It always made him so proud to see his little knight grow up, he had just gotten him it seemed and now as he blinked he had to look up to see the face of his son. Silver had always trained diligently to be able to protect Malleus and it was slightly worrying as the young boy didn't have any friends, but once Sebek joined although their relationship wasn't the best it had put his heart at ease to see Silver having someone else to spar with. The years passed on like days greeting new people and watching them leave but it had seemed that human life was always fleeting it had just seemed shorter when there was a battle field and blood he was glad those days were behind him. While at Night Raven they had met a unordaniry child one named Yuu a human who couldn't use magic. It was the joy of his life to watch as Silver and Sebek slowly warmed up and started guarding them as though Yuu was Malleus or the next ruler of the Brair Valley but it was happy a good time. The human seemed to have an unlucky hand as they always ended up getting involved in overblots and almost dying but yet they had managed to capture the hearts of every person they met with a soft smile and kind eyes they helped many of the students and staff truely someone worth protecting. Even Malleus had taken a liking to them and went on walks with them during the night and let them take care of his tomadachi whenever he was busy. Eventually the next year came as Malleus left to go take care of the valley he left with him to make sure everything went okay Silver and Sebek stayed behind having been told to finish their education first then come back to guard Malleus.
Letters poured in from Sebek and texts from Silver everything was going great they had became closer as they worked together to keep Diasomnia in check even though there was a fight at the beginning due to Silver being dorm leader but it got sorted out. They were still hanging out with Yuu and had started branching out a bit more into talking with others outside of class they were enjoying life as they should he would read their messages every night he couldn't wait until they graduated so he could be by them again. Eventually a letter came from Silver plain and simple it asked only one thing and he was overjoyed to answer yes, Silver had asked if he could court Yuu. He saw over the entire relationship every aspect demmaned from them when he would call always delighted by the news and eventually when they came home for spring break a small silver ring took its rightful place on Yuu's finger. Everything was chaos for the next few months before Silver graduated Yuu had asked to stay until they were done with school which was promptly allowed. He made preparations for a small modest wedding which had been requested a sweet, tender, and intimate setting had been requested and was fulfilled when they kissed under the summer sky, tears were heavy that day as they celebrated the new union even Sebek had cried as he gave his speech as the best man and even though Grim had burnt some of the flowers it was perfect. Another year went by with Silver constantly being distracted he and Malleus would never bring it up but he would often mumble Yuu's name in his sleep. Eventually Yuu and Sebek Graduated and came to live with them Sebek stayed in the knights corridors while Silver and Yuu moved into their small cottage that Malleus had given as a wedding gift.
Many years went by as Yuu helped out as a maid around the castle while SIlver climbed the ranks to head knight. They had gotten a room in the castle but they refused so the room was kept for them on holidays. One day Silver woke up from a nap to see a child petting one of the deer that child was taken to the castle they had no idea who they were but they remembered where they were from though as it showed on no map they inquired with Yuu turns out the child was from the same world as Yuu eventually they named the child Mal and Silver and Yuu adopted them. The family was finally complete, holidays were bright and warm Sebek started teaching Mal some sword work whenever Silver was too busy to watch over Mal. But unfortunately good things never last long enough. An assassination attempt was made against Malleus; they failed but took Mal as hostage Silver and Sebek tore apart every town as they searched for Mal he and Malleus stayed behind to oversee the country and to comfort Yuu who hardly ever moved out of bed. Eventually Mal was found and brought home but was never the same they had become quiet and withdrawn it was found out that they had been violated the people who had taken them never saw the day of light again Silver and Sebek made sure of that. Eventually a rebellion started brewing people rose up and a civil war started. It was violent on both ends and serene towns turned into seared war zones rivers once pure ran tainted with red. We won the war but it came with a cost a heavy cost the deciding battle of the war was lead by Silver as they charged into battle heavy casualties were on both sides but then a scream tore away from the rest Sebek, Silver commanded another slightly wounded soldier to take Sebek back to camp to get healed right away as they went to go get Sebek, Silver turned back around vowing vengeance for his brother. The battle had been won and the war over Silver ran to the camp just as he ducked into the healers tent it was too late, he saw Lilia weeping holding Sebek's body as he laid stiff blood still dripping from his agape mouth. His body was brought back with them to be buried in the head knight cemetery some whispered about it but quickly stopped when they saw Silver look their way. The way back to the castle was short but even though it was supposed to be a celebration it felt like a funeral march leading them to where Sebek laid.
