Work Text:
Melissa slumps into the pillows, breathless and satiated, Peter panting between her thighs and Chris sucking love bites into her neck. Peter nips at the skin of her thigh as he makes his way back up to her, capturing her lips in a kiss.
“You’re so beautiful like this,” Peter says against her lips. “Full of bliss and pleasure, all because of us. All ours.”
“Yours,” she parrots, pulling him in for another kiss.
Chris turns her head and moans at the bitter taste of her from Peter’s lips and Peter’s taste on her tongue.
Peter kisses peppers her bare shoulder with kisses, sucking over Chris’s marks he left on her. He makes his way down her side but stops at her stomach. He stills, taking a deep breath.
“Oh, my darling.” He trails fingers over the soft skin with astonishment.
Melissa pulls away from Chris and looks down at Peter. “What? What is it?”
“Your scent. It’s shifted.”
Melissa sucks in a sharp breath. “Am I sick?”
“Oh, the farthest thing from it, my dear,” Peter says. He puts his palm on her belly and her eyes widen.
“Really?” she whispers.
“What?” Chris says, still not caught up on the revelation.
She turns to him with a teary smile. “I’m pregnant.”
Chris gasps and his hand joins Peter’s on her stomach, fingers slipping into Peter’s as he squeezes with excitement. “Oh my God.”
“Can you tell who—” Melissa starts.
“No,” Peter says, shaking his head. “That is one thing that I can’t smell. At least, not until they’re born.”
“It could be either of yours,” Melissa says, still grinning.
“No matter whose it is, it’s ours. All of ours.”

The first priority is telling Scott.
Her son was apprehensive about her relationship with the two men at first, more concerned about their moral standings than the fact that his mother, who had been single for a great portion of his life, is dating not one, but two men.
Scott knowing the men, especially knowing them how he did, made it rocky at the start, and Melissa made it very clear that Scott would always be her priority and if he didn’t approve of them as her partners, then she couldn’t continue seeing them.
But Scott had seen the men change throughout the years in their wild adventures with the supernatural. He had gained a trust in them, maybe even respect. He had seen the way they had changed and became better men and in the end, Scott tentatively gave them a chance.
Of course, her partners had bonded with Scott from their life threatening crisis, but as they got to know each other, they bonded in other ways.
Peter obviously bonded with Scott with their werewolf-ness in a way that Melissa would never truly understand. They weren’t completely pack, not in the way Peter was with his family, but they’re something close to it, and Melissa knows that Peter has missed that connection.
Chris bonded with Scott more on a human level (no pun intended). He understood that guilt and longtime hurt that comes with the decision of a hunter (though Scott would never consider himself such, he did face many creatures and had to vanquish them from his territory). Chris was someone that Scott could talk to about the darkness he feared and knew was inside of him and how to come to terms with the fact that it’s not wrong.
They also bonded over normal things. Chris started to go with Scott to volunteer at the animal shelter. Scott somehow got Peter into lacrosse and they’d watch the games together.
And it was relieving. Relieving that Scott not just accepted the men that had captured Melissa’s heart, but had begun to see in them what made her fall in love.
It’s nerve wracking, sitting Scott down to tell him the news.
Scott is twenty two years old, already out of college, already lived more horrors than any boy his age has had to.
And, well, for a long time it was just them. She knows his father was an awful, awful man and the best thing she did was get him out of his life. So, Scott had her and she made sure that he always had her to trust and to come to.
But now he’s getting a little sibling when he’s already an adult, on his way to start his life without her.
She’s afraid that he’s going to feel replaced, even though no one could ever replace him.

