Vin vs korra

Work Text:

Republic City- Night

Republic City lets off a faint glow under the full moon, the sky painted a crimson shade as a thick mist settled on the city. A woman in a gray, long-sleeved shirt and black pants strolled down an alley with her face to the ground, her bare feet slapping softly against the cold concrete. Her walk was abruptly ended as a trio of large, muscular men stood at the exit of the alley, eyeing her with evil intentions. She refused to even acknowledge them with a look, meekly replying,

VIN VENTURE
"I don't want any trouble."

THUG 1
(Chuckled)
"Good, and neither do we. Just give up your coins and we'll be on our way."

Vin slowly raised her head, looking up from under her brow at them with a smile

VIN
, "As you wish."

Vin took a coin between her thumb and forefinger, flicking her thumb and shooting the coin at the man. The coin soared like a bullet, striking the man in the eye and blasting out the back of his head. His comrades looked on in shock at his corpse and ignored the woman as she stood up straight, revealing the flailing tassels on her attire. They took notice of her only when a wisp of wind caught their attention, the remaining duo looking up to find the woman plummeting at them with a quarterstaff. She slammed it over the crown of the skull of one of them, the staff carving a divot into his skull that displaced his eyes and gave his head the appearance of a crushed can. The final man stumbled back in terror, stammering,

THUG 2
"Look, lady, it was just a joke! Don't hurt me!"

Vin responded by shooting the end of her staff into his stomach, knocking the air from his lungs and doubling him over. She followed up by taking the staff in both hands and batting him over the ear, knocking his head to the side before shooting the opposite end up into his face, rocking him back. She took the staff over her shoulder like a bat and took him off his feet with a swing at his ankles. The man brought his hands up before his face for mercy, Vin readied to finish him off as another woman called out,

KORRA SILHOUETTE
"Hey!"

Vin lowered her staff, she and the man looking back down the alley to find a cross-armed woman in waterbender attire, looking on shouting,

KORRA
"Look, I get these creeps were trying to mug you but we've got laws for a reason, lady. You can't just take the law into your own hands.
(makes hand gestures)
I'm giving you one chance, step away from the idiot."

Vin stared at her for some time, tightening her grip on her staff

VIN
"No."

Vin turned and slammed her staff over the man's head, blood spewing from his cracked skull.

KORRA
(Mutters to herself)
"Alright, so I see this is how we're doing things then."

Korra cracks her knuckles as she approaches Vin

FIGHT!

Both fighters rush eachother, Vin twirls her staff reading to swing it at Korra, but just before she can Korra comes to a stop stomping her foot on the ground causing a column of rock to launch up salming into Vin’s gut sending her back, slamming into a wall

VIN
(Grunts in pain)

Korra smirks at the surprise shown on Vin’s face. Korra follows up by earthbending a torso sized rock from the ground and fires it at her. Vin quickly dodges the rock grabbing a few coins from the pouch on her side, flinging them like bullets at Korra. Korra avoids them, but one of the coins grazes her cheek

KORRA
(Surprised)
“Woah! That’s a pretty fast hand you got there.”
(gestures to herself)
“But sadly not fast enough to take me down”

Korra charges at Vin expecting her to metal bend or earthbend but instead Vin charges at Korra. Both ready to strike each other, but Korra halts.

KORRA
(Inner thoughts)
‘Wait, she’s rushing me?

Korra’s eyes were wide, overwhelmed by an extreme sense of dread just before Vin’s quarterstaff slams into Korra's face sending her head snapping back being followed up by a strike to her thigh and shoulder and finally a kick to her gut

KORRA
(Strained)
“Arrgh!

Korra is sent out of the alley and into the streets. Korra was shocked and surprised at how she froze like that, but as she gets up her face is met with a swift blow from Vin’s staff causing Korra to get launched into the wall of a nearby building

VIN
(Sarcastically)
“You sure YOU’RE not too slow?”

