Work Text:
The crisp evening breeze chills Talay’s hands as he reaches for Puen, their weekly walk through the park almost halfway complete. In an attempt to spend more time with each other while getting in some physical activity after sitting in their respective offices for hours, the pair tried to walk the trails of a near by park every Wednesday evening. As they walk, Puen animatedly explains to Talay the romance script he has been collaborating on, and how much it makes him wish to have a wedding of his own.
“It just seems so perfect, a day that I get to tell everyone we know about just how much I love you, and no one is allowed to stop me. I could spend thirty minutes alone talking about how the moles on your face make me want to sob from their beauty. The other writers on the team clearly don’t see how great of an opportunity this is for the characters to express themselves. I mean, if it was my wedding...”
Talay giggles softly, shaking his head as Puen continues to rattle on about their wedding someday while still holding his hand.
“I don’t know, are you sure you want to get married to me? It’s quite a big commitment” Talay teases.
Puen stops in his tracks, turning to grasp both of Talay’s hands while facing him in the middle of the trail, expression suddenly serious.
“Talay, my darling, nothing will ever separate us.
Neither time nor space owns the love we share.
Even when the tides rise and the Earth crumbles, and all that is left is the rubble of our fathers, I will still know without a doubt that you are the only one I will ever love for all of eternity.
I have loved you across universes, so much so that something like the fabric of our very existence is obsolete in comparison to the love I have for you.
I have loved you with a different face and a different name, I have loved you before seeing you, and I have loved you before knowing what it meant to love.
The universe brought us together not because it took pity on us but because it knew our love was something greater than it could possibly conjure on its own.
I was destined to love you.
And it is the most beautiful thing I have ever done in my life.”
His gaze bore into Talay’s, firm and unwavering as if to make sure Talay understood what he said could not be contradicted. Once it seemed like he felt Talay understood he smiled softly, reaching for Talay’s face.
“I would marry you in every lifetime, Talay. This cannot be undone.”
The tears forming in Talay’s eyes threaten to fall as he lets out a watery laugh, lifting his face to look directly at Puen.
“No one can ever say you are not a romantic.. ” He teased, before exhaling softly.
”I love you too, Puen.
You are my light and all of my stars. You are what makes color come to life, and you are what writers can only dream of when they talk about love.
It would be foolish to deny myself the pleasure of being by your side. My heart is yours, for all that is to come.”
They stayed facing each other until suddenly dissolving into peels of laughter, the adrenaline from their impromptu outbursts causing them to become giddy.
“Oh my god that was so dramatic Puen! How dare you almost make me cry on our walk!”
“Me?! What about you?! You’re the one that causes me to be like this, it’s not my fault you’re just so cute I could write entire novels about you” Puen smirks, reaching back for Talay’s hand as they continue down the path back toward their car.
“Oh please, I know you’ve just been dying to have a dramatic outburst after editing that period piece with the god awful monologue”
“Mmh… So what do you think about a spring wedding? I think we should for sure have pink accents and what are your thoughts about buttercream…”
Talay laughed, shaking his head once again while looking up at the trail ahead of him. Distantly, he thought to himself,
What a joy it is, to love and to be loved.
I would have it no other way.
