Work Text:
Hayate woke up.
His heart was beating rather fast. His cheeks were slightly pink. His body was all ticklish.
It wasn't the first time he dreamt about that.
The scenario and the whole situation were different every time, but the essence of the dream was always the same: he was being kissed. In the beginning, Hayate couldn't remember who was kissing him or what it felt like, but as soon as that became a regular dream, the details were more vivid when he woke up. The way the other person held him, kissed him, and assured him to make him feel good was… Very relaxing.
And that other person turned out to be Mima Takayuki.
His role model Mima-san. His friend who was polite and always held a beautiful smile on his face. The person who was both intelligent and a little clumsy sometimes. That Mima Takayuki.
Hayate didn't know how to react to that. It was just a dream, yes, but it felt so… Real. So real to the point he woke up gasping for air. All his body was turned on by the touch of Mima on both his lips and the rest of his skin. The way Mima's lips brushed against his made him embarrassed at the mere remembrance, and it wasn't even real! He clearly recalled all the times he was caressed by Mima and how at the next second the impact of their mouths was produced.
Hayate didn't know how he was able to know what a kiss felt like inside his dreams. Never had he given his first kiss, how was he able to experience the emotion of their lips making contact was a mystery. However, every time he opened his eyes and remembered he had dreamt about that specific situation, he got all nervous and excited at the same time.
Nervous because Mima was his friend, nothing else. Not his boyfriend, not his crush. Although…
Maybe Hayate looked up at Mima more than he should. It must be that and not the fact that he found Mima handsome. Of course Hayate had eyes and even though he wasn't very attracted to the idea of categorizing people as handsome, pretty, or ugly, he accepted that Mima stood out from the rest of the people he knew: his broad shoulders made an exquisite contrast with his slim waist. His facial features were out of this planet to Hayate's standards, the student couldn't think of anything he could suggest to his friend to change his physical appearance.
In Hayate’s opinion, he had been thinking about Mima's handsomeness more than he would like to admit. Whenever he saw any person that people categorized as good-looking, Hayate immediately compared them to Mima. It wasn't even conscious, but thanks to that Hayate understood his beauty standard was portrayed by one of his best friends. The recurrent dreams he had been having didn't help, quite the opposite: they only added fuel to the fire. In his dreams, Mima was the most handsome human being in the world –and it wasn't like in real life Takayuki wasn't handsome, far from that, but at least in his dreams Hayate was able to stare as much as he wanted without getting caught.
It wasn't only the physical appearance that Hayate found attractive on Mima, but also his personality. He was a hard-working man with a tender character and a lovely way to address other people. The fact that Mima was very formal with everyone, even with small kids, was something Hayate found both endearing and curious. He really liked his friend's way of speaking, of acting, of paying attention, of staring…
Maybe he had a little crush on Mima.
Hayate's mind roamed for a little more before sighing. He closed his eyes and remembered the dream: he was working at Mawarimichi Cafe as usual. Mima arrived and asked for a coffee which Hayate delivered almost immediately. The dream developed with normality until Hayate went to the back of the Cafe for something he didn't quite remember. Somehow, Mima was there waiting for him. They chatted a little, Mima even volunteered to help the other with whatever he needed. At some point, Mima had caressed Hayate's upper arm, passing his hand through his shoulder until reaching his neck. Mima had massaged the area with tenderness so he could later on have a hold of Hayate. Mima leaned on Hayate and kissed him, gently pushing him until Hayate's back was making contact with the wall. It was a soft kiss, their lips were dancing slowly, making contact with each other, and getting to know the taste of the other.
Until things heated up inside his dream.
It was a very simple kiss at the beginning, but Hayate knew they were in a public place and whoever passed by could catch them red-handed. That piece of information added excitement to the whole situation. Mima smirked during the kiss as if he was able to read Hayate's mind.
"Don't worry. They will not catch us," was the last thing Hayate heard before opening his eyes and waking up completely affected by the kiss.