They arrived and horns sounded their entrance Silver first then Lillia behind him and then the rest came after, as Silver dismounted Malleus came down to greet him a smile wide on his face "where is Sebek? we must host a feast for the end of the war" he grinned. Silver saw his family Yuu and Mal come out from the great castle doors to greet him before he turned and pointed at the last item in the procession a carriage, Malleus's face dropped as his eyes widened just enough that one would miss it if not close enough he stepped back slightly before folding his arms and walking back into the castle. Yuu jumped at Silver hugging him tears flowing down their face "Im so happy your back!" they sobbed into his chest, Silver looked around at the drowned out noise of soldiers meeting their families again reuniting during the war and the families that stood off to the side looking for their kids that they would never see again. Tears caught in Silver's eyes as he saw Sebek's sister standing off to the side waiting with a smile and a basket filled with home baked food salmon carpaccio, Sebek's favorite food. Yuu must have seen and looked at her as well "oh there is Sebek's sister oh look what she brought he'll be so happy when he sees her" Yuu smiled a small tug at his uniform told him that Mal needed his attention he kneeled down putting on a smile "And how have you been my little knight?" Mal stared up at him with tears in their eyes " where is uncle Seby? I made him a drawing" they paused. "Does he not want to see me anymore?" They burst into tears as Yuu went to hold them. Silver stayed silent, eyes cast towards a battlefield, a healer's tent and a night they couldn't see. Yuu looked up after Mal calmed down and looked deep into Silver's eyes "Silver? Honey, where is Sebek?". Silver looked down at Yuu and Mal and pointed towards the carriage which was now being opened and a body was coming out. Yuu's eyes widened as tears pricked at their eyes they picked up Mal cast a look at the carriage seeing Sebek's body being carried into the garden and ran inside the castle. The feast came and Sebek's sister was told she could stay the night if she wanted to be there for the funeral but she refused she asked instead to stay with his body during the night and to leave in the morning she didn't eat at the feast she left after talking to Malleus and Lilia she exited with two guards guiding her to her brother's corpse.
The atmosphere was bright and joyous except for the little table reserved for Malleus and his family Sebek's seat left empty. Mal had puffy eyes as they refused to eat anything placed in front of them until they were told why Sebek wasn't with them anymore. "Dad, where did Seby go? Why didn't he take me with him?" Tears started to spill again as Yuu excused themselves to go comfort Mal they never came back. Lilia and Malleus were pulled away to do some political arrangements with the representatives from the neighboring kingdoms. Silver was left at the table alone and even though the banquet hall had never been so full of life Silver had never felt so alone. The funeral was held the next day it was small and intimate and for the first time in years Silver had skipped morning training. Lillia stood off to the side choking back his tears as Malleus knelt and placed down a single white rose and even though it was only a glance Silver saw a single tear drop on the newly disturbed dirt. Malleus stood and left Lilia put a garland of morning glories leaning against the headstone and then followed Malleus out. Yuu put a flower crown on top of the headstone and vowed to replace it every week and left. Silver took out a small cloth and unwrapped it pulling out a brand new gold badge 'Sebek Zigbolt Head Knight' and placed it leaning on the tombstone in front of Malleus's rose. Leaning back he ushered Mal forward, as they came shakily small hands gripping a drawing Silver put a hand on their shoulder as Mal looked up at him he gave a reassuring smile and squeezed their shoulder before letting go as they knelt down leaning the drawing up against the headstone right next to the gold badge they leaned putting their forehead to the headstone and softly whispered " Why didn't you tell me you were leaving uncle Seby?". Then they stood up and hugged Silver tightly, Silver picked them up holding them close "Let's go for now okay? we can come say hi another day I think your uncle would like that" and that's how they left but not before Silver took one more glance the white rose the flower crown the garland and the badge though they all were made with the best materials the small piece of paper with messy crayon drawings of a child holding hands with a man with horns holding the hand of a man with spiky hair in green on the left and a man with purple eyes holding the hand of their spouse on the right and an man floating above them with pink and black hair and at the top barely legible said 'my family' and that was the best one. And that's how they left it but he would never be lonely for after all they would be back tomorrow.