Vin prepared to follow up her attack, but Korra got a grip on herself blasting Vin back with a burst of wind

VIN
(Landing back first on the ground)
“Oww…”

Korra landed on her feet glaring at Vin who was shocked by that attack. Vin slowly rises to her feet.

VIN
“What the Hell was that!?”

KORRA
“That was just a taste. I’ve got plenty more where that came from.”

Korra smirked at the startled Vin before firing a blast of fire at her. Vin responds quickly somehow pulling herself back to a street lamp correcting herself and looking at Korra in shock before launching herself off the street lamp onto the roofs.

KORRA
(agitated)
“Grrh. Get back here you coward!”

VIN
(Inner thoughts)
‘Ok Vin, think. She can somehow use rock, air, and fire, but doesn't seem to have other allomantic powers or how to protect against them...sooo’

Vin continued her roof hoping before spotting two trains passing by.

VIN
(smugs, cont. Inner thoughts)
‘I'm pretty sure she’s not a thug either, so let’s see how well she can keep up!’

Vin leaps pulling herself to the train just as a rock smashes into the roof she was on. Just as Vin landed on the train car she looks behind her, Korra somersaulting from the same roof as her. Right before landing, Korra’s extended foot ignites in a fiery blaze as it comes closer to Vin.

KORRA
“AAARRRGH!”

Vin dodges and gives herself some distance between her and Korra. Korra’s foot meets the roof of the train car with flames spreading in every direction. The two face each other, separated by the train car's length. Korra stances herself

KORRA
(Takes a deep breathe)

She begins to punch forward sending fireballs at Vin, Vin leaps to the side and off the train car, Korra continues to launch fire at Vin, Vin extends her hand and pulls herself through the window of the train car, Korra remains in her stance while walking towards the center of the train car.

(Window smashing behind Korra)
Vin grabs at the roof of the train car and launches herself into a flying kick stance, Korra is unable to react quickly and Vin’s foot connects with her stomach knocking her towards the front of the train car. Before Korra is able to fully stand Vin returns to the inside of the train car. This continues for several more strikes with korra becoming more irritated and angered with each strike.

KORRA
“Oh Come On!!! We’re seriously doing this right now!”

(The door to the train car smashes open behind her)
Korra turns around and looks over the opened door, but Vin isn’t down there, Korra turns back around to face the vacant rooftop.

KORRA
“Alright, that’s it! Hide ‘n Seek time is OVER!”
(Korra says this while squatting down to grab the roof)
Korra grabs the roof of the train car, using her metal bending she lifts as much of the roof as she can before jerking down causing a wave effect that tears the roof from the train car stretching to the other end,

KORRA
“Now there's nowhere for you to run you lit-”
Korra blinked in confusion looking around the train car only to see it was empty, she turns around to see the train cars in front of her were getting farther away leaving only the one she was on and the one still connected on the other side, Korra gritted her teeth

KORRA
“That little rat! She thinks she can hit and run? Let’s try and see her do it with her legs broken!”
Just as she was about to jump after her opponent, she felt the train car lurch causing her to stumble a bit. When she regained her footing she saw the car Vin was standing on was moving farther away, slowing quickly while her car sped up.

Vin
Vin smiled, giving her a curt wave as she watches the train car slam into the bend of the rail-track. Rather than turning the train car slams into the curve and jerks out and to the side, the wheels of the train spraying dirt and broken metal up and into the air while the car rolled over and pitched down, into the ground at all speed. The metal of the speeding car screams in protest as it rolls and crumples, while Vin’s train car simply slows to a stop just ahead of the ruined bend Vin jumps down landing in front of the train wreck.

Vin
“I may not be an artist but that was beautiful, if I do say so myself.”

