Chapter Text

Deep breaths, Jeon Heejin. Deep breaths.

“We have 20 minutes before the video call event starts at the Geureum Café. After that we’re going straight to the broadcast station for your radio show guesting at 6pm and then head to Studio B for your next comeback stage performance.”

“Okay.” Heejin mumbles, sleep still evident in her eyes.

This was just a typical comeback season for Heejin – the TV and radio show guestings, fansign events, comeback stages and more. She mindlessly stares outside her van, rubbing her eyes while her manager continues to list down all her upcoming schedules for the week.

She wasn’t complaining though. All of this was something she worked hard for, for almost 5 years. Back then, she had to audition countless times before she even got signed to a company, or to get a role or a spot in a CF and now, everything is basically offered to her on a silver platter.

She has indeed become South Korea’s Sweetheart, and she will always be grateful for that.

However, there are days like this where she feels low and out of it. It was only the second week of her comeback season and she’s already feeling sluggish. She yawns for the nth time, eyes still trained outside.

“Don’t forget, you have a doctor’s appointment tomorrow at 8am before we head to that cooking show guesting of yours and- Heejin, are you even listening?” The slight rise in her tone snaps Heejin from her momentary stupor and flashes an apologetic smile towards her manager who has now put down her iPad on her lap.

“I’m sorry Jinsoul unnie, I’m just really exhausted today.” She tries her best to muster a sheepish grin, feeling sorry for the woman in front of her. Jinsoul, who has been her manager since her debut, has always worked hard alongside her and kept her schedules and all other matters in order.

Jinsoul heaves a deep sigh, letting her shoulders drop and her back finally resting on the soft cushioned leather of the van. It has been a hectic week for their team, especially for Heejin. She has barely gotten any sleep and has been traveling from schedule to schedule.

“It’s okay, Heekie. Only three more weeks of promotions and then you get to go on that two-month break Ms. Ha promised you.” Jinsoul reassuringly says. “And I, on the other hand, get to finally go to Jeju with my girlfriend after so many cancellations.”

Heejin chuckles at this. It took them a while to be able to get her to have an actual break all these years. Sooyoung, their CEO, has always been kind and generous towards her. But she was also focused on making Heejin a top star, and so they all had to work tirelessly to get to where she is right now.

And that’s more than she can ask for.

“Yeah, we ought to be separated for a bit somehow, unnie. How else would I know you’ll miss me if I wasn’t around?” Heejin teases. Jinsoul has always been a serial worrier, especially when it comes to her.

But they make a good team – her amazing all-around talents and impeccable work ethic, along with Jinsoul’s keen attention to detail and great managing skills – they were unstoppable. After all, she wouldn’t be the top star that she is now if they weren’t.

“And that was our number one, most requested song for since its release last month; the title track from her 5 th anniversary album of the same name – ladies and gentledudes, that was ‘Paint the Town’ by Nation’s Sweetheart, the amazing, the one and only Jeon Heejin!” The studio fills in with the sound effects of clapping as the DJ himself claps enthusiastically, the song fading into the background.

Heejin couldn’t help but smile, her heart swelling with pride from the beautiful words for praise.

“Thank you so much, Key Oppa and thank you for inviting me here today.” She utters sweetly into the microphone in front of her.

This was her last radio show guesting for the entire promotion period of her album, so Heejin wants to give her best energy as she closes up her activities with her last two events.

“First, I wanted to congratulate you for your fourth consecutive win on our charts, and for sweeping up awards at all the music shows you’ve been in! And so with that we have a little surprise for you from us and from your beloved Tokkis” DJ Key suddenly stands up from his chair and starts to sing a congratulatory song and wheels out a 3-tier bunny-themed cake, with a ‘Congratulations, Jeon Heejin’ scribbled in bright pink icing.

Her heart swells with affection and gratefulness, her eyes brimming with tears as she hears the voices of her fans from outside the studio, cheering and yelling their congratulations.

