Day 1- Warm Drinks
“So you wanna go to shellbucks…and get a latte for a picture?” Ren tilted his head at Kira.
She nodded. “I’ll be putting the photo on my shellfie. And you’ll be my photographer.”
“I never agreed to that Keers…”
“Well I've just decided, also it's not any latte. It's a pumpkin spice latte.” She said,
“Yeah, of course it is. Can you even drink it afterwards?” He looked at her strangely.
She blinked at him and shrugged. “Maybe…?”
“Yeah. It's not really wise to dip your circuit boards in pumpkin spice.”
“I can't give it to you though.” She rolled her eyes.
“Why not?” He tilted his head.
“You’ll burn yourself, you don't cool anything down at all.”
They stared at each other for a few seconds in silence.
…
“Touche, we’ll split it then. They musta built in some way for you to drink.” He mumbled the last part. As he opened the small shop's door, a small golden bell rang signaling their arrival. She nodded at him and went in. He smirked, then followed behind her, he confidently walked up to the counter, “I'll take 1 pumpkin spice latte for me and my gal.” Ren said, leaning over onto the counter.
The crustacean behind the counter squinted at him. “So 2 lattes?”
“No, no just one. We’ll share a small.” He smiled at the crab.
“...You sure you don't want a large one or even a medium one?” The employee slurred.
“Look,a small singular pumpkin spice latte. Is that so much to ask my good sir.”
“But you said you were sharing it with your friend. Why would you get a small.”
“Crab cakes listen-” Ren started off, Kira face palmed tugged him back using his arm and replaced his spot.
“I'm so sorry for how my friend was going to start off that sentence but we truly do just need one small pumpkin spice, I don't know how i'd like it so we agreed upon him drinking it if I didn't like it.” She gave a small smile to the crab.
“$1.99 then.” The crab reached out a claw for the money, in which Kira gently placed it into his claw. “Here’s your receipt, it'll be done in at least 2 minutes.” The crab put the money in the cash register, hopped off the stool he was standing on to reach the counter and went to make the latte.
Kira turned around and glared at Ren, “You can't be racist just because something isn't going your way Ren.” She whispered to him.
“He was being a jerk-” He tried to whine only to be shut down by her hawk stare. “You’ll say sorry, okay.”
“I didn't even finish my sentence-”
“You’ll be saying sorry.” She exhaled through her nose then turned back to the counter. Ren brushed up against her shoulder.
“Okay Okay I will, but only because it was you who said it.” He grumbled.
“I love you too Ren.” She teased.
“Humpfh-” He looked away from her.
The crab came back a few minutes later, hopped onto the stool and handed Kira to the drink. “Thank you for coming to shellbucks, have a nice day.” He said.
Kira nodded, then looked to Ren.
He sighed, “Hey I'm sorry that I called you crab cakes”
The crab blinked. “Apology accepted.”
“Alright um, have a nice day then.” Ren silently turned around and walked out the door, Kira followed moments after with pep in her step, skipping along, she handed Ren her phone.
“Hey! Careful with that, if you're gonna start skipping around don't do it with a hot drink!” He took her phone as she passed him.
She went towards a tree with falling yellow and orange leaves, then spun around facing Ren. “Make sure to add filter number 1 to the photos.” She said, then used both her hands to hold the drink.
Ren sighed once more, “Keers, you don't need filters.” He smiled as he turned on the camera. “I think everyone will love your pictures without the filter, I'll make sure of it.”
She stared at him frowning. “Ren. Without it I look so pale and, my tentacles look so dull and-”
Ren furrowed his eyebrows “Stop it. Look Kira, trust me. You’ll look fine ”
She avoided eye contact.
“Now are we going to take your Shellfie pictures or what?”
“...Fine.” She said.
-The next day-
Kira was sat on the couch scrolling through the photos of yesterday. She dreaded checking Shelffie. “ Nice line freak. Your tentacles look dead! Your eyes are discolored!” Floods of potential criticisms engulfed her brain.
“Is this pumpkin spice latte still good?” Ren called out one hand on the open fridge door. She looked up from her phone and nodded. “Sweet.” He popped it into the microwave. “Also just check the dang Shelffie already.”
Kira rolled her eyes but took his advice. Her eyes lit up “A thousand likes!? That's more than I've ever gotten on my account! How was Ren right?” She shouted.
Ren smirked over at her. “Hey Kira, you're saying your internal dialogue aloud again.” He took out the pumpkin spice latte, walked over and sat next to her.
She sprung at him and hugged him tightly. “Thank you so much Ren!” She nuzzled his cheek.
“Heh no problem” He placed the drink down on the coffee table and hugged her back. “Maybe next time don't hug me while I have a hot drink in my hands but I appreciate it nonetheless.” After the hug broke, Ren spoke. “So wanna share?” He held the drink up.
She looked at her over 1,200 notifications on her phone then to Ren. She hesitated for a moment then turned off her phone and sat it down. “Shellfie can wait.” She thought.
“Of course!” She smiled at him.
