“I think Yoongi is absolutely in love with me,” says Jin. They’re at their usual Saturday night bar, five or six or ten drinks in, and Jin isn’t drunk, no not even a little bit, but he’s been holding it in for hours and hey, don’t blame a guy for finding the need to overshare with his best friends.
“Yes, and?” says Jimin, slamming down a tequila shot like it’s water. “Water is transparent. Grass is green. Sky’s also blue.”
“Yes,” agrees Taehyung, clapping his hands happily. “What took you so long!?”
“The sky is black now. It’s night time!” says Jungkook, sticking out his tongue at Jimin. “Jimin is stupid.” Jimin simply delivers a punch to his shoulder.
Jin groans. “Not the point. The point is, my birthday is coming up in a week…”
“Ah, Taejincember,” says Taehyung wistfully. He holds up a hand for a high five, which Jin gleefully accepts.
“...And Yoongi’s been ordering a lot of things online. There’s like a box or two everyday! He doesn’t do this very often…”
“Okay…” says Jimin, nodding in encouragement.
“Right,” says Jungkook.
“...In conclusion, I think he’s gonna give me, like, so many, many presents and confess that he loves me! What should I do?”
The three baby idiots gawk at Jin in astonishment.
Jimin is the first to break. “Christmas is coming!” he yelps, eyes growing very large. “What if he’s just Christmas shopping in general, for like, everyone?”
Jin scoffs, slapping Jungkook on the back, nearly knocking down his glass of whiskey on the rocks in his haste. Might as well chug it all done. It tastes amazing, but it’d be better if Yoongi was here to support him. Oh well, maybe he’ll be here next time. “Normally he shows me his shopping haul but this time round he’s been super secretive about those boxes… He carries them all to his room, and mind you, some of them seem pretty heavy, and he looks sooooo cute waddling like a penguin with all the boxes. The point is, he doesn’t say a word about them! So… ”
“He’s so a hundred percent in love with you!” Taehyung screeches, clapping his hands so hard it must hurt. He gets it, so Jin simply high fives him again. “He’s courting you! Congratulations!”
Jimin’s expression remains slightly skeptical, but he says, “Cheers!”
“Cheers to that!” agrees Jungkook, smiling brightly as he raises his glass. “You know what? You should just tell him you love him too!”
Jin nods, raising his empty glass. “Yes! I will! Here’s to Yoongi becoming my boyfriend real soon!”
They clink their glasses, and Jin remembers nothing of the night after that.

The truth is, Jin has been a little in love with Yoongi since they first met ten years ago. Jungkook’s friend slash crush (now long term boyfriend) Namjoon introduced them when Jin was looking for a roommate. And Yoongi was a godsend. Quiet, considerate, clean, a good cook, and just… so cool and cute in every single possible way. Their roommating hours are spent either eating, drinking, and talking for hours on end, or sitting next to each other in silence as they occupy themselves with their phones. It’s the most perfect relationship that Jin’s ever had. Well, maybe it’ll only be enhanced when Yoongi finally asks him out on his birthday. Jin simply cannot wait.
“Oh, you’re home,” says Yoongi, sitting at the couch with a glass of whiskey like he usually does. Being the cool genius producer he is, he tends to work from home while Jin’s slaving his day away in corporate hell. “I ordered mulhwe for dinner, it’ll be here any minute now. My treat this time, okay? No need to cook tonight.”
He’s dressed in the scruffiest t-shirt and overworn gray sweats, and somehow still manages to look cuter than ever. Jin has to try to not coo and pinch his slightly-tinted cheeks. “Thanks, Yoongichi… So. How was your day? Anything you would like to share?” he says instead, dropping himself on the couch next to Yoongi. His tie is stifling, and Yoongi, ever so observant and considerate, reaches his hands out to yank it off for him.
It shouldn’t be this hot. Yoongi shouldn’t be this hot. And yet he is . “Erm, not really? Well, I did send off a track to Namjoon today for his input…”
“Oh, nice! Good job! Mind if I listen to it?” says Jin.
Yoongi scratches the tip of his ear as he looks away from Jin. Interesting. “Umm, no…”
Jin puts on his sweetest pout. “But why? Yoongiyah, you always let me listen to your music!” A gasp slips out of his mouth. “Is it for a super secret top celebrity?”
“No…”
“Is there, like, an NDA or something?” Jin tries again.
“No…”
“Then why?”
Yoongi shrugs. “It’s a really rough draft. Maybe in a few days. When it’s ready.”
“Okay.” Jin is sure the smile on his face is super cheesy, but he doesn’t try to hide it. A song? Mayhaps… for Jin? A confession song? For his birthday! That’s so sweet. Yoongi could be amazing like that. “I’m sure it’s going to be amazing! Can’t wait to listen!”
Yoongi’s gummy smile is so blinding that Jin forgets to dig any deeper.

