Chapter 1: A new student

Chapter Text

Ever since Daki could remember, he was confined in the walls of his home; each day he would spend inside his room.

His mother never let him out, he was home schooled, and he didn't question it. That's how it always was, he knew his mother as something spiritual, she knew everything and she would give it to him if he worshiped her.

He loved his mother, even if she was cold towards him, he convinced himself that's how loved worked. It was more take than give.

However, finally, she gifted him something that he never knew he would be given.

A chance to go to school, a chance to finally step outside. Freedom.

"How about it?" His mother asked him, while fixing his long red hair as he sat in front of the mirror. He was getting it braided

"...I'm not sure..but I'll think about it. Thank you mama." He looked towards his hands in his lap, he was nervous, a chance for his own choices and actions would happen if he accepted. He was 14 years old at this point. He knew very little about the outside world compared to other his age, not like he knew this.

"...it'll be useful, trust me.' Her voice was cold again. This wasn't a choice anymore. She tugged his hair as he continued to sit down and let her braid it.

"Okay mama..I'll go " He didn't let his neutral smile go, even if the tugging hurt, it would make it worse.

The moment went back into silence.

His hair was put into a big braid, even if he hated braids, he would always let it happen. It always felt wrong to him, but he was too afraid to say anything that would upset his mother.

Or maybe he just hated himself..

-------

"Oh Daki, aren't you interested in where you'll be going?" His mother asked him again, regaining his attention.

He was sitting on the floor of his plain room, finishing up some work his mother put him up to do; a single small mattress on the floor, a small book shelf with a few books displayed, and the windows of his room were boarded up.

"Where to?"

"Aldera Junior High, maybe you'll make good grades."

"...maybe."

"Right. Maybe."

There was a beat of silence, before he decided to asked something.

"What's it like…outside?"

"It'll be scary at first. You'll just have to get used to it Daki. Like how you always have."

She stepped out of his room, shutting the door behind her, locking it.

Daki was nervous now. This was new, too new.

Freedom that he would have soon, was overwhelming, he wouldn't be a slave anymore but was it worth it? He barely knew himself, and now there were going to be plenty of people to judge him for it; at least, that's what he thought.

He laid down on the ground, he looked up at the ceiling of his room. It was adorned with glow in the dark stars. The only sky he knew of, and soon he would finally see it for himself. He hoped it was as pretty as he imagined it being.

Maybe that's all he would ask for.

—-----

Aftera couple of weeks passed by, apparently from what his mother told him, he was registered and tomorrow he would be transferred in. He received his uniform, he hadn't received any new pair of clothes in a long time.

It seemed a lot nicer than the other stuff he had, he was grateful.

He felt himself smile as he held the uniform in his hands and held it tightly to himself.

His dimly lit room was all the comfort he would have now when he would get back from school tomorrow, and the rest of the school year.

He would get back from school, clean the house and once the chores were done he would stay up to do his homework.

He would also walk back to school, his mother told him it wasn't far away.

He would look at the flowers, grass, trees, sky and buildings while on the path to school. It would be like admiring a painting, looking at all the little details at a mundane day for anyone else.

But it was special to him.

—-----

Izuku had eventually made it to school, finally without being harassed by Bakugou before he made it to the entrance. It was small but, compared to however the rest of the day was going to pan out. That might be the best part of it.

He sat at his desk and pulled out his vol 14 hero notebook, adding on a few details to a few heroes. He had researched about them, making sure he got it right or else he'd have an outdated hero notebook.

Eventually though, class began, and there was something new. He perked up his head from his notebook and listened.

"Class we have a new student, welcome them." His teacher said as he motioned over to a new student. Long red hair, orange and yellow eyes and tan skin.

"My name is Daki Kokonomi, it's nice to meet you all.." the new student said, then being told to sit nearby him. Izuku's interest was peaked, he wondered what his quirk was, where he came from, and his hobbies.

To Izuku, this was a chance to make a friend, someone who didn't know about him and how everyone disliked him.

Someone who could understand. Someone who was just as lonely as him right now.
