Work Text:
KYLE ADORES hearing you laugh. When someone makes a joke and he hears the warning hitch of your breath before you break out in a smile and begin to lose it. It always draws his attention if he’s across the room, his head turning towards the beautiful noise leaving your chest and he’s greeted with the warm sight of you doubling over, your hands on your knees as Soap makes a funny joke. Kyle watches the way your eyes nearly close from how wide you’re grinning, and he’s too far away to see but he’s sure there’s tears in your eyes. It blooms such a warm, fuzzy feeling in his sternum that spreads like gooey honey, dripping down to his gut until his entire body is humming with adoration for you. Kyle loves hearing your voice.
He sits down on your bed as you pace in your barracks, putting clean clothes and uniforms away in your closet and drawers, rambling about whatever you had been thinking about that time. His fingers fidget in his lap, his brown eyes glued to you as you walk back and forth, and Kyle can’t help but fondly wonder if you’ve taken a breath between your words. An adoring smile pulls at the corner of his lips as your voice raises without you realizing it. Besides hearing you rant, he feels like a bit guilty but Kyle also likes hearing your voice when you’re upset. Whether you’re angry and there’s a grit coming from your chest, or maybe your voice cracks and your breath hitches in your throat.
Kyle hated when you were upset, yes, but he could not help the feeling of his chest tightening when you trusted him enough to be vulnerable. Every chord that comes from you, it doesn’t matter the volume of your voice, as long as it’s yours, he would listen forever. He hears your voice in his favorite songs and in his dreams, Kyle loves hearing your morning voice when you murmur “good morning” when you both wake up early enough to get a cuppa. Your yawns that end in a small noise, the way you can’t help the laugh that bubbles from your throat when he accidentally spills water all over himself in the morning, unaware it’s because he was focusing on your voice instead of the task at hand. Kyle can’t stand the thought of never hearing your voice again, so there’s quite a few videos of you on his phone, and maybe a few voice memos he saved to listen to when you go on leave at a different time than him.