Vin looked at the remains of the crushed train car admiring her work before giving a nod before she turned and started walking away getting out a vial of metal and downing it to replenish her energy supplies. As she did the train car behind her began to shake and rumble, metal groaning quietly as it shifted and lifted. Before being launched at Vin her eyes widen in surprise and then narrow in agitation as she jumps aside, pulling herself to safety on a nearby ship, she looked at the hole in the train wreck, her eyes narrowing further as Korra stepped out cracking her knuckles and neck.

Korra
“You know, it's rude to rail and run like that. At least let me do you back if you won’t buy me dinner first.”

Korra smirked, rolling her neck until it popped before stomping her foot and turning sharply, launching more parts of the train car at Vin and forcing her to evade and dodge up, down and in between rocketing slabs and shards of metal. Each shot and round prods the smaller, strange woman to the side, towards the edge of the train she’d leapt to and, most importantly, towards the docks. And the water waiting there for the Avatar’s plan.

Finally, as Vin was forced to leap up and over a massive train wheel that crushed the car she’d been standing on, Korra smirked. Vin’s feet hit the ground and she rose, back to the docks, ready for the next round of metal barraging her. A round that never came, the smaller woman looking up to see the dark skinned woman’s smirk and little else as Korra slid forward and into a new, more fluid stance.

Vin
“What's wrong? You were actually getting somewhere approaching near me towards the end, there.”

Vin didn't smile, though. Instead she watched the women closely, barbing her to try and get a reaction from her. Some kind of tell. Instead, silent and still smiling, Korra slid forward and turned on a heel, hands working through the air. When she saw her move, Vin lurched forward, hands coming up and sweeping back and to the side, ready to attack or defend an then attack.

Mid jump something blew through the bottom of the dock and warped around Vin, wrenching her back and down, and nearly to the knees. To her horror and surprise it was water, wrapped around her leg and chest like the tendrils of some aquatic monster. As the water expanded, and tightened its grip, Vin struggled to stay standing and to get free. Slowly, the water spindled up and coiled around her neck and then, suddenly, her head. Then, with a push of weight that threw her up, off her feet, the water ballooned out into a great bubble that encased her, head to toe.

Korra
“Well then, let’s see how long you can hold your breath. Bolin’s record is right about ten minutes. Bet you can beat it, though, tough as you are. Or hey, just konk out for me so we can head on to jail. I got places to be.”

Korra cocked her hips and watched as Vin struggled to swim, glaring hate through the water while her mouth worked silently in the bubble, But anywhere she tried to go, Korra just moved the bubble. She was hoping for Vin to run out of air, soon. Finally, Vin curled inwards, hands shaking as her eyes squeezed shut and she went mostly still.

“Huh, it looks like all you need was a cool bath to get you to cool off-”

Before Korra could finish, Vin was rocked out of the bubble towards Korra like an Otter-Penguin running from an Unagi. Just as she was about to react she felt a spike of fear as Vin got closer, eyes hard and full of hate.

“What the he-”
Before she could finish Vin’s feet collided with Korra's face at something approaching the speed of lightning. The dull, wet crunch of her nose breaking echoed in Korra's head as she was launched back and into a pile of crates by the sheer force of the blow. Groaning in the rubble, Korra pressed a hand to her face and grimaced as it came away wet and red. Instead of fear, though, she only got angry.

And excited, a bloody smirk breaking out across her face as her adrenaline kicked into high gear.

Korra
“Now we’re talking…”

While Korra smiled like a rabid dog and forced herself upright, Vin only scowled. The other woman was bleeding all over the ground, and had been put through a dozen metal-reinforced shipping crates, and now she was smiling?

Vin
“You know, I've fought some horrid freaks in my land... But even they weren't pathetic enough to try and drown someone like that. “

Korra
“To be fair, I was just trying to get you to pass out.”

Vin
“That’s… Even worse.”

Korra
“Hey, I just wanted to toss you in a cell.”
Korra pauses for a second before sighing and blinking, one hand brushing the blood off her chin aside.
“Yeah, I, uh, didn’t think about that one. Can we start hitting each other again now?”