It was said that dreams were representations of our unconscious desires. Hayate didn't want to think about that, because if that was true… He would be ashamed of himself.
Hayate decided he needed to get up to focus on something else so he could forget that dream. It was a Saturday morning; he usually would've gone to work but he exchanged his working day with Souma who on a regular basis would've worked on Sunday, meaning he had the day off. Hayate usually spent those staying at home, catching up with some book he had left apart, fixing his sleeping schedule, or playing videogames, but that day in particular he felt like he needed some fresh air.
The boy made his bed, changed his clothes, prepared and ate breakfast, and decided to go outside without a particular destiny in mind. To his own disgrace, he couldn't forget about the dream he had that morning while doing all the mentioned activities, so he hoped by wandering around he would succeed in forgetting how Mima's mouth felt against his.
Because it had felt very good.
Hayate walked from his apartment to the nearest train station. He thought he could wander at Ueno Park just to see more people enjoying themselves and have a different air from the places he usually visited. So with that destiny in mind, he played his favorite music on his earphones and traveled there.
When he arrived, his mind was still thinking about that dream from time to time, but it was less frequent than when he was at home. It actually had been a wise decision to get out of home, he thought. Hayate walked here and there while still listening to music, and saw the happy families playing or walking their dogs which made him relax, enjoying the view.
Soon, he noticed an hour had passed.
Now that he was less panicked about his dream, Hayate gave it a deep thought. It was unnecessary to make a big deal out of that. They simply were images created by his mind and nothing near to reality. Hayate hadn't even given his first kiss! He understood he was overthinking the whole situation.
But the thing was not only did his body experience the pleasurable adrenaline of that imaginary kiss but also his brain seemed to like it. The mere thought of kissing Mima didn't sound as repulsive as thinking about kissing a stranger. Maybe it was the confidence between the two of them, maybe knowing the older man for several months before was a critical aspect of why he was dreaming with Mima, or even Mima's personality helped with accepting that if Hayate wanted to experience what a kiss felt like, Mima would be one of his first options to consult.
Hayate, while sitting on a bench at Ueno Park and listening to music –although the melody was long forgotten to give room to his introspection–, hypothesized that the reason why he was having those dreams in a current matter was because he hadn't experienced it. He was 21 years old and his lips remained untouched by others. It wasn't like Hayate was craving that experience, far from it, but hearing over and over again the anecdotes from his friends at school about romantic affairs may have had an impact on his psyche.
Had he his first kiss, things would go back to normal and those dreams in which Mima kissed him would disappear, he came to a conclusion.
The thing was, he didn't feel comfortable kissing any people. He was someone sensible and appreciated human connections, he couldn't just go to any place where he could meet people and make out with one random person. It simply didn't feel right. However, asking a friend to kiss him was rather weird. He couldn't see himself talking about something like that with Souma, Kurosaki, or Motoharu, much less with Shun.
But Mima-san was different. He knew that if he explained his concerns, Mima would listen to him and offer good advice to his situation. And maybe who knows, he might volunteer himself to give that kiss.
The mere thought made Hayate blush.
He sighed. He couldn't picture himself openly asking Mima to kiss him. As much as he was curious, it would be something that Hayate's shyness would never allow. Or maybe… He sighed once again, finally hearing the music from his earphones being played.
"Hayate-kun?"
The mentioned literally jumped in his seat. That voice was too recognizable to ignore. Hayate turned around and saw Mima Takayuki wearing that constant polite and soft smile on his face that was now basically his trademark. He was wearing a white dress T-shirt with black trousers and a tie. That was the most formal outfit Hayate had seen Mima in and only by staring at him for two seconds, it had become one of Hayate's favorites. Mima wasn't wearing his glasses that day.
"M-Mima-san!?" Hayate couldn't hide his surprise. All of a sudden, his face blushed furiously and his heart started to beat like he had run a marathon just one second ago.
