Work Text:

It was Thursday in Primp Town and that meant another world-ending threat. Students from school and from other places or world scattered about Primp Town, fighting Puyo battle after Puyo battle to get to the bottom of things and oust who or whatever was threatening to destroy time or space or whatever this week.

Well, most of them were. Between the shouting of spells cast and the explosions of magic around him, only broken up by the occasional shouting of someone for him to do something , Sig had made himself busy looking for bugs.

Currently, he was on the edge of town, hunched over and observing an ant colony he had been journaling about the past few days. They seemed to be having a food crisis lately and, though he tried to only observe, he couldn’t just leave them to die and so had set a bread bun a few feet away from their hill.

“Sig!” A voice cried, dragged down by its own exhaustion. Still, Sig recognized it as Amitie without even needing to turn around.

“Hey, Amitie.” A pause as he thought what to say next. “What’s up?”

“Ghost-animal things! They’re all green and cloudy and they’re everywhere and they go GRAAAHHH when they’re near you!” She did her best to imitate the beast’s ferocious roars, but Sig decided it compared more to a goat bleating. He also saw her now and decided she looked less like Amitie and more like a mess.

Amitie’s fluffy hair was going everywhere, only kept on her head by the twigs tangled in it. Her skin was marred with dirt and her knees were scraped. Her arms were bruised and she even had a cut or two on them. She had definitely been fighting her share of Puyo battles.

“You haven’t had to deal with them, have you?” Amitie asked.

Sig shook his head. “There was one. I was busy. It left me and the ants alone.”

Amitie looked up at the tree Sig was crouched next to. Carefully and deliberately cut into it was a clover-like sigil. The same she wore on her hoodie. Some powerful, ancient Arcan scriving, according to Ms. Accord. Maybe it had the power to keep those beasts at bay.

“You don’t look great,” Sig said. “Lie down.”

Amitie started to protest, that she needed to get back out there and help people, but her legs protested as she tried to walk. They buckled under her and she realized her entire body was shaking like she was freezing in the summer heat. Still, she insisted, “I’m fiiiine,” in a weak voice.

“Lie down,” Sig repeated, and so Amitie yielded. With her head rested against the tree like a wooden pillow, she drifted off to sleep.

And, with a glance to the ants to make sure they were getting along fine, he went to work.

Sig was nothing if not prepared. In his pouch he made sure to stock some bandages and cleaning wipes-- those would do just fine against the mud and cuts. He took some more time disentangling the twigs from her hair and patting it all back into place. Amitie had a certain look to her and he was so careful to make it alright that consideration to not causing her pain was unneeded. And then he made sure to set her beanie properly in place, just to make Amitie the perfect picture of herself once again. It just felt wrong to have her looking so beaten like that.

And then, with about ten minutes of rest, Amitie popped back up like she had caffeine shot right into her veins. Sig was right where she left him, looking over those ants and scribbling into his journal like he always did. A short stretching session and a shout goodbye later, Amitie was ready to take on the world again.

Not only was her energy back, but she was less sore, it felt like her cuts were healing, and that icky feeling of the mud was gone too!

Maybe Sig was onto something with all his naps after all.