She decides to break the new over dinner.
Food makes everything better, right?
Scott doesn't bring Kira, which is odd considering the two of them have grown inseparable and stronger together in time. They had stood the test of long distance, Kira striving for something greater than the colleges near Beacon Hill could give, and despite everything, they're as in love as they were, even more in love, than they were in the puppy love of adolescence.
Scott is nervous, and something in the back of Melissa's mind knows that, but she's just as nervous, and repeating the speech she's been rehearsing all day.
"Mom," Scott says. "I know you said you needed to talk to me about something, but uh, I really, really need to talk to you about something too."
Melissa's head snaps up from the broccoli she was staring holes into. "Of course, honey."
"But, uh, if you want to just, tell me what it is you want to talk to me about first, that would be great too. Because, you know, then I'll just be worrying that I'm talking about my thing and then it turns out that grandma died or something."
Melissa chuckles. "No. Your grandma didn't die. Or your grandpa. Or anyone you know."
Scott lets out a breath of relief. "Oh. Good. Great." His brows furrow. "Then what...?"
"You know we've had some conversations about... about expanding the family, with Peter and Chris, but I thought we could talk about that again. But, well, not thought. We need to—"
"Yes! Exactly! That's what I wanted to talk to you about."
"Oh? Oh! Okay. Great. No. Wait. What are you—"
"I know exactly what you mean and I'm glad I don't have to be the one to bring it up because, whew. Mom's really know everything, right?"
"Wait, are you talking about—"
"You're talking about—"
"I'm pregnant." "I'm proposing."
They both stare at each other with wide eyes.
"You're what?!"
Melissa stares at him, mouth agape with shock and with pride. "Oh, Scott. You're really... Oh. Honey. That's amazing. You know I love Kira. We all do. And we all knew it would happen sometime. You have my entire support. I know how much you love that woman and I'm so happy for the both of you. Though, I hope you at least fill your bank accounts a little more before tackling a wedding."
"Ugh. Mom. Just because I'm proposing doesn't mean we're getting married tomorrow." He stills. "No. Wait. Back up." He takes a strong sniff, leaning over the table as he, she assumes, zones in on her scent. "Woah. Yeah. You... woah." He looks up with a teary grin. "I'm gonna be a big brother?"
"Yeah," Melissa says, nodding with relief and excitement. "Are you okay with that?"
"Okay with that? That's... that's amazing! I've always wanted a sibling! And yeah, I've had Stiles and Isaac, but never... never a sibling sibling. And yeah, of course, blood doesn't mean everything, but... but this one, this one's..."
And she can see the bond building and pulsing in Scott.
Pack. Pack. Pack.
Melissa understands the concept of pack, but she will never truly feel the ties formed from their love. But she doesn’t need to. Because the love a mother has for her son, and the love that she has for her partners, is stronger than they will understand too.

Peter and Scott become unbearably overbearing as her pregnancy persists, but surprisingly, Chris is the one who is the most protective.
Where Peter is the one who wants to be at her beckon call, Chris is the one who can’t stop touching her whether it be massaging her sore muscles or holding her belly up as they cuddle.
At least Scott mostly is just worried about her eating (and somehow her pregnancy cravings are even weirder than when she had Scott, and she had been eating pickles dipped in yogurt and dijon then.)
But no matter how annoying it is, she feels completely and utterly loved. It’s hard to be mad when she knows that they do it because they care. Not just care. They’re devoted. And she is so utterly devoted to them too.
She prepares for a potential werewolf baby. For all of the strains and struggles that come with being a human bearer or a werewolf baby and when they don’t come, she’s sure that the baby is Chris’s.
But then, on a normal Tuesday night as they eat spaghetti burritos while watching a shitty romcom, she realizes what she thought were braxton hicks are the real thing, as her water breaking pools beneath her and leaves a stain that will be impossible to clean later.
As a nurse, she knows that labor is more often than not a very long process which means they don’t rush to get their things together to get to Deaton’s.
There’s a lot of worries for this birth. For one, she’s nearing fifty, and mothers her age are almost three times the risk of low birth weight and premature birth, not to mention the risk fetal mortality was almost double.
And she’s early. She’s early by more than just a few weeks, which means this baby is being born prematurely, and is already at risk for so much, and she doesn’t know if she, her partners, or Scott will be able to handle losing it.
As she’s rushed onto the bed that had been waiting for her at Deaton’s, she thanks whatever deity is up there that she’s got a partner who is basically invulnerable to her human strength, because she’s pretty sure she would’ve ripped Chris’s hand by now.
Labor takes over ten hours, but finally, a beautiful baby girl is born. A baby girl who is definitely not a premie.
She’s got a thick fuzz of dark curls and Peter’s blue eyes and Melissa’s heart swells and stutters.
“She’s yours,” she whispers to Peter.
His eyes pool with tears as he swipes a knuckle on her cheek and softly scents her. A sob escapes his lips. “She’s a Hale.”
“She’s a Hale,” Melissa nods. “And she’s a McCall.” She turns to Chris whose eyes are also filled with tears, smiling brightly at her and their daughter. “And she’s an Argent.”
Chris’s face crumbles as he starts to sob too, for different reasons. “Allison would’ve loved her.”
Peter wraps him into his embrace, Chris burying his face in Peter’s neck as he cries along with him.
And even though it’s a beautiful occasion, something momentous for the three of them, it’s also bittersweet because of all of those who can’t see it with them.
But the tears dry and then they’re just filled with wonder and astonishment at the beautiful girl who has entered the world and their lives.
They don’t do anything like name her after those they’ve lost. Though they’d love to honor them, this isn’t the way.
Instead, they give their little girl a name of her own so she can create her own legacy.
And whatever that legacy is, whatever life she’ll lead, she will be so, so loved.
