Work Text:
Hanzo wasn’t entirely sure what the fuss was about. Even when they were younger, he really didn’t understand halloween – not that he had any good opportunities to enjoy it fully in his childhood anyway.
The few times they were allowed to dress he had been matching with his brother. And it had to be suitable, making him look longingly at the outfits other people his age got to wear. He had buried those silly childhood fantasies so long ago.
However, to see Jesse get this excited about it was infatuating. He was absolutely adorable going on long rambles around how he had dressed up as his favorite characters as a child, and the absolute glee over his face… Yeah, Hanzo particularly loved that. He could listen to Jesse ramble about Halloween for hours, if it meant he got to watch that pure innocent joy take over his face. Jesse was usually buried under many layers of worries and obligations, hiding behind his cheerful easy-going cowboy charade.
Yet, out of everything else Jesse was charming for, this was something that touched Hanzo's heart. He didn’t often see Jesse like this.
Somehow Hanzo had ended up in the closest mall with Jesse, browsing through different kinds of costumes to get for the upcoming party. He had tried on the wolf hat, it looked cool, but he could already feel it would be hot to wear in his head for hours.
When Jesse had joked they could go as an angel and a devil, he had automatically assumed he would be the devil. As well as his brother Genji had when commenting from the next table over at lunch that he’d fit as one with his villain eyebrows. And the goatee. It was always the goatee wasn't it?
And yet… Here they were, Jesse wearing a cape with horns on his head… offering Hanzo an outfit – well cupid was sort of an angel wasn’t it?
"What about this one?” Jesse asked, smiling wide. As if the outfit he held was the most innocent thing. Something Hanzo could actually wear.
It was not that bad at first glance, sure it looked like a dress, with cute pink wings on the back. When he realized it had no proper pants it made his cheek feel hot. Of course it made sense for cupid, but not for someone like him.
The worst part was… Hanzo actually considered it. The outfit looked cute. The blush on his face only deepened as his deeper desires surfaced. Perhaps explaining why he never was fond of matching with Genji as a child.
He never got to wear something cute like this.
It took some time, Hanzo longingly looking at the garment, yet refusing to even take it in his hand let alone try it on. Excuses why he absolutely shouldn't wear something like that, dropping from his lips in a reluctant note. He didn't even realize Jesse was listening carefully, almost as if he was talking to himself rather than to Jesse.
Finally Jesse realized what was up, smirked then turned around and started going towards the counter.
“Jesse, wait!” Hanzo yelped, placing the outfit he had been looking back on the counter, rushing after Jesse.
“Oh, we’re takin’ this one, pardner,” Jesse told him, chuckling, still wearing the outfit he was trying on.
‘Oh no… no no no!’
“No!” Hanzo shouted and ran after Jesse, who was smiling the widest smile. Jesse rushed his feet, not wanting this chance to slip for Hanzo.
This halloween would be the best one.
