.” Minho continued.

“And I’m glad to break that dream of yours, but you still have three cats so we could be an old gay couple devoting our lives to kittens as cute as soondoongdori,” Seungmin nosed Minho’s neck cutely.

Minho huffed, “Stop making my insults for you as a compliment.” His cheeks get puffy when he’s flustered. Seungmin internally squealed, looking at his husband fondly, nosing the back of Minho’s ear before planting a short peck there, “If I meet you again in other lifetimes even without this soulmate mark, and I go on one knee again, would you say yes…”

“What is this sappy question I’m getting,” Minho eyed Seungmin up and down.

“Hyung…” Seungmin did his best to show his grumpy face, only to look like an angry puppy that lost its ball.

“Okay okay… I mean, we do have to know each other and all those stuff— I mean, I’m not crazy enough to say yes to a stranger who’s on their knees— Okay okay I’ll stop rambling— Stop squishing my biceps, I just got out of the gym, baby!” Minho whined. “…yes, I will. I’ll say ‘yes’ during the proposal and ‘I do’ all over again during the vows. In. Our. Every. Lifetime.”

“I love you….and I’m now hungry.” Seungmin cheekily said.

Minho squished both of Seungmin's cheeks together, “Such a baby, here I am giving you the most romantic speech you‘ve ever heard from me, and your hungry stomach decides to stop it— I’ll heat the soup again while you, Doctor Kim, go feed our babies now,”

“Aye, Husband!” Seungmin stood up, leaned down and kissed Minho’s lips softly before calling out for Soondoongdori to eat at their preferred place near the cat room.

Minho sighed, a silly smile on his face as soon as Seungmin’s out of sight, “Ah god— I’m so in love with him…. Ah Kim Seungmin, the things you do to me,” Minho rubbed his face, over his stupid smile and the mark on his neck before going into the kitchen to reheat their food.

“Baby! If you’re done, come out of the cat room and help me scoop some rice!” Minho called out  from the kitchen. He heard Seungmin let out a “Coming!” from the closed room.
