It was a Saturday, right after the last football game of the season and their school had won the grand championship. It was a huge victory for the school and a few of students that were interviewed were featured on the local news channel.
That night, after the game, Hanni ended up going home with Minji to celebrate. They did the usual, eat pizza, go for a walk, and watch a funny romcom. After all was said and done, they both had their share of celebrating and the lights had died down in Minji’s room. It was just the two of them, alone with their thoughts.
At that moment, they were both laying beside each other in the pitch black, but for some reason the thought in the back of Hanni’s mind just would not go away.
I want to kiss her, Hanni thought. As the silence seemed to drag on, that thought gets louder and louder, and suddenly, out of nowhere, she heard a voice.
“Hey Hanni? ” the voice says, sounding somewhat melancholic. It took her a second to register that it’s wasn’t in her head… it was Minji. She would answer in an almost concerned tone.
“Yeah, what’s up?” Hanni asks, and stays silent for a moment.
“Is it bad that I…I don’t know. Maybe want to…kiss you right now…? I mean, I’ve been thinking about it for some time.”
Hanni pauses. Did she hear what she thought she just heard? I mean… it’s Minji- she’s got a boyfriend after all. She stays silent for a moment.
“That’s not a bad thought at all” Hanni whispers. After a few moments of quiet, Hanni feels her move slightly in the bed and the touch of Minji’s fingertips laying softly on her cheek which was followed by her palm. Suddenly, all though she couldn’t see, she could feel Minji over her. Her face, only inches away from Hanni’s, with tension so thick you could cut it with a knife. There was only inches between Minji’s lips and hers.
She leans and kisses Hanni, so elegantly yet passionately and she can’t help but squirm underneath her, like it almost hurts to do so, forbidden, yet everything about it feels so right.
After that, the two stay silent for a while. Eventually they both fall asleep. Hanni wakes up to a cold autumn breeze coming through her open window in the empty house and it hits her chillingly in the face. Suddenly, she finds herself remembering the events of the previous night, and staring at the wall next to her, as a soft sigh escapes her lips. Suddenly, she felt a tight squeeze of soft, yet secure arms wrapped around her. The soft, yet secure arms of a one, Minji.
“Hanni,” she hears a soft voice whisper. “You’re so warm.”
A soft smile graces her face as Minji gently strokes her arm.
Waking up in her arms was the best thing ever. Maybe everything will end up alright after all.
