Work Text:

Night creeped over the horizon as a figure walked across the concrete sidewalk, a chill finding itself in the air. Shop owners closing their shops, closing shutters with a slam, though the figure does not flinch as they keep their way down the sidewalk. The noise of shoes hitting the concrete as they walk past the closing stores. Breath is becoming visible in the air under the streetlights as the figure walks over a bridge. Pulling their coat close to hide from the cold, the now revealed teen walks faster towards his destination which is still unseen. The scuffling of feet is louder as the boy dashes past a park with benches, drawing closer to the apartment building now in sight. The receptionist doesn’t bat an eye as the teen walks past without even a word, being used to the boy’s intrusions by now. Past the receptionist and up the elevator, with agonizingly slow yet annoyingly loud dings as each floor passes, the boy steps out and finds himself walking down the hallway, grateful that he is no longer subjected to the noisy outside world or the obnoxious ticking. Chuuya had once called the boy just that, noisy and obnoxious, but that wasn’t important right now.

Finally reaching the door of the desired room, the brunette picked the lock with a few clicks and shifts. Opening the now unlocked door, he was instantly welcomed by the sound of quiet music and sounds from the kitchen. He snuck his way towards the kitchen, staring at a ginger who wasn’t looking. Chuuya Nakahara in all his glory is making himself dinner, a simple homemade pasta and sauce. The boiling water bubbled, filling the kitchen with calm noise. Chuuya turned around to grab his glass, only to be surprised by the brunette in the doorway watching him “What the fuck Maceral! Why the hell are you just standing in the doorway?! How did you even get in here!” Despite the ginger’s words, the was no bite in his voice. His face dampened as he saw the unusual look on his partner’s face “oi, what’s wrong with you. Why do you look like a kicked puppy?”

Dazai steps forward and leans on the counter in front of him while trying to build back his façade “Awww~ Is Chibi worried about me? I’m touched~ Though I suppose it is normal for a dog to worry for its master”. Chuuya was quick to snarl back, turning back to the pot that held his cooking noodles “Yeah as if! I’m no one’s damn dog you got that!” They stood in silence for a minute before Chuuya spoke again “Seriously though, what’s up with you? You look more like hell than usual” there was small amounts of concern peeking through his voice, but if Dazai heard it, he didn’t mention it. Dazai pouted and shrugged as he responded, “If slug must know, Boss sent me on a solo mission this morning, and everything has been loud since.” Now that got Chuuya’s attention. Looking back over his shoulder, Chuuya scanned over Dazai with a frown. Dazai despite his best efforts, had a grimace over his face, and the chill going up his spine didn’t help the shivering.

Chuuya sighed and shook his head focusing on his food once more. He called over his shoulder “Go sit down on the couch Shitty-Dazai. And grab a damn blanket, I don’t need you getting fucking sick, cause then I’ll have to watch you.” Dazai looked at the back of Chuuya’s head for a moment before deciding it’d be best to comply, he’s to tired to fight back, well, that and a warm blanket did sound nice right about now. His container didn’t have the warm fluffy blankets that Chibi’s apartment did. All that the container had been a small cot, a thin hospital standard blanket, a stool, a light, and a small cabinet. It was really no wonder why he spent most of his time bothering Chuuya here, who would want to go back to such a place? The real surprise is how he managed to keep from getting sick in such a cold place. But never mind that, Dazai plopped himself down on the brown couch, curling the blanket laying on it around himself. It was a very calming texture, nothing like the scratchy one in his container or in Mori’s office. The lights were a bit too bright and noisy for his liking, but he wouldn’t complain, not now. This was far better than Mori’s cold, stoney, noisy yet deadly quiet, chemical smelling office back at the Mafia’s office. Dazai was so far in his head he didn’t realize Chuuya was in the room with him until he placed a bowl of noodles in his lap. Startled out of his daze, Dazai looked at Chuuya “Don’t look at me like that damnit! Just eat your food before it gets fucking cold!”

Chuuya simply turns on his tv, turning on some studio Ghibli movie, and starts to eat his own bowl of noodles. Realizing Chuuya wasn’t going to give him any more attention, Dazai picks around at the food in front of him, slowly eating some it. The noodles weren’t amazing, but they weren’t bad either. They had seasoning, but not enough to be too heavy on Dazai’s taste buds. He was grateful for that, not that he’d ever admit it out loud. Eventually Dazai finished about half the bowl before setting it down on the coffee table and curling back up into the blanket provided for him. Chuuya himself was already finished with his food, and somehow, without either noticing, the two boys had slowly inched themselves closer to each other on the couch.  Before they knew it the two were cuddled against each other, now sharing the blanket Dazai had stolen. Dazai clinged to Chuuya, his face buried in the shoulder of the other boy’s soft cotton shirt. The feeling of being held by someone he held so dear helped him to relax and bring his senses out of overdrive. They stayed there together for the rest of the night, whispering, and holding each other like it was the only thing they could do. Two souls who found comfort in each other just doing their best to care.

Notes:

Starting to write something is easy, finishing it however is not. The end is rushed cause I wanted to be done lol. I knew if I left this I'd never come back to it, so I finished it in one go.
