Work Text:
Imagine yourself being locked up in a box made of plexiglas. There are iron rings welded to the underside that are attached to heavy weights. There’s a flashlight in your hands. Not very efficient, but at least there’s something.
With all that, you’re dropped in the middle of the ocean. Before that, the last thing you see are wild waves bouncing side to side and seagulls far away in the sky.
Slowly but surely you start sinking.
At first you can still see the light and the blue sky, but quickly begin to lose it and the water around you darkens into deep blue. Occasionally you can see a small fish swimming around the box, but there’s no other life in sight.
You’re sinking faster, further into the blackness of the deepest water. You look up so you can see the daylight for the last time in your life.
The depths of the ocean eventually swallow you whole and you urgently snatch the flashlight. Right now it’s the only source of light and maybe the last light your eyes will ever see.
You’re trying to find something - anything with the flashlight but the nothingness makes you desperate.
With every other meter, your fear escalates. You are shaking. You are punching the walls of the box that barely allows you to move. Time is slowly dragging with you and you feel like it’s taking forever. It’s hard to breathe. Your heart is racing.
Suddenly you hit your head on the ceiling.
You are at the bottom and everything went completely silent. You can see the box is one fourth deep buried in the sand, due to the strong impact.
It's a wonder it didn't crack your head open, but you would’ve liked that, wouldn’t you? It would have ended your suffering.
You still can’t believe this is happening right now and that you ended up in this situation. You feel absolutely helpless. You wish this was just a nightmare that you will wake up from sooner or later.
You shine the flashlight on the sand and occasionally into the darkness.
It's driving you crazy and delusional. You’re seeing moving shapes of fish that don't even exist. Glowing eyes, where there is no one else besides you. You’re hearing sounds similar to whistle blowing. It hurts your ears even if it's only in your head.
The oxygen is running out and you can only dimly see the light from the flashlight flickering before your eyes. For the last time you look into the black emptiness.
The flashlight goes out and so does your life.
But in spite of that, your soul will forever wander through the endless void of the ocean.
Until it reaches its end.