Yoongi is in the bathroom when Jin gets home from work. It’s not like Jin particularly enjoys snooping around, but Yoongi’s laptop just so happens to be on the coffee table, with approximately ten browser tabs open. About five tabs are music production related. One is on Naver maps. And, voila, four tabs are florist websites.
Aha! It’s the strongest indication by far that Jin hasn’t been making it all up in his head! He has to cover his mouth to muffle his squeal of delight. Why else would Yoongi be looking up floral arrangements?
Did he… need some help though? It would suck if he was spending hours and hours on all these beautiful websites, struggling to choose the best bouquet for Jin’s birthday.
“You won’t go wrong with pink roses!” Jin blurts, the moment Yoongi steps out of the communal bathroom. “Pink’s a great color! Red too!”
“Huh? Oh, you saw that…” Yoongi looks surprised for a split second, but seems otherwise unfazed. So. Cool. “Erm, thanks, hyung.”
When they attempt to watch a movie together later that night, Jin makes the special effort to wrap his arm around Yoongi’s waist. Yoongi doesn’t mind. In fact, he’s so comfortable that he falls asleep on Seokjin’s shoulder in less than fifteen minutes, and Jin has to carry him to his bedroom and tuck him into bed. The boxes from the days before are nowhere to be found, but maybe they’re hidden in Yoongi’s wardrobe or something. Jin does like a guy with excellent organizational skills.
Jin screams into his pillow for five whole minutes before bed. A boyfriend! In three days!

Just… sue Kim Seokjin, okay?
Yoongi was out when Jin entered their apartment, visiting his mother’s friend who had just been discharged from the hospital. (Isn’t he the kindest soul?) And Jin was minding his own business, catching up on Netflix in the living room when the doorbell rang. At the door is a suave-looking man in a suit, holding a classy-looking orange box with a blue ribbon that reads Louis Vuitton.
“Min Yoongi-sshi?” says the man.
“He’s not at home,” says Jin. “But I can sign off on it for him.”
Left alone with the beautiful box, Jin considers three important points:
- He’s proficient at untying and tying ribbons.
- He’s never broken into a Louis Vuitton box before, but it doesn’t seem too difficult to do so.
- Yoongi wouldn’t even get mad at him. He’s about to confess, for fuck’s sake!
It’s a no-brainer. Jin’s heart feels like it’s going to explode, but thankfully his fingers are deft enough and he unwraps the box in no time.
Jin gasps, clutching at his chest as he takes in what’s in the box. A leash, with the LV monogram printed all over it.
He isn’t into that sort of thing - petplay is more up Jimin and Taehyung’s alley - but if that’s what Yoongi so desires, he suppose he’s willing to explore his kinkier side. He does enjoy the feeling of nearly choking while eating, so… maybe?
Tomorrow can’t come soon enough.

When Jin arrives at his birthday dinner, nobody but Yoongi is there.
He’s seated at a table for two, sipping on a glass of red wine, puffy cheeks glowing in the dim candlelight. Did he tell all their friends to fuck off or something? Tonight was supposed to be a group dinner, but Jin is more than happy to have a date with Yoongi instead. How romantic! One day, they’ll tell all their kids and grandkids that they got together on Jin’s birthday!
“Yoongiyah…~” says Jin, smiling as he seats himself across Yoongi. “Yes. My answer is yes.”
“Hyung, you’re here!” says Yoongi. God, he’s so handsome tonight. Man buns and bourgeois tuxedos suit him to a T. “Happy Birthday! But…” He blinks incredulously at Jin. “What are you saying yes to?”
“Your confession, silly,” says Jin.
Yoongi coughs, eyes widening in shock. “What?”
Jin knows his smile is practically splitting his face in half. “Yoongiyah, I know what you’ve been up to. And I accept.”
“W-What exactly are you accepting?” asks Yoongi, taking in a large mouth of wine.
“Oh god, you’re really gonna make me say it all out?” says Jin. “Okay, I can do that. The boxes and boxes of presents! The secret love song you wrote for me! The pink roses, are they coming later?!! The leash, I’ll try whatever you want but please be patient and gentle with me, at least at first!”
“...What?” Yoongi still looks utterly confused.
“And tonight! I love that this is our first date! Can’t believe you pulled all of this off! Yoongiyah, you’re very sweet and thoughtful, and I’ve always loved that about you. So I accept,” Jin adds cheerily, taking the deepest breath of his life. “I’ll be your boyfriend, Yoongiyah. And I love you too.”
Yoongi promptly starts choking on his wine, and Jin jumps out of his seat to pat his back.
“Sirs? Are you okay?” says a waiter who’s stopped at their table. How rude, interrupting their grand confession moment like that.
“I’m good,” says Yoongi, staring at everywhere and anywhere but Jin. “I think…”
“Great, your table’s ready, by the way,” the waiter says, pointing to an empty table near them, set for seven. What? “Sorry for the wait. If you’ll just follow me…”
Jin chooses the seat furthest from Yoongi at their new (correct!) table. Hoseok arrives as soon as they sit down, and Namjoon, Jimin, Taehyung, and Jungkook follow soon after. Jin finishes a bottle of red wine by himself before dinner is served. He doesn’t look in Yoongi’s direction for the rest of the evening, not even when they’re singing him Happy Birthday and he’s blowing thirty fucking candles out.

