Minjeong doesn’t ever remember having a relatively good memory at Camp Half Blood.
She’s simply 21, still the only Poseidon child, and a senior counselor. But unlike the counselors that were from the past, Minjeong’s constantly working her butt off. She’s always training, secluding herself from the others and nearly exhausting herself from the crack of dawn to the depths of night.
Camp isn’t like the old wooden camp from before. It’s more technology than ever and she has yet to fathom how demigods were able to survive with technology all around them. She barely pays attention when Yizhuo explains the reason being that the barrier around them has grown larger and more stronger than ever. Supposedly, the signals with technology toward the monsters are still as weak as they used to be. It doesn’t mean it still doesn’t attract monsters, they just have less restrictions.
Camp Half Blood had been renovated, the old camp now looking like a futuristic version of Mount Olympus. Mr. D was the only reason why it ended up looking anywhere similar to Olympus, as he wanted to pretend like he had earned back his spot in Olympus.
While the camp is supposed to be safe, Minjeong has been having nightmares, blurry ones that she fails to decipher everytime she wakes up drenched in sweat. Luckily for her, the Poseidon cabin is still empty, Minjeong’s things decorating the cabin. In the end, she always feels better when the wind from outside works to cool her body temperature. But sometimes, it’s not enough to calm her anxious mind.
When Kim Minjeong wakes up on the wrong side of bed, everyone feels the result of it. For the past weeks, the raven has busted nearly every sprinkler outside without trying. Sometimes, she couldn’t control it, hence, the broken toilets, the concerning swirl forming in the pond and the slight clouds rumbling in the air.
As she watches the many rocks skip across the pond, Minjeong sighs in frustration, poking her tongue into her cheek. In this point of her life, she isn’t sure what to do. And it always felt like that. She feels like she has to fight for her life just to survive.
In the water, she sees movement, bright blonde hair glowing in the reflection. She doesn’t have to look back to figure out who it is, a sweet scent already clouding her mind and settling her into a state of peace. The raven only huffs lowly, continuing to throw a rock at the pond and watching it skip.
“I don’t need closure, I know Chiron sent you. You can tell him that I just need time to myself.” Minjeong inspects another rock, eyeing the water in front of her. She’s trying to figure out the angle she’ll need to throw the rock in order for it to skip for longer while relatively ignoring the person behind her.
Her rival bends down to sit on the grass, leaving a gap between them. Minjeong thinks it’s for the best, a safe bridge to walk across if they really need it. She has been scared to even look one feet past it for years.
Although, when a shoulder presses against her, and she doesn’t have it in her to push the girl away, seemingly relaxing with the pressure against her. It never seems to wrap around her head how the Athena daughter manages to make her feel as peaceful as she is when she’s near the sea.
Blonde hair tickles Minjeong’s neck, the raven coming to find out that Jimin’s hair has grown much longer than she had remembered. “I’m not here to give you that. I know you, the last thing you’d want is to be pitied. But, I don’t know how, but I’ve been having nightmares—about losing you.” Jimin lifts her head, and Minjeong meets her dark gray eyes that are nearly brimming with tears.
It’s been years she since joined camp at 16, when she was just a teenager. There’s not much difference, 21 year old Minjeong still being in love with the camp’s 22 year old princess. In those years, she’s managed to keep a secret long enough. Like everything else in the world, she doesn’t know where she stands in terms of their relationship—If they even have one.
She does know that their relationship is good enough for them to lean on eachother when they need to. The raven more reluctant to do so most of the time but something about the Athena daughter makes it so easy to rely on her. She’s the only one who’s been able to get Minjeong to come out of her shell.
So hearing that Jimin is afraid to lose her, breaks her heart to no end. She still cares for Jimin, would tear the depths of the earth for her. Hearing that she has nightmares also turns the gears in her head.
Minjeong swallows, fragments of the nightmares she’s been having finally revealing itself clear. “You’ve been having nightmares too? I couldn’t sleep for days because I wake up breathing hard but not remembering what happened in my nightmare. Just that it was….. terrifying.” She turns her head from Jimin’s gaze, feeling her heart pick up its pace for whatever reason.
Wiping at her eyes, the blonde gathers herself. “I think we might have to tell Chiron. It could be a sign.” Jimin suggests lowly. There’s slight hesitation in her voice that prompts the Poseidon daughter to turn her body, reaching over to cup the blonde’s cheek and bring the older closer.
Unlike when they were younger, Minjeong’s grown a bit taller, no longer the small tiny girl from before. Her arms have grown a bit more muscular and dark hair now a little shorter, stopping just at her shoulder. Her bangs cover her eyes slightly but it never stops Jimin from reaching up to brush them from her eyes because she was supposedly intrigued by her eyes.
Comforting someone had never been her strong suit. She still tries, because she feels like she needs to. She wants to reassure the blonde. “You’re not going to lose me and I’m not going to let anything happen to us, alright?” She lifts her thumb to wipe at the tear that drifts down the blonde’s cheek, Jimin’s face slightly red from quietly sobbing.
Jimin slowly nods, but Minjeong chuckling as the older girl digs her head into the crook of her neck. “You smell like the ocean.” She pauses before lifting her head to gaze at the Poseidon daughter.
The raven notices that Jimin’s eyes wander all over her face, a slight smile that she loves so much coming into place. What catches her off guard, is the movement of the Athena daughter leaning toward her face. Minjeong’s heart possibly forgets how to beat at Jimin’s close proximity.
Jimin soundly kisses her, the feeling of her lips against her’s puts her worries to rest. It’s all too short—the blonde kissing her by the pond. When she pulls back, she laughs at Minjeong’s stunned state.
“You taste like it too.” The blonde mumbles, barely audible as she pushes Minjeong into the water, falling along with with their lips colliding once again. She guesses Jimin trusts her to give her the fresh breath of air she needs when all the odds are against them.
Underwater, in a bubble, they’re dry and whispering words of affirmation in between.