Of course, observant Mima noticed that, so the next second he was speaking once again. "Is everything okay? Did I startle you?" The concern was showing on his face. Hayate felt both guilty for making Mima worry out of nowhere and happy to realize the man cared for him.
"Ah, n-no…" Hayate answered while pausing the music so he could listen to Mima. He removed his earphones and put them inside his backpack. "What are you doing here, Mima-san?"
"I met with a client near here."
"A client?" Was Mima working Saturdays too?
"Yes. He was busy throughout the weekdays and up until today he had a room for me," Mima answered back. Hayate appreciated that the man didn't seem bothered at all. Most people would've been mad for doing work-related things on their days off. "May I sit?" The older man asked.
"Sorry! Yes, sure," Hayate moved to his right so there would be enough space for Mima. The man smiled and sat there, showing his tiredness by sighing longer than usual.
They remained in silence for a second, just observing people passing by and hearing the low chatter of the place. It wasn't unpleasant. Being next to each other, just keeping the other company, was a pleasant experience.
Until Hayate remembered one of his dreams.
He dreamt about it last week. The setting was similar: they were sitting on a bench at some park. They were chatting and having a good time until Hayate mentioned he was feeling hungry. Mima proposed going for something to eat and he agreed almost immediately, but when Hayate was about to get up, Mima grabbed him by the arm and brought him closer until their lips were making contact. Hayate was shocked by the sudden kiss but he accepted it anyway. His legs trembled to the point he sat once again, feeling Mima's thighs brushing against his due to the closeness of their bodies.
"I wanted to eat you first," was what Mima said after they broke the kiss. Of course, Hayate blushed furiously at that phrase: Mima's low velvety voice made everything sound twice as captivating as it actually was. The logical part of Hayate's brain knew Mima would hardly say something like that, but dreams knew no limits.
Why did he have to remember that dream just now? Hayate felt anxious and nervous all of a sudden. Yes, he knew it had been just a dream, but the way Mima kissed him felt very real. The younger man, while Mima was focused on the scenery, gave him a look. Mima's hair looked soft and clean, his clothes were always pristine and the cologne he used was of Hayate's liking. That man was attractive in many ways Hayate wasn't able to handle.
Hayate's eyes wandered from Mima's hair to his eyes until reaching his lips. They also looked soft. How would it be to kiss him? The only thing Hayate needed to do was to lean on and brush his against the other's. Mesmerized by the handsomeness of the other and curiosity taking the best of him, Hayate unconsciously started to get closer to Mima.
"Hayate-kun?" Mima's voice got him out of trance. Hayate once again jumped in his seat, noticing where he was: his left hand was resting over Mima's shoulder while the upper part of his body was invading the other's personal space.
"S-sorry!" He apologized as loudly as he could while moving away. His face was completely crimson and his body was shaking slightly over the embarrassment. What was Hayate thinking? Some minutes ago he convinced himself that he wasn't interested in kissing people and the next second Mima was near him, he was literally getting over him.
Mima didn't say anything but even if Hayate wasn't looking at him, he could feel the other's intense stare over him. Mima was probably mad at his actions and he would be on his right to feel that way. Three seconds felt like decades, Hayate's heart bumped as quickly as it did when he woke up from those regular dreams he had been having. His heart beat even faster if possible when he felt Mima's hand over his forehead.
Hayate whined at the touch and the other immediately retrieved his touch. "I'm sorry. I just wanted to know if you're okay. It seems like you have a fever. Your face is very red and it feels hot," Mima said with concern. Hayate felt bad about it; he knew he wasn't sick but rather touch-deprived. He longed not for anyone's touch but the person who was sitting next to him.
"I-I'm fine," he managed to say.
"Are you sure? Would you like me to take you home?" Mima offered, still not leaving Hayate's face out of sight for even a second.
"Don't worry, Mima-san. I'm completely fine…"
After some word exchanges and Mima emphasizing the importance of resting when one is sick and how he would feel much more relieved if he accompanied Hayate to his house, the younger agreed on that sudden plan. Traveling back to his apartment was somehow uncomfortable, at least for Hayate; they were silent most of the travel. He couldn't erase the image of Mina leaning and kissing him in any circumstance he had.
