Rain loves so many things about P’Phayu. The way he treats Rain like a precious object and listens to Rain ramble on even when he has had a long day. The way he teases Rain. The way he is there for Rain whenever Rain needs a shoulder to cry on. Even the way he is stern with Rain when he steps out of line. He also loves P’Phayu’s sexy body and the way he knows every spot that will take Rain apart and make him into a blubbering mess. He loves falling asleep with his head on P’Phayu’s chest listening to his boyfriend’s heartbeat too.
It’s the last thing that has created a problem for Rain. He loves it so much but now he can’t fall asleep unless it’s to the sound of P’Phayu’s heartbeat. That means when his boyfriend is forced to go on business trips Rain ends up with many sleepless nights. The last time P’Phayu went on a business trip for a week and Rain only managed a few hours of restless sleep every night where he would pass out from exhaustion and wake up early in their cold bed. He had wanted nothing more than to pamper P’Phayu when he came home, but he was so sleep deprived by that point he ended up falling asleep in P’Phayu’s chest within the first fifteen minutes of the movie they were watching. All his plans of being the best boyfriend P’Phayu could return home to flying out the window.
He had made up an excuse about needing to turn in some assignments and pulling an all nighter with Sky. P’Phayu had laughed and said Rain was cute sleeping but Rain had still felt awful about it.
He decided to talk to Sky about it, ask what he does when P’Pai goes on business trips.
“Sometimes we talk on the phone until I fall asleep.” Sky tells him. “If I have a nightmare it seems to help.”
Rain isn’t sure what to say about that, he knows Sky sometimes has nightmares because of what happened to him, but he usually doesn’t like to talk about it.
“P’Phayu and I do that sometimes too.” Rain says. “It helps but I miss his heartbeat.” Rain is a little embarrassed to admit it, but Sky doesn’t laugh at him, he just gives him a sympathetic nod.
“Why don’t you try recording it?” Sky asks.
“I can do that?” Rain asks.
“You just need a digital stethoscope. It’s one of the products P’Pai’s company makes, they have contracts with hospitals around the world. I could ask him to get you one if you like.” Sky says.
“Would you?” Rain asks.
“If you buy me ice cream in return.” Sky says.
Rain giggles, his friend always wants ice cream in return for favors. He wonders if that’s how P’Pai won him over, with food.
As promised Sky gets him a digital stethoscope, one that records straight to his phone. Once he has it he tells P’Phayu what he wants and why.
“Why didn’t you tell me you were having trouble sleeping, naughty boy?” P’Phayu says.
“Well, I didn’t want to worry you. Will you do this for me please?” Rain asks.
“Of course, if you think it will help.” P’Phayu tells him. They spend hours playing with the stethoscope and making recordings of each other’s heartbeats. P’Phayu doesn’t have the same problem as Rain but he has decided it would still be nice to have that connection when they have to be away from each other.
The next time P’Phayu has to go on a business trip Rain takes a relaxing bath, speaks to his boyfriend on the phone for a little while, then sets the recording he made up on a loop. He sleeps deeply that night listening to the sound of P’Phayu’s heartbeat.
