Work Text:
Marco had already decided to stay in the cozy of his home all day. That's what he envisioned his weekend to be, so when someone rang his doorbell at 5 in the morning when he had just woke up, Marco already felt his energy drained out of his whole body.
Not at his damn weekend, no.
Opening the door, he was met by the beaming smile adorned with the freckles scattered around Ace's cheeks, the man in question looking so energetic at the crack of dawn while standing outside of Marco's doorstep.
"Good morning, Marco! Rise and shine my gorgeous buddy!" Ace greeted him with a hearty laugh that made him more attractive. Marco thought it should be illegal.
The older man heaved a sigh as he stepped on the side to let Ace in. "Morning Ace-yoi. What makes you come here at this hour?" His eyes followed the younger guy who dragged himself to his couch with raised eyebrow.
His best friend made himself at home, looking so comfortable after flopping himself on his couch. He looked at Marco innocently and grinned like he thought of something really fun and he already knew it wasn't good, at least on his part. "C'mon, Marco! Get dressed now, we're going somewhere fun." Ace yelled, tone ordering yet not hostile at the same time. Like making commands is just as natural as breathing for him. He's always been like that, someone who's bound to take charge. A leader in his own right.
Looking at the firecracker, he already knows it's a losing game. There's no way out of this. Cursing under his breath, a long sigh escaped his lips. "Alright, wait here-yoi. Let me at least get dressed, yeah?"
Marco's life seems like a series of Ace barging in and dragging him to who knows where. It's always him being left in the dark and this young man not caring enough to explain. Ever since they were kids, this fiery guy who always exudes life like he's made for it— the adventures, the thrills, all the unexpected and no bound reality Marco wouldn't have come to know had the man never come waltzing in his life.
When he came out of his room, Ace immediately dragged him out of his apartment. "Let's go! Ad-ven-ture! Woohoooo!"
Marco couldn't even get mad when his best friend's laughter filled the quietness of his neighborhood. The young man is running while pulling his hand, leaving him no choice but to run with him.
The chilly morning breeze hitting their faces, a blur of scenery as they continue to dash through the block, Marco feels Ace adjusting his hand to wrap securely around his own. It feels liberating. The silence of the morning left only the sounds of nature on their tail. Birds singing, trees gently rustling, sounds of their footsteps hitting the road, stars still visible in the sky.
It feels as if they are running away from the world that never stopped being noisy. Leaving behind the chaos and uncertainties, the only thing that matters in Marco's world right now is the figure of the man that holds his heart in front of him. As if Ace heard the whispers of his deepest desire, he turned his body around and faced Marco and beamed.
"Isn't it so fun, Mar?! Let's do this more often!"
Oh, Marco's heart dropped... and skipped for a moment, then melted.
He threw Ace a smile of his own, as he heard himself respond. "Sure, whenever and wherever." That only seemed to fuel the young man as he literally jumped in glee.
When they stopped running, Marco didn't realize that they had gone so far from his apartment. A field of daisies greeted him, the view was so majestic that he couldn't help but stare in awe.
"It's beautiful," Marco whispered.
"You're beautiful," Ace responded.
Marco whipped his head to his right upon hearing that. Ace's voice is so soft, it is far different from his usual compliments. His cheeks heated up seeing the firecracker's soft expression, like he was staring at the most cherished treasure in this world.
And to Ace, he definitely is.
The wind blew and something entered his eyes, making Marco close them. When he peeked one open while he rubbed the other, gentle hands captured his own and he stopped. "Let me see?"
He let Ace cup the side of his face while taking a closer look at his eyes. It's itching, so it makes him blink continuously. After awhile, the debris flushed out of it, he blinked a few more times before composing himself.
"Are you okay?" Marco nodded to the question. Looking up at his best friend to respond. "Yeah, something just got in my eyes."
Marco looked at the vast field again, noticing the sky changing color. Looking back at Ace, he smiled. "Thank you for taking me here, it's wonderful."
Ace smiled mischievously and responded. "I'll go with you anywhere, you know that." His voice might sound playful but Marco knows, his words are genuine.
"Yeah, cause you'll hunt me down just to drag me wherever." A good-humored quipped from Marco, that made Ace chortle. "Of course! You know I won't let go of you, you're bound to me!"
"Yeah, sure. I'm bound to you, whatever." He tried to be cheeky, but failed as he joined his friend who was doubling over in laughter. When they calmed down, the younger man stared at his friend lovingly.
"Hey, I'm serious! I won't let go of your hand, yeah? I've got you, Marco!"
Marco's chest warmed upon hearing the sincerity of his words. He intertwined his fingers with Ace's and pulled him and dashed to the field, chasing the daybreak.
"Oho? Then don't ever let go of it now, Ace!" Marco's majestic laughter rang through Ace's ear, who successfully pulled out an affectionate smile from him.
Ace thought he'd do everything just to hear it over and over again.
