Work Text:
Following your normal, everyday routine, you were sitting in the cafeteria eating lunch and talking to your fellow teachers. One thing was out of the ordinary though, a massive lack of Gojo Satoru obnoxiously draping an arm over your shoulder and joking around with Ieiri or bothering Nanami.
Without him there it was strangely peaceful, and you didn’t like it. You would never admit it, but lunch was something you were always looking forward to. Gojo’s antics were always something that made you laugh and every time the two of you touched you would relish it. You finished your food quicker than normal with the calm atmosphere. It was unsettling so you went to go track down Gojo and find out what was keeping him.
You found him in his office. You knocked on the door, but he never answered so you just let yourself in. He was sitting on the futon under the window in his office, slouched down with his head in his hands and his glasses were dropped on the floor next to his foot. The sight made your stomach drop with concern; how could the strongest sorcerer be disheveled like this?
“Gojo?” You asked and he jumped, surprised by your presence, which was strange. Nothing could ever surprise Gojo.
He looked up to you with wide eyes and then pulled a weak smile realizing it was only you, “Oh, hey.”
“Are you alright?” You asked and before you knew it, you found yourself sitting next to him on that futon.
“I’m perfect.” He says and sits up, trying to use his body language to convince you.
Your look of concern falls right to a deadpan, seeing right through his act. “C’mon. Don’t lie to me.”
He sighed and was quiet for a moment. Gojo was never the type of person to open up about what was bothering him. After the silence was too heavy to bear, he started to speak. You were different anyways; you would always listen to him.
“After my first successful domain expansion, my six eyes have been driving me crazy.”
Looking at your face he can see that you don’t really understand but he doesn’t miss the sympathy overflowing from you. Gojo thinks for a minute, about how he could possibly put what he’s feeling into words.
“It’s as if…” He starts, “I can see everything, but I can’t see anything at the same time.” He leans back in his seat and stressfully runs his fingers through his hair. “And I get these awful migraines. I feel like I can’t do anything.”
“That’s sounds awful.” You say but your mind is already thinking of what you could possibly do to help, the second Gojo’s problem really sets in. “I’m here to listen, but would you want a solution, because I have an idea if you’re up to it.”
Gojo smiled, “Thank you.” You mirrored his smile as you got up from the futon, “One second, I’ll be right back.”
Watching you leave the room, it made Gojo think. You had a reputation for just making people happier and he never expected to be on the receiving end of that.
Barely any time passed before you had entered his office again, with his favorite flavor of kikufuku from the vending machine and a… roll of bandages?
“I got your favorite.” You said and handed him the sweet treat which he took gratefully.
“What’s that for?” Gojo asked, referencing the additional gift you brought.
“Well,” You begin, moving to stand behind Gojo and the futon, and his eyes followed you the entire way. He turned his head to look up at you, confused about where this was going as you stood fully behind him. “You can see everything right?” You ask, and your hands gently find the side of his head and turn him so he’s facing forward. “Well, if you try to see nothing,” you bring your hands towards his forehead to bring his hair up and out of the way while you spoke, “maybe it would make that everything not so overwhelming.”
Gojo leaned into your touch. He closed his eyes, embracing it, finding a strong sense of comfort. You began to wrap the bandages around his head, covering his eyes. When you finished, you leaned forward towards the side of his head, “Open your eyes.” You said, waiting for his response, “Did it work or was my idea completely off.” You said with a smile, trying to play it off just incase your solution was a bust.
When he opened his eyes again, it was like a weight was lifted off his shoulders. Gojo turned to face you and a smile grew on his face, “Is it crazy to say that I can see you better now, than with just my eyes?” he asks with a laugh. Seeing him actually doing better lifted your spirits too. When Gojo was in a good mood, it was infectious.
“I’m happy to have helped.” You responded and stopped leaning forward to stand up straight, but you were stopped when Gojo gently grabbed your wrist, not wanting to part with your touch. “Wha-?” Gojo cut you off before you could ask your questions, “Can you just…” He pulled your arm across his chest, never finishing his question.
Feeling you pull away gave Gojo a quick moment of panic, scaring him away from his briefly lived good mood. He didn’t know why but at the moment, he just needed you with him.
You froze for a second, but it didn’t even take a moment before you embraced him. You draped your left arm on his chest, joining it with your other and he held your hand by the fingertips. You rested your head on top of his, in an unusually intimate moment between the two of you.
“I… appreciate you… a lot.” Gojo said, after enjoying the silence from your comforting embrace. It had been so long since he let himself be vulnerable in front of other people and really said what he was thinking. “I’d do anything for you.” You admitted to him, shocking yourself with your own confession. You laughed a bit awkwardly, but he laughed wholeheartedly, and it wasn’t long before you joined him. Now you truly have brought him out of his funk.
“Thanks.” He said and you, wanting to move to a new topic, you began to think out loud, “Isn’t it weird that a simple, boring object has such an effect on the world’s strongest sorcerer? I’m kind of surprised it worked.”
“What!?” Gojo sat up to turn and face you.
“It was the first idea that came to mind!” You defended yourself.
“Now I’m thinking, maybe I can use the blindfold to train my six eyes. Thanks to you, my power is only on the incline!” Gojo clapped to himself, proud of his own revelation.
“Quit thanking me already.” You pouted, but the corner of your lips still slightly turned upwards in a smile.
“Thank youuuuuuu!” Gojo laughed as he poked your cheek which each word of gratification. “Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you!”
“Okay okay!” You swatted his hand away and in despite of your feigned annoyance, your face shined with enthusiasm, “you’re welcome.”
Bonus:
“Gojo.” Nanami didn’t know why he was still surprised when Gojo came up with some new antic, he really should expect it at this point. “What is on your face?”
Gojo turned around to face Nanami, and it was a little unsettling the way Nanami couldn’t see Gojo’s eyes but still felt intense eye contact between the two of them.
“I’m training my six eyes.” Gojo responded, nonchalantly, like it was obvious.
Nanami’s stoic expression turned into a frown, like it normally does when he’s speaking to Gojo.
“Throw something at me, just try it.” He continued, a smug smile growing on his face.
“No thank you.” Was all the businessman said before continuing on his way.
Gojo quickly stepped in front of Nanami to stop him from walking away, “C’mon, it’ll be fun.” Nanami only ignored him, walking around the lanky sorcerer to get where he needed to be. But to indulge Gojo (and for Nanami to really see what was up with those bandages) Nanami looked over his shoulder to see if the other was paying attention.
Seeing that Gojo was pouting and kicking at the dust on the ground in front of him, Nanami leaned down to pick a pebble off of the ground and gave it a quick throw at him.
Gojo’s hand quickly shot up to grab the pebble before it hit him in the head and he turned to look at Nanami, a smile on his face.
In response, Nanami gave him a curt nod and turned back to the direction he was walking.
“YIPEEEEE!” Gojo cheered, congratulating himself on getting the small approval of his old kouhai.