After arriving at his apartment and being at the front door, Hayate opened it and breathed out the air he had kept inside his lungs for the whole trip. Would he invite Mima to come in? It would be rude if he didn't do that, but Hayate knew that the main reason he was behaving that way was because of Mima's proximity.
"Hayate-kun, let me help you get into bed. You look like you could pass out in any minute," Mima offered himself to take care of the other. Accepting would be inconsiderate from Hayate because he knew he wasn't sick at all! But saying no would also be impolite.
While the younger man was considering what answer to give, another dream came to his mind. In that scenario, Mima had waited for Hayate to finish his shift at Mawarimichi Cafe and walked the boy back home. When Hayate opened the main door and turned to say goodbye, Mima caught him by the upper arms, clashing his lips against the other's. Hayate was startled at the action, his brain didn't have the opportunity to process what was happening until he felt himself being pushed inside the apartment. Hayate heard the door being closed, but all his focus was on the body against him, pushing him against the wall and claiming his lips as his.
Hayate didn't know how to respond and soon his body felt hot. Mima's hands were everywhere: on his back, on his arms, caressing his face, traveling from his chest to his stomach, grabbing his thigh, and keeping him still. It was overwhelming but Hayate was enjoying it. He was amused by the skilled lips kissing him with passion as If Mima's life depended on it. Hayate was shamelessly whimpering and moaning at the kisses, it was too much.
The sound of a car from the street made him come back to Earth. Hayate blinked once, twice to understand that everything he saw in his mind was imaginary and nothing of that had actually happened. His body started shaking by the embarrassment but also by the sudden hotness the remembrance of his dream gave him.
"I…" He wasn't able to say anything more but simply lean on Mima. Fortunately, the other man caught him. Hayate's legs were trembling like jelly; he couldn't stay up any longer.
"Come here," Mima said while taking him into his embrace. The man entered the house and closed the door. He took off his shoes and helped Hayate to do the same without falling onto the floor. It wasn't the first time Mima had been in Hayate's house, so the man knew where everything he needed was.
Takayuki helped Hayate to sit on his bed. While the boy stood there, Mima went to the kitchen and put water to boil. He came back with a green tea and Hayate accepted it with shyness after saying a soft thank you.
Hayate drank the tea in silence. It seemed like Mima wouldn't be leaving until making sure he was safe. "Are you better?" The older man asked after some time. His voice was soft and caring as if it would disturb Hayate if it was louder –and it probably would’ve. Hayate looked him in the eyes: those sleepy eyes were looking him back with worry.
"Yes, I…" Words were lost in the air. Hayate couldn't lie to Mima and continue with his fake illness. But, could he tell the truth? He doubted it.
Mima would be uncomfortable the moment Hayate started to explain why he was behaving like that, and he would be completely right to feel that way. How would Hayate feel if a person told him the exact same thing? How would he react after hearing that another person was constantly dreaming about kissing him?
"You know you can tell me anything you want. I'm here to help," Mima said with the exact same soft voice he used in his last comment. It was like he was reading Hayate's mind; Mima always knew what to tell and when to do so.
Hayate stared at the floor. He was too embarrassed to actually say what was happening with him and his dreams with Mima, but he knew that if he got that out of his chest, the situation might improve. Otherwise, every time he saw Mima or was near him, he would react the same way.
Hayate took a deep breath, counted up to five, and started speaking.
"I have been having the same dream over and over again," he began to explain. His voice was low and shaky even for his own ears. "The situations are different b-but it's always the same. Someone… Someone that I know kisses me," he didn't lie but neither did he say the entire truth. He made a pause, waiting for Mima to say something but that masculine voice was never heard. Hayate couldn't dare to face the other man, so he continued speaking; eyes glued to the floor. "I… I don't know if I'm dreaming about it b-because I want them to kiss me or if it's because of my… My lack of experience."
