Work Text:

It was Aziraphale's first ball.

Well, she had watched from the sidelines a few times. And she knew how they worked. And it wasn't like she was allowed there anyway. Still, it was her first time attending a ball.

Oh god, Aziraphale thought, Father will be so angry.

But then again, what was her father supposed to do? Throw his own daughter out of his own party? There was no way he could do that. Not when everyone here was trying to catch a glimpse of her.

It all worked out in her favour.

And if anyone was wondering why she planned to do it on this exact day, then the appearance of the Crowley family along with their red-haired daughter was more than enough to act like an answer.

But now that the moment was here, Aziraphale was slightly nervous. Her dress – a beautiful beige one with small flowers woven throughout – served as a fidget as her fingers toyed with the hems.

You've promised Crowley. You promised you'd do it and you won't go back on that promise now. You will go through with it. And she will be waiting at the bottom of the stairs for you.

And with that, she stepped into view and took the first step down the stairs.

The second she was spotted all heads turned towards her and people began whispering in groups.

Aziraphale kept her eyes trained on the bottom of the stairs. More specifically on a certain red-head who was standing at the bottom of the stairs, waiting for her.

The two caught eyes and all worry left Aziraphale’s body. It was replaced by the same warm, fuzzy feeling that she got whenever they were together. A love-sick smile took its place on her lips and her face flushed slightly red.

On the second last step, Crowley offered her her hand. Aziraphale accepted it.

And if everyone hadn’t already been staring at the two and whispering about them, then they certainly would have started to do so as Crowley led Aziraphale.

Now, same-sex relationships were nothing new. And they were mostly accepted. The problem, however, was that Crowley was, well, a Crowley while Aziraphale was a part of the Heavenly family.

Aziraphale caught sight of her father. His face was red and his hand twitched by his side. But he could not do anything. And that gave Aziraphale all the confidence she needed to pull Crowley onto the dance floor.

Neither were very good dancers, but they knew they were already the talk of the town and dancing badly wouldn’t add too much. And, right then, in each other’s arms, dancing together for the first time, neither really cared.

They knew this would not last forever, but at least tonight they would be happy. Tomorrow they would deal with the consequences. Together.

“Aziraphale,” Aziraphale's father's voice sounded.

“Wanna run away, angel?” Crowley whispered into Aziraphale's ear.

Aziraphale laughed lightly and nodded into Crowley's chest.

And so Crowley took Aziraphale by the arm and the two disappeared into the gardens laughing as Aziraphale’s father tried to stop them.

As they ran they shook off their shoes, leaving them behind in order to run better.

“That was fun,” Azirapahle giggled, out of breath. Her arms were around Crowley’s neck and her back was to a tree.

“It was, wasn’t it?” Crowley laughed. Her hands snuck around Aziraphale’s waist and she leaned closer.

Aziraphale giggled once more and mirrored Crowley, leaning closer. Their lips touched and Crowley pressed closer.

Aziraphale let out a surprised sound and her hands moved to Crowley’s hair.

Their kiss was perfect. Until Aziraphale pulled away. Crowley chased her lips, a needy sound on her lips.

“Come on,” Aziraphale laughed. She took Crowley’s hand and took off running, Crowley in tow.

“Where ’re we going?” Crowley asked as they ran.

Aziraphale turned around so she was running backwards. “Somewhere a little more… private.”

Crowley’s eyes turned wide. “Well, then what are we waiting for?”

Aziraphale laughed and the two ran, laughing and smiling lovingly as they did.