She closes her eyes for a brief moment, her wishes uttered in her mind before blowing on the lit candles atop her congratulatory cake as if it was a birthday cake - well, it might as well be one since it feels like one.

“And don’t forget, Heejin will be having a surprise event on her last week of promotions. What the event will be, well, it’s a SURPRISE!” Key closes the show with the announcement.

After the usual photo-taking sessions and short interview with the DJ, Heejin finally boards their company van to head to her final schedule and is looking forward to her last activity before her long-awaited break.

Heejin leaned back against the cushioned seat, her eyes half-lidded from exhaustion. Jinsoul, her manager and confidante, flashed a reassuring smile.

"Just a bit more, Heejin. You're almost there," Jinsoul encouraged, her voice a gentle lullaby amidst the urban symphony.

Heejin managed a tired smile, nodding. "Yeah, just a bit more." She could almost taste the upcoming 2-month hiatus, a sweet promise of rest and recuperation.

As Heejin's last week of promotions dawned, the anticipation for the surprise event reached a fever pitch. Excitement hummed in the air like an electrifying charge, and a growing crowd had gathered in anticipation of Heejin's surprise event. There was an unmistakable buzz of excitement, a palpable energy that drew fans from all corners of the city to the designated venue.

As the minutes ticked away, fans chatted animatedly, their voices filled with a sense of camaraderie. They wore t-shirts and carried banners adorned with Heejin's name and her latest single's lyrics. Some even had cardboard cutouts of their beloved idol, clutching them tightly like talismans.

The fans' chatter ranged from eager speculations about what the surprise event would entail to fond reminiscences of their favorite Heejin moments. They shared stories of their journeys to become part of Heejin's fandom, Tokkis, a testament to the close-knit community that had formed around the artist.

Their enthusiasm was infectious, and the crowd swayed like a living entity. Every once in a while, a ripple of cheers and applause passed through the gathering, carried away by the excitement that coursed through the crowd. The anticipation was akin to waiting for a grand spectacle to begin, and the fans couldn't contain their excitement.

As the sun dipped lower in the sky, casting an enchanting golden hue over the event venue, Heejin's sleek black car pulled up at the entrance. The crowd of excited fans erupted in cheers as she stepped out, radiating star power. Heejin beamed as she made her way to the stage, waving at her fans and sending them heartfelt air kisses. The crowd's energy was infectious, and she couldn't help but feel a surge of excitement herself.

Once she reached the stage, Heejin stood before the sea of her adoring fans, and the cheers only grew louder. She brought her hand to her heart and mouthed the words "I love you" to them, causing an eruption of euphoria.

"Thank you, thank you!" Heejin called out, her voice filled with genuine warmth. "I can't express how much your love and support mean to me. It's been an incredible journey, and I couldn't have done it without each and every one of you."

She paused for a moment, letting her gratitude wash over the crowd. "So, are you ready for a little surprise?" Heejin asked, and the crowd's response was deafening.

The stagehands wheeled a massive glass tank onto the stage, its transparency reflecting the warm hues of the setting sun. A slot on the side of the tank caught the fans' attention, and Heejin, with a playful twinkle in her eyes, addressed them once more.

"This is the surprise, Tokkis," Heejin declared with a sly grin. "We're going to make this moment unforgettable for one of you lucky fans."

She held up a piece of paper, waving it in the air. "I want all of you to write down your phone numbers on this paper, and don't worry, we'll keep it secure. Then, we'll place all the papers inside this glass tank." The anticipation in the crowd was palpable as they leaned in, eager to participate.

"Here's the best part," Heejin continued, her smile lighting up the stage. "One of you will have the chance for a videocall and a dinner date with me!" The crowd roared with excitement, their cheers filling the venue.

Heejin's laughter rang out, pure and joyful, as she reveled in the infectious energy of her fans. "I can't wait to meet the lucky winner! Let's make this night unforgettable, Tokkis!" The fans eagerly accepted the challenge, their hearts brimming with excitement for the incredible opportunity ahead.

