"How hard can it be to get a job when you have graduated from one of the top colleges in your country?" The young man thought as he walked out of another office building after getting another "we might call you" this month. He knew for a fact that none of them would. He also knew that it was most likely to be none of his fault or lack of experience. In fact, he'd had a job before even getting into college, so the lack of experience or technician skills were clearly not the case.
So how hard can it be and when is it going to end? At this point, Hector was about to kill for the answer.
He was genuinely and rightfully furious, especially now that he needed money more than ever and of course no one could give him even a simple job. The young man sighed as he stopped near the road waiting for the green light.
And then there was a flash of green light across the road. Or was it just something moving too rapidly?
"What in the actual f-" Hector thought as he looked around him to see if there was anyone else who noticed this. Surprisingly, nobody seemed to have seen this. "Did I just hallucinate or..?"
"Five, watch your head!" Someone yelled from behind him. British. Hector didn't even think for a split second if it was addressed to him, nor didn't he have time to try to recognize the voice of whoever said that, but he bowed and then jumped away right the moment before something green and nasty grabbed him. "Well, finally years of gaming paid off," he thought to himself, unsure of how he should've reacted to the fact that a hologram could physically harm him or anything else or that people around didn't even see it when it was right in front of their eyes.
Wait. Where are the people? They were there just a minute ago!
"Now let's deal with you, shall we?" The British man spoke again from behind Hector as he jumped from a glitchy hologram again. Only then did he realize that there were more than just one man and there were lots more noises that he could hear at first. In fact, the thing he's been jumping away from was just a little part of an enormous creature rushing back and forth around the street as it met laser beams from four people in white and grey suits and visors. Hector could swear he's never seen a team sync as good as they were.
And then there was another flash of light and the young man suddenly felt no ground under his feet.
"Five!" He heard a desperate scream from a man with a pink-ish visor as he fell to the ground, seconds away from another hit by the growling monster. Hector closed his eyes and tensed, too afraid of what could happen the next second.
The glitchy creature froze, only a few feet away from his face. And then it suddenly got shot in the back, falling apart until there was only a green shapeless glitch that was making some angry noises. And then it got sucked into the gauntlet of the man with a pink visor. "Glitch contained" Hector heard as he froze staring at him.
Was it his head, damaged or... why in the world did he seem so familiar?
"You sure can scare the hell out of me Five" the man sighed and gave him a soft smile. Hector blessed his skin color for not letting him see he blushed. "Even after all these years."
And he wanted to say something in return, he really did. But the British man was way ahead of him, shooting him from his gauntlet.
"It's for your own safety Five," he heard at the edge of his consciousness seconds before everything went black.
When he woke up in his apartment, Hector couldn't remember anything about the glitch, nor did he remember a weirdly familiar face and voice. Only a severe headache as if he had a hungover and a strange warm feeling in his chest.
"Well, not the worst way to wake up, in fact," he sighed and got up on his feet. He still had an interview with a potential employer to attend.