Vin sighed and shook her head before ducking low and rushing at Korra in response. Korra spun and leapt back and up, onto a crate while the metal-reinforced shards launched toward her opponent. Vin twisted and turned as they came, almost dancing through them and the gouts of flame Korra added to the mix, trying desperately to fend the strange woman off. Still she pressed on, steadily closing with the woman while Korra was pushed back, scowling at the old wall of the warehouse behind her.

Snarling through blood teeth, she turned slammed her fist into the wall, sending cracks spider webbing all along its surface. Digging her fingers into its stone and mortar she turned, launching the entirety of it at vin in a cluster of story sized slabs. In shock Vin leapt back and pulled on whatever metal was nearest her, pulling her to the side to dodge it.

She managed to pull herself back, nearly to the train car she’d been atop minutes previously but not before getting clipped by the wall’s debris as it came down. Stone, steel and mortar exploded and she was hurled back and into the car, screaming in pain as she yanked herself to the side and away from the worst of it. She soared towards what she had pulled and slammed into an ornately marked crate.

Leaning against it she forced herself up, her front bloodied from a handful of lacerations and one spike of stone that had buried itself shallowly in her side. It wasn’t a dangerous wound but it hurt, and that made the woman growl as her body twitched in pain. Using the crate for balance and one hand to fan the dust out of her face she turned an eye on the crate and blinked at the letters and sigils there.

Then, she smiled.

Korra
“Well.”
Korra smirked, standing and wiping the sticky, drying blood off her face.
“Guess that settles that, then. I hope she’s not dead, though… Asami would kill me for bringing her this kind of head- Ack!”

The glint of steel caught her eye and she snarled, spinning on a heel and bringing her arms up to either side. The wall of stone, fronted by the concrete of the street, slammed up and into place. Then something plowed through it and into her shoulder, slamming her back and through a row of the same reinforced crates the warehouse used. And then into the far wall, a dozen yards out, which cracked under the force of her impact.

The wall wasn’t the only thing to crack either, judging from the agony that flared all along her shoulder and ribs.

Vin
“Oh don't worry about me, I’ve faced far worse than some asinine little street cretin that thinks she can match me in a fight.”

Korra
“I’m sorry, do you have any idea who I am?”

Vin
“Hopefully not right handed?”

“Right…?”
Smiling, Vin raised her right hand and waved, and Korra turned an eye on her still burning shoulder. Instead of her arm, a wide span of silver-edged, black steel stretched out from the wall. Korra blinked and staggered to the side and, to her shock and spreading fear, she didn’t feel any resistance from the arm the sword had plowed through on its way.

All she felt was cold air and red hot agony, blooming out from her shattered shoulder as she hissed a breath in, through her teeth.

Vin
“Now that you’ve been suitably disarmed, I strongly suggest you surrender, girl. First and only chance.”

Korra
“I…”
She whispered, looking at the bloodied hunk of bone and muscle where her arm had been.
“I…”

Vin
“Yes?”

Korra
“I’ll end you!”
The woman suddenly snapped, glaring towards Vin with baleful eyes that swiftly were overtaken by an ethereal blue hue.

Vins eyes narrowed in apprehension before widening in horror as she watched Korra’s entire body shift into the same hue and continue warping, changing into a massive giant of glowing blue energy as she once again leapt back and onto the ruined train car she’d been on earlier. As she landed she felt as sharp pain on the side of her head, hand snapping up as the earring in her ear was ripped out, threading bloodily through her fingers. With it went all the metal in the vicinity, even the more distant ships ebbing in towards them. Swearing under her breath, Vin leapt up as the train car was pulled out from under her.

And towards the glowing woman standing across from her, amid the floating wreckage of the warehouse and the train.

Korra

“You don't know me?! Fine! Then let me show you what the avatar can do by painting the damn street with you!”