Meanwhile, not far from the commotion, a certain young baker bustled about in her quaint bakery, surrounded by the warm scent of freshly baked bread. With flour-dusted hands and an apron wrapped around her, Kim Jiwoo moved gracefully around the bakery, her deft hands expertly kneading a batch of dough while humming a soft, melodic tune. Her small but cozy bakery was a labor of love, known for its mouthwatering pastries, aromatic coffees, and tranquil ambiance.

Jiwoo, with her apron adorned with a bright sun emblem, had always been the embodiment of sunshine to her friends, family, and even her customers. Her cheerful disposition was infectious, and she had an uncanny ability to brighten anyone's day with her smiles and laughter.

As she worked on the delicate pastries, she couldn't help but notice the distant commotion coming from outside. A curious furrow of her brow was paired with a whimsical smile, a mix of curiosity and hope. The tinkling bells above her bakery's entrance had been particularly active lately, thanks to the nearby event.

"I wonder what's going on out there," Jiwoo mused aloud to herself, her curiosity piqued. She wiped her flour-dusted hands on her apron, a fine white powder dusting her already sun-kissed skin. The heady scent of freshly baked goods enveloped her, wrapping her in a comforting cocoon of warmth.

Leaving the dough to rest, Jiwoo stepped outside and tilted her head, trying to catch a glimpse of the gathering crowd nearby. Her soft laugh escaped her lips as she couldn't make out the details from her vantage point, and she imagined the commotion was due to some local festival or celebration.

"I hope it's something exciting," she said, a glimmer of optimism dancing in her eyes. Jiwoo knew that any event nearby had the potential to bring new faces to her beloved bakery, and she couldn't help but feel a surge of hope. She brushed a strand of her wavy, sunflower-yellow hair behind her ear and returned to her dough, fingers working with practiced ease.

♠ ♠ ♠ ♠ ♠

It’s the day following the surprise event. Inside the stylish penthouse apartment, Jinsoul had set up the live-streaming equipment. The star herself was seated at the center of the room, the radiant sun streaming through the large windows behind her, enhancing her aura of warmth and charm.

The event had been a thrilling success, with Heejin excitedly sharing moments of her life with her loyal fans, the Tokkis. She couldn't help but feel overwhelmed by the immense love and support she received from them.

"Heejin, are you ready for the draw?" Jinsoul inquired, adjusting the camera angle to ensure that Heejin would be perfectly framed. The artist's heart raced with anticipation, even as she flashed a dazzling smile for the camera.

"I'm ready, Soul. Let's make this special for one of our Tokkis," Heejin replied, her eyes shimmering with enthusiasm. She leaned over to the ornate glass bowl placed on the table in front of her. Inside, dozens of folded pieces of paper that were narrowed down by her team (you would not believe the sheer mountain of entries they had to go through) bearing various phone numbers swirled like confetti.

The bowl filled with slips of paper was placed before her, each one a potential connection to a fan. Heejin's fingers danced over the entries, and she plucked one with a handwriting that could only be described as a puzzle. The numbers danced in a wavy script, a merry jumble of ink on paper. She glanced at it briefly, momentarily puzzled.

Jinsoul, ever the astute manager, stepped in. With an amused twinkle in her eye, she leaned closer to the camera. "Don't worry, Heejin-ssi. I've got this. Let's see..." Her gaze flicked over the numbers, deciphering the seemingly chaotic scrawl with ease.

With a smooth motion, Jinsoul punched the number into the phone. It rang, the anticipation building in the air. As the line connected, she swiftly handed the phone over to Heejin.

Heejin took a steadying breath, her heart pounding in her chest. When the call connected and the screen came to life, her breath hitched. There, in the glow of her screen, stood a face that sent a rush of memories cascading through her.

"Hello?" The voice on the other end was bright and cheery, an unfamiliar warmth washing over Heejin. She blinked, suddenly transported back to high school, her heart pounding with a mixture of disbelief and delight.