Hayate felt like he was about to combust out of embarrassment. How did he manage to say those words? He didn't have a clue. Silence surrounded them in a slightly tense way. Hayate wanted to hear something from Mima, anything would be good at that point. Instead, Mima was cautious and serious, probably analyzing the situation, but Hayate didn't have a way to know. He felt like continuing talking –even if he didn't want to– just to fill the empty air surrounding them.
"I… I don't want to k-kiss anybody, it's just…" He paused. Talking was very difficult at that moment! "It isn't like I want to kiss somebody, b-but I was thinking that maybe if I do it…"
The rest of the words were left unspoken. Mima probably understood, or that was what Hayate prayed to. Then again, silence. Mima was right, he was about to pass out out of embarrassment in any other second. Maybe it was for the best: that way he would avoid continuing with that talk and he could give his brain a break.
"So…" Takayuki finally said. His voice was low and thoughtful; it made Hayate shiver. He was keeping his distance, staying still. "What are you suggesting?"
He knew. Of course Mima would understand! He got the idea, he totally knew Hayate was asking him for a kiss. Why didn't he propose to do so himself? It would save Hayate some face and prevent him from having a heart attack. "W-well, I…" Hayate breathed in and out; it was very complicated to basically ask for affection. Never did he have the necessity to do so, why did things end up that way? He licked his lips with nervousness.
Hayate closed his eyes to focus, but it turned all the way around. He felt Mima's hands over the small of his back and over his right hand. He suddenly opened his eyes, noticing Mima was way too close to him. Hayate was petrified. In his dreams, Mima always kissed him rather quickly, all of a sudden. Yes, it shocked Hayate but then he was able to keep the peace of the kiss. But this way, being completely conscious about what was about to happen… It was way too much, he definitely couldn't handle it.
He noticed he was trembling until Mima spoke again. "Hayate-kun, tell me to stop if you don't like it," he murmured at the mentioned's ear. Hayate openly shivered at that, making a drowned sound in the process. That was it, he was going to be kissed as he had many times before in his dreams but this time around everything was real: Mima approaching him, holding him, taking care of him… It was real.
The older man got close until their noses were basically brushing one with the other and their breathings mixed. If he wanted to focus on Mima's face, he would have to force his eyes to do so. Hayate's eyes were completely open and, as expected, Takayuki noticed it. "Close your eyes, Hayate-kun," again, it was barely a whisper.
The younger man did what he was told and the next second he felt it. Mima was kissing him. In the mouth. Hayate gasped and tensed unconsciously, focusing on every centimeter of his body that was brushing against Mima's. Their lips, hands, skin, everything was alive and burned like a bonfire. The kiss was simple and silly: just their lips together doing nothing more than making contact. However, Hayate felt like dying at that exchange –if it could be called that because he was as still as a rock.
Mima moved away after some time, but Hayate was too ashamed to meet his eyes. He kept his eyes closed, barely moving as if he was a sculpture. The only thing that indicated he was alive was his heavy and unsteady breathing and his cheeks burning.
Hayate heard a chuckle, followed by Mima's comment. "Did you like it that much? Should I give you another one?" Was he flirting? The youngest man couldn't know. Half an hour ago he was convincing himself that he would never ask Mima for a kiss and now that man was, by his own will, asking if he wanted another. "Don't move if that is the case," Hayate wasn't able to move even if he wanted.
Another kiss was given, this time a little bit more intense. Mima moved his left hand from Hayate's right, going up through his arm until reaching his neck. The man placed his big hand between Hayate's neck and cheek to stabilize him. Mima was giving him small kisses while the other still didn't know how to proceed.
As if he was reading his thoughts once again, Mima separated slightly so he was able to speak. "Do what I do, try to copy the movements. Do you feel it?" Yes, of course Hayate was feeling everything. The lack of speech was compensated by the hyper-sensitivity his body had at that moment.