As the words ended, Korra reared back and roared, blue light bursting forth from between her lips and consuming her. Vin watched, eyes wide and mouth gaping slightly, as the woman bloomed into a great, massive thing she couldn’t identify. (Her Spirit Giant form)

Bellowing, the massive spirit form of Korra began to attack in full force, hurling hunks of building, street, train, crate and even small ships, shattered by the force of her fury, at Vin like so much grapeshot. Still, Vin could evade it, ducking and threading her way through while the other woman tried very hard to kill her, now. Vin knew that for a fact, the intent was more than palpable in the air.

She could taste it, almost.

Dodging and thinking, she worked her Atium to seek out the source of the attacks. But as she burned her way through it, she felt her reserves stop depleting. Soon she could see mist rolling in around them amidst the debris and smoke, and then thickening. She could feel them feeding into her as the Mists burned, fuelling her power. Again, her hand found her bloodied ear and she smiled.

All it took to lose a fight was one mistake…

Even if the ‘Avatar’ couldn’t have hoped to have known it.

Roaring and ignorant of Vin’s plan, Korra continued her attacking, pelting the area she’d seen the woman in last in debris. Soon, though, her Avatar State melded eyes saw the woman, darting through the attacks and rushing towards her Spirit Form. Korra brought a hand down, slamming stone and steel into her, but Vin rolled forward under it and turned, hurling steel right back up at her. Effortlessly, Korra batted the attack aside and brought her arm back, intent to crush the woman under another tide of debris that rose up behind her like the ocean’s great waves.

As she did, Vin’s hand snapped out and up, right towards Korra’s physical form. Behind her, unbeknownst to the young Avatar, the black blade swirled in the air and then stopped and wobbled. Then, suddenly, it shot in and down, towards her back. As it came Vin turned her hand and the sword match, turning flat on as it neared her back.

Then, with her other hand, Vin simply snapped her fingers.

The sound echoed around and into Korra’s head as… Something strangled her anger and pain. Crushed it down, into a box, and then locked it away. With it she felt the power of the Avatar State, fuelled by those same emotions, ebb away. Inside a heartbeat, something heavy slammed into her back and she felt herself launched forward, slamming into the ground hard enough to sunder the rock under her.

Vin
“Avatar, huh?”
Vin asked, watching the woman push herself up on her good hand, turning a confused look on her as her chest heaved.

Korra
“W-What did you… Do?”

Then, the weight slammed down again and Korra cried out, pressed into the ground. Over her good shoulder, she could see the blade, laid across her and holding her down. It wasn’t so large she couldn’t have moved it but, when she tried to push it off, it pushed back. Pinning her down and keeping her there while her bloodied opponent stood over her, feet to either side of her head and eyes hard.

Vin
“Don’t bother.”
She smiled, one hand held towards her, palm down. Like the sword, Korra realized, eyes widening ever so slightly.
“I see you figured it out… So you’re not that dim.”

Korra
“F-Fuck you.”
Korra growled, pushing up in spite of the pain that flared through her entire body at the action.
“I’m... The Avatar… You think you can beat me? I-I represent the spirit world-”

At that vin frowned deeply her eye twitch a bit in anger at the word spirit

Vin
“Spirits... So you're a self proclaimed god just like him? Someone who thinks because they’re powerful they can decide everyone’s fate?”

Vin’s tone was cold and deadly, the sword applying more pressure as she spoke, strangling off whatever words Korra could muster in response.

“I have something to ask, Avatar.”

Her Tone was cold but Korra’s gaze was hot when it landed on her, narrow eyed and grunting from the strain of the sword’s weight.

“What is a god to a non-believer?”

Before Korra could even react Vin flared her Pewter and Duralumin as hard as she could salming her fist down on korra's head splattering vin and the dock in blood vins betheing as calm and controlled but her eyes ruthless and hateful. Turning to leave, she tossed her own answer over a shoulder.

“A myth.”