"Hello there!" Heejin exclaimed, her voice lively and filled with warmth. She couldn't help the twinkle in her eyes. It was a blend of thrill and nostalgia. Jiwoo was an old high school crush, someone Heejin hadn't seen or spoken to in years. In that moment, she felt as if time had come full circle, and it brought a wave of emotions. Yet, for the sake of her fans watching the livestream, she kept her composure, playing it cool, just as she always did.

Heejin couldn't help but feel like she'd stepped into a dream, a delightful and surreal one where the world beyond her phone screen faded into a distant, muted background.

♠ ♠ ♠ ♠ ♠

In the cozy confines of her quaint bakery, Kim Jiwoo stood behind the counter, her apron dusted with a smattering of flour. Her attention was captured by the chatter of people outside, where the aftermath of Heejin's surprise event continued to echo through the neighborhood. She couldn't help but wonder what had caused such excitement.

As she went about her work, her phone chimed with an incoming call. She wiped her hands on her apron, glanced at the screen, and answered, unaware that her world was about to change in an unexpected way.

"Hello?" Jiwoo's cheerful voice greeted the caller, though her brow quirked in curiosity. She didn't recognize the number but didn't mind chatting with new acquaintances.

Heejin, on the other end of the line, couldn't suppress the excitement bubbling within her. "Hello there!" Her voice conveyed the warmth of her smile, even as she marveled at the serendipity that had brought her here.

Jiwoo just smiles and blinks, seemingly waiting for Heejin to say something more, the latter caught off guard.

“This is Jeon Heejin! It’s nice to meet you.” Heejin continues to smile through the bout of confusion.

Jiwoo's eyes sparkled with friendliness as she responded, "Nice to meet you, Jeon Heejin! How can I help you today?" She remained oblivious to Heejin's fame and the fact that she'd just won a unique event.

Heejin decided to play along, enjoying the opportunity to reconnect with her highschool crush. "I'm doing a project where I get to know new people, and I've heard so much about you! Tell me, what's your favorite thing about life?"

Jiwoo's cheerful spirit radiated through the call as she replied, "Oh, there are so many things! I love the simplicity of things like good food, time with friends, and watching my plants grow. But most of all, I love the sunshine. It makes me feel so happy!"

As Heejin continued to chat with Jiwoo, she couldn't help but notice the cozy surroundings behind her. The warm, inviting atmosphere, shelves filled with tempting pastries, and the sweet scent of freshly baked goods wafting through the air were unmistakable signs that Jiwoo was in a bakery.

Heejin's curiosity piqued, and she leaned in closer to her phone screen, an intrigued smile playing on her lips. "Are you in a bakery right now?" she asked, her eyes lighting up with interest.

Jiwoo's eyes sparkled as she nodded. "Yes, I'm actually at my own bakery," she replied, her voice carrying a hint of pride. "It's a small place, but I love it. Baking brings me so much joy, and I get to share that joy with my customers."

Heejin's smile grew wider. "That sounds amazing! What kind of bakery is it? Do you have a specialty?"

Jiwoo's enthusiasm was contagious as she described her bakery, its charming details, and the wide range of treats she created. She explained that her specialties included delectable cakes, mouthwatering pastries, and a variety of bread. Heejin couldn't help but imagine the delicious aromas and flavors that filled Jiwoo's bakery, and it made her even more intrigued.

"Wow, it sounds like a little piece of heaven," Heejin commented, genuinely impressed. "I can't help but admire your passion for baking. It must be incredibly rewarding to see people enjoy what you create."

Jiwoo's response was filled with warmth and sincerity. "It truly is, Heejin. Seeing someone's face light up when they take a bite of something I've made is one of the best feelings in the world. It's like spreading a little bit of happiness through food."

Heejin found herself drawn to Jiwoo's outlook on life, her simple pleasures, and her genuine appreciation for the small joys in everyday experiences. It was a stark contrast to Heejin's life in the spotlight, where everything was larger than life and often overwhelming.

Their conversation flowed naturally, bridging the gap between the world of a famous popstar and the world of a baker.

Meanwhile, Jinsoul, understanding the unique situation, took over the livestream with a smooth transition. She continued the broadcast, covering for Heejin as she focused on her delightful conversation with Jiwoo, who still believed this was just a random phone call.