Hayate came to the understanding that the kisses inside his dreams were nothing compared to real ones. He assured himself that they had felt real, but now that he had Takayuki’s lips over his, he understood how wrong was he.
Hayate tried his best and moved his lips the same way Mima was doing it. The difference was immediately obvious: instead of just feeling something brushing against his lips, he was now actually savoring the other's mouth. It was a little wet and messy, but Hayate wouldn't have it any other way. Suddenly, his mind rested, focusing only on what he was doing and not caring for anything before or after it. It was an amazing experience, far away from what he had dreamt about: the lips were one of the most sensible parts of the body; everything felt a million times more there.
When Mima broke the kiss, Hayate was breathing heavily. He got hold of Mima's dress shirt and tried to stabilize himself for a few seconds. Mima waited for him, neither pushing him to hurry up nor going away. Hayate was thankful the other man was very considerate.
"M-Mima-san…" He inhaled and exhaled repeatedly. "I didn't tell you everything. I-I…" What did Hayate have to hide at that point? "I lied," he accepted while not letting the other's clothes off his fists. Hayate breathed and gathered all the courage he could to look Mima in the eyes. "I was dreaming a-about you and me. You were kissing me. I… I wanted to know what kissing you was like," he spat as fast as he could. "I wanted so much that I kept dreaming about it over and over again," he realized while speaking. All of Hayate's body was lighter as if all the weight over his shoulders had disappeared.
Mima was surprised –positively surprised. "Hayate-kun…" He started but couldn't continue. Words left his brain and the only thing he was able to think about was repeating every second inside his head.
Kiss him again.
He didn't even think about it one more second. Mima hugged Hayate so fast to the point they both fell over the bed. Mima started kissing him again, this time with excitement and passion. They moved, they held the other, their head bent side to side, and their hearts beat in synchrony. At some point, Mima was on top of Hayate, helping himself with his arms to avoid crushing the younger man with his body.
That was the type of kiss Hayate dreamt about. It didn't mean it was his only favorite, but at least he was a little more familiarized with the intensity and urgency of Mima's kisses rather than the softest and gentleness of their first kiss. Hayate tried to reciprocate the kisses, succeeding sometimes, failing others. The younger man's body was completely hot, his throat was making embarrassing sounds, and his lips felt swollen.
It wasn't until Mima brushed his tongue against Hayate's lower lip that the boy knew he wouldn't be able to control himself any longer. The feeling of the soft and yet wet muscle made him whimper, opening his mouth in the process. Mima took the chance and explored the other's mouth with his tongue. Hayate shivered like crazy, held Mima's shirt like his life depended on it, and tried to close his legs at the funny tickle his belly was feeling, but he found Mima's body between his legs, not allowing him to close them and rather imprisoning the older man between them.
Mima broke the kiss once again. This time, he didn't bend over to give the other more but stayed still so both of them could regulate their breathing. Mima looked down and found a beautiful image: Hayate was inhaling and exhaling with difficulty, his lips were parted and red. His hair was spread over the bed, just some locks remained over his forehead. Hayate's cheeks were the reddest possible and his expression was one of longing.
"You're beautiful," Mima said without thinking. Hayate opened his eyes to the full just to cover them with his own hands once the initial surprise passed. "Hayate-kun, now that you know how kisses feel like, do you want to kiss somebody else?"
Hayate withdrew his hands over his face and tried to speak as seriously as possible. "I… I never wanted anyone else but y-you, Mima-san," it was true. Even when Hayate still didn't accept he wanted to kiss the other man, the mere idea of kissing someone else wasn't appealing.
It has always been Mima.
The older man smiled. "I'm happy because I also wanted to kiss you for a long time," he admitted. "And I don't think I could kiss anyone else."
Hayate smiled, warmth extending throughout his body. Mima and him were on the same page, they felt the same way. There was no other thing Hayate wanted to know.
"Shall we do it once more?"
The other nodded.
