Moonstone sighed.
"This is it," she thought, "If you don't do it now, you never will."
She had been standing at Diary's doorstep for a few minutes, going back and forth with herself mentally on whether or not to actually ring her doorbell. She almost has a few times, but nerves got the best of her each time.
"Alright, Moonstone. You've got this."
Moonstone reached out to the doorbell, leaning on her toes slightly in order to reach it comfortably. She put her finger tips on the button, pressing lightly, until...
"Nope, I can't do it."
She fell back down to her typical height, pulling her hand away from the doorbell. Once again, her nerves got the best of her, and once again, she walked away somberly, not even giving herself the chance to tell her crush how she feels. That is, up until she practically ran up to the door and knocked on it loudly. She stood there for second, shocked at herself and frankly cursing at herself silently, before knocking again a few seconds later, much quieter this time. She stood nervously, going over a script in her head and trying to calm herself. Before she could do that, however, she heard the sound of Diary's footsteps coming towards the door. And like that, all of the previous planning she had disappeared and was replaced by what felt like hundreds of butterflies.
"Moonstone?"
More like thousands.
"Hi Diary!" She blurted, a little more loudly than how she would've liked. She cleared her throat, and tried again. "Hi."
"What are you doing here?"
She drew a blank, her nervousness clearing her mind, and her inability to talk to her crushes in general not helping. "Just wanted to say hi."
That obviously wasn't the reason, but she didn't want to embarrass herself more than she already has, so she had to make do.
A few seconds of awkward seconds pass.
"That's it?"
"Yup."
Diary watched Moonstone for a moment, skeptical if she was telling the truth or not. But either way, she decided to give her the benefit of the doubt.
"Okay, then." Diary started to close the door, Moonstone's face flushing quickly as she did so. To Diary, it was probably just an awkward interaction, but to Moonstone?
It was now or never.
"Wait!"
Diary stopped and reopened the door, looking down at Moonstone with curiosity.
"Uhm..."
Moonstone whispered an affirmation to herself, taking a small breath afterwards. Diary watched on, curious. It was quiet, until the smaller girl spoke up again.
"Diary, I think you're really cool and I like you a lot, and I think it'd be super cool if you went on a date with me!" She said quickly. A few silent seconds pass, though it felt like an eternity. "Sorry," Moonstone whispered, turning to leave, "I'll just go."
"Wait."
She quickly turned around, looking at a now pinker-than-usual Diary.
"I..." She started. "That... would be nice."
Moonstone stood there, not having expected a yes. She couldn't help but grin, blushing a bit more than before. Diary smiled warmly in response, watching her as she watched back, getting lost in the taller girl's eyes for a moment before snapping herself out of it.
"I should probably go," she said, turning to leave before pausing and turning to look at her again. "See you tonight?"
Diary was leaning on the doorway, her gaze soft. She seemed to smile a little more than before at the question.
"See you."
Moonstone smiled widely, trying and failing to contain her excitement. She started to turn to leave again, deciding to say goodbye first.
"Bye Diary!"
"Bye, Moonstone," she responded.
As Moonstone walked away, she couldn't resist reading Diary's mind.
"Glub, she's cute."
She grinned.