Heejin's heart danced with the connection she was forging with Jiwoo, a beautiful moment of serendipity in the midst of her busy life. Little did either of them know that this conversation was the beginning of something special, a friendship destined to flourish.

The day of the dinner date arrived, and Heejin couldn't help but feel a mixture of excitement and nervousness. She had been looking forward to this evening all week, ever since she had randomly called Jiwoo and invited her out. The memory of their conversation played in her mind like a cherished film reel.

As Heejin got ready for the evening, she couldn't help but smile at the thought of Jiwoo's cheerful voice accepting her invitation. It had been so easy, so natural, as if they were old friends catching up after years apart. The memory of Jiwoo's laughter and her enthusiastic agreement to meet up for dinner warmed Heejin's heart.

She chose an outfit that was stylish yet comfortable, wanting to make a good impression while also ensuring that Jiwoo would feel at ease. Her mind wandered back to their conversation about Jiwoo's bakery, and Heejin decided to bring a small gift to express her appreciation for the warm welcome she had received.

As she arrived at the quaint bakery, the familiar scent of freshly baked goods enveloped her, and she couldn't help but feel a sense of comfort wash over her. The door chimed as she entered, and Jiwoo looked up from behind the counter, a bright smile lighting up her face.

"Heejin, you made it!" Jiwoo exclaimed, her eyes sparkling with genuine delight. "Welcome to my little slice of happiness."

Heejin returned Jiwoo's smile, feeling a wave of gratitude for this unexpected connection. "Thank you for having me. Your bakery is even more charming in person."

They chatted comfortably, as if they had known each other for much longer than just a week. The conversation flowed effortlessly, their laughter filling the air. Heejin felt a sense of kinship with Jiwoo, a feeling that went beyond the surface.

As the evening drew to a close, Heejin mustered up the courage to extend the evening. "Would you like to grab a bite to eat? There's this little restaurant nearby that I've been wanting to try."

Jiwoo's eyes sparkled with excitement. "That sounds wonderful, Heejin. I'd love to."

As Jiwoo and Heejin arrived at the restaurant for their dinner date, Jiwoo couldn't help but notice the subtle glances and curious looks from the people around them as they entered. She found it amusing, a hint of a playful smile tugging at the corners of her lips. To her, it was a bit like stepping into a movie scene, where the spotlight seemed to follow Heejin, making everything else fade into the background.

As they settled into their seats, Jiwoo couldn't resist a gentle tease. "You really do turn heads, don't you?" she said with a playful glint in her eyes. "I'm starting to think I won the lottery with this dinner date."

Technically you did, Heejin thinks.

Jiwoo found it somewhat amusing and endearing. She knew she was having dinner with a pretty girl, and it was only natural that others might find Heejin's beauty captivating. Jiwoo chuckled softly to herself, not wanting to make Heejin uncomfortable.

However, when Jiwoo's laughter reached Heejin's ears, she felt her cheeks flush with embarrassment. She had always been in the public eye, used to the attention and the stares from fans and strangers alike. But tonight was different. It was personal and intimate.

Heejin found herself fidgeting with her silverware, a mixture of shyness and warmth bubbling inside her. She glanced at Jiwoo, who was still chuckling, and found herself smiling too. There was something so genuine and heartwarming about Jiwoo's laughter that it put Heejin at ease.

Jiwoo's laughter filled the air, and she reached out to give Heejin's hand a reassuring squeeze. "I'm just telling the truth," she said, her eyes sparkling with mirth. "But really, I think it's your kindness that shines the brightest."

Heejin felt her heart skip a beat at Jiwoo's sincere words. It was a compliment that touched her deeply, and she couldn't help but return Jiwoo's smile with one of her own. In that moment, any self-consciousness she may have felt about the attention seemed to melt away. Instead, she felt a sense of ease and comfort in Jiwoo's presence.