“Hyung, you know… I love you right?” says Yoongi. “But actually…”
They’re three feet apart on their living room couch. When they’d gotten home from dinner, Yoongi wordlessly walked into their kitchen and brought out a bottle of whiskey and two glasses of ice. They’d drank together in silence for a solid thirty minutes, before Yoongi broke the silence with those dreaded words.
“That’s nice,” interrupts Jin, gazing upon a speck of dirt on the floor instead of Yoongi. Did their marble tiles always look so pretty? He’d never noticed before. “Listen, you don’t have to do this, you know? I know I was overthinking everything. You don’t like me that way, and that’s okay. Let’s just forget about it, okay? Hyung will be fine.”
Yoongi groans in exasperation. “Hyung, are you listening? I love you.”
“As a housemate, as a friend,” says Jin. Maybe he should vacuum the floor, right now! Fucking dust bunnies. “I know, I get it. Don’t rub it in. I’m thirty years old but I’m still stupid. I get it!”
“God…!” Yoongi groans louder. “I’ll elaborate then. Spell it out for you, since you’re clearly not listening. I love you too, and I want to be your boyfriend.”
“But… tonight… the presents… the song? No roses… The leash?!!” Jin sputters, baffled. He should be exhilarated, but things are still not making sense.
“The presents are for my family’s big Christmas party, I’m visiting them in three weeks, remember?” Yoongi starts to explain.
“But you always show me your shopping!” says Jin.
“I was organizing them, hyung. I would have shown you at some point,” says Yoongi. “And my song’s really for work. It’s far from ready at this point, and I get self conscious about my music sometimes. I truly was planning to share it with you later.”
“Oh…”
“Yeah, the flowers were for my mother’s friend. I met her yesterday, remember? My mom told me to prepare something nice for her since she just recovered from surgery.”
“That’s sweet…” says Jin, feeling dumber by the second. “Is she doing okay?”
Yoongi nods. “She’s doing great! The leash is for Holly,” he continues. “LV has a fucking pet assessory collection. Taehyung suggested it. Said Yeontan has one. Though, now that I think about it…” Yoongi clears his throat, and Jin knows they’re both thinking of a very specific video that Jimin and Taehyung once “accidentally” shared in their group chat. “And… I’m not really into petplay, though if you’re somewhat interested, then maybe…”
Jin offers a cautious smile and nod. Yoongi offers him a thumbs up. They look away. (Typical.)
“And dinner, well , I suppose you’ve guessed by now. Our table for seven wasn’t ready, and I was very early, so they offered me a smaller table and took my drink order in advance.”
“Figured,” says Jin. Now what? “So…”
“So…” echoes Yoongi. “Now what?”
“You love me…” says Jin. “You weren’t exactly planning to confess today, but you… love me?”
“Never thought I had a chance,” whispers Yoongi. He’s moving closer, and soon their lips are inches apart from each other’s. “You’re beautiful inside and out. It’s intimidating, how perfect of a human being you are. You take care of me, in so many little ways. I love how you cook for me, fret over my general well-being, and carry me to bed when I fall asleep on the couch. You’re my favorite person, the only one I could see myself living with in the long run, and I’ve known Kim Namjoon for thirteen fucking years.”
“Don’t fucking talk about Kim Namjoon when I’m about to kiss you,” says Jin, heart swelling with love, as he smiles against Yoongi’s stupid grin.
Kissing Yoongi is way better than anything Jin could have ever dreamed of.