"You're not so bad yourself," Heejin replied, her smile brightening the dimly lit restaurant. The two shared a moment of unspoken understanding, the chemistry between them growing stronger with each passing second.

Over the cozy candlelit dinner, Heejin and Jiwoo continued to talk and share stories, deepening their connection with each passing moment. The restaurant buzzed with soft conversations and the clinking of silverware, creating the perfect ambiance for their dinner date.

Heejin couldn't help but be drawn into Jiwoo's world as she talked about her life, her family, and her bakery. She admired Jiwoo's passion and dedication to her craft, finding it both inspiring and endearing. The pop star listened intently as Jiwoo described the joy she found in baking and the simple pleasures of life.

Jiwoo's warmth and sincerity were infectious, and it made Heejin feel comfortable opening up about her own life as well. She spoke of her family, her dreams, and the ups and downs she'd encountered on her journey. She told Jiwoo about her tight-knit group of friends who had been with her through thick and thini.

Heejin's stories were personal and heartfelt, but she carefully danced around the fact that she was a famous popstar. Instead, she spoke in more general terms, allowing Jiwoo to glimpse into her world without fully realizing who she was. She described her love for music, the joy she found in performing, and the occasional challenges that came with her career.

Jiwoo listened intently, her eyes reflecting empathy and understanding as Heejin spoke. It was clear that she was a good listener, someone who valued genuine connections and meaningful conversations. And as Heejin shared her stories, she felt a sense of trust and camaraderie with Jiwoo.

Heejin was aware that her fame could be overwhelming to some, but with Jiwoo, she found a sense of ease and authenticity. The evening was a beautiful exchange of stories, dreams, and laughter, and Heejin couldn't help but feel grateful for the genuine connection she'd discovered in Jiwoo.

As their conversation continued, Jiwoo mentioned her closest friends, Yeojin and Chaewon. She spoke about how proud she was of them, explaining that Yeojin had become a TV producer, and Chaewon had followed her passion to become a talented chef. Heejin couldn't help but smile, genuinely happy for Jiwoo's friends. It was clear that their bonds ran deep, and Jiwoo's eyes shone with affection when she talked about them.

As Jiwoo described her family, including her younger brother who had just entered university, Heejin made a mental note of all the details. She was touched by the sense of family and the love Jiwoo felt for her brother. It was a reminder of the importance of relationships and connections, something that sometimes got lost in Heejin's busy life.

The night had been filled with laughter, stories, and the blossoming of an unexpected friendship. As Heejin drove Jiwoo back to her home, the atmosphere in the car was warm and comfortable. Their connection had deepened throughout the evening, and they both felt a sense of ease with each other.

As they pulled up in front of the charming little bakery, Jiwoo turned to Heejin with a bright smile. "Thank you for the wonderful dinner, Heejin. I had such a great time."

Heejin returned the smile, her heart feeling light and content. "I did too, Jiwoo. It was truly special." She glanced at the quaint bakery that stood before them. "So you live around here too?”

Jiwoo nodded, her eyes sparkling with enthusiasm. "Yes, I actually live on the second floor." She paused for a moment before her face lit up with a realization. "Oh, would you like to come in for a cup of tea? My bakery is closed for the night, and it's a cozy little space."

Heejin considered the invitation and couldn't resist the charm in Jiwoo's eyes. "I'd love to."

Jiwoo led Heejin upstairs to her cozy living space, which was adorned with the same warmth and personality as the bakery below. They settled in, sipping tea and sharing more stories, their laughter filling the room.

As the evening drew to a close, Jiwoo walked Heejin to the door, their goodbyes lingering in the air. They stood in the doorway, bathed in the soft light of the bakery below.

With a shy smile, Jiwoo said, "Thank you for everything, Heejin. This was one of the best nights I've had."

Heejin gazed into Jiwoo's eyes, her heart skipping a beat. "I feel the same, Jiwoo. It's been amazing." She hesitated for a moment before leaning in, placing a gentle kiss on Jiwoo's cheek.

Jiwoo blushed, her cheeks turning a rosy hue. "Goodnight, Heejin."

"Goodnight, Jiwoo." With a final wave, Heejin stepped out onto the bakery's doorstep and watched as Jiwoo disappeared into her cozy world above.

As she drove away, Heejin couldn't help but feel that this unexpected encounter had brought a touch of magic into her life. She had met someone who was genuine, bright, and full of sunshine—just like the feeling of a perfect day.

As Heejin prepared for her final live performance, the atmosphere was filled with a sense of anticipation and excitement. She glanced at herself in the dressing room mirror, her heart pounding with a mix of emotions. Jinsoul stood nearby, observing her with a curious expression.

Unable to contain her curiosity any longer, Jinsoul finally ventured, "Heejin, I've been wondering. What's the story with you and Jiwoo? You two seem to have quite a connection."

Heejin turned to look at her manager, her eyes reflecting the fond memories of her time spent with Jiwoo. "Jiwoo... she's an old classmate from high school."

Jinsoul's eyebrows raised in intrigue. "High school, huh? That's quite a blast from the past. So, what's the connection?"

Heejin chuckled softly, a hint of nostalgia in her voice. "Well, Jiwoo was probably my first love."

Jinsoul couldn't help but burst into laughter at this revelation. "Your first love? Seriously, Heejin? You've never mentioned this before!"

Heejin shrugged, a sheepish smile on her face. "I was incredibly shy back then, unnie. I never worked up the courage to even introduce myself properly, let alone confess. But she's the brightest person I've ever known, just like the sun."

Jinsoul shook her head in amusement. "Well, I'm glad that you two reconnected. Jiwoo seems like a wonderful person."

Heejin nodded, her eyes filled with warmth. "She really is. It's like I found a piece of my past and brought it into the present. And it feels... amazing."

With those sentiments in her heart, Heejin headed onto the stage for her final live performance, ready to give her all to her fans who had supported her throughout the promotion.

♠ ♠ ♠ ♠ ♠

As the night sky embraced the city, Heejin and Jinsoul sat in a cozy café, enjoying their post-concert drinks. The ambiance was warm and inviting, providing the perfect setting for Heejin to reminisce about her past.

With a nostalgic glint in her eye, Heejin began her story, "You know how I told you that back in high school, I was incredibly shy and didn't have the courage to confess to Jiwoo? So, I came up with this ridiculous plan to make her jealous."

Jinsoul leaned in, intrigued. "A plan? Do tell."

Heejin grinned and continued, "I had a friend named Hyunjin, and I thought it would be a brilliant idea to use her as a decoy. I asked her to pretend to be my girlfriend in front of Jiwoo, hoping it would make Jiwoo realize her feelings for me."

Jinsoul chuckled at the memory. "That sounds like something out of a romantic comedy."

Heejin nodded. "It really was. But here's the twist. While the plan didn't exactly work out with Jiwoo, it did bring someone else together."

Jinsoul's curiosity grew. "Who?"

Heejin's eyes sparkled as she explained, "While Jiwoo remained oblivious to my intentions, Hyunjin and her long time best friend Jungeun ended up dating each other. Up to this day. They spent a lot of time together, under the guise of Hyunjin preparing a promposal for me, that was actually for Jungeun and I guess one thing led to another. Now, Jungeun and Hyunjin are together, happier than ever. They're practically inseparable."

Jinsoul chuckled, clearly amused by the turn of events. "So, your attempt to make Jiwoo jealous ended up being a love potion for Jungeun and Hyunjin. That's quite the story."

Heejin nodded, her smile filled with affection. "It was unexpected, but I'm glad it worked out that way. Life has a funny way of connecting people, doesn't it?"

Jinsoul leaned back in her chair, sipping her coffee, and turned her attention to Heejin. "So, what are your plans for the upcoming two-month vacation? You've earned it after these grueling promotions."

Heejin's eyes lit up with excitement as she shared her plans, "I can't wait for some well-deserved rest. First, I'll spend quality time with my family. They've been so supportive, and I want to make up for all the missed family dinners and outings."

Jinsoul nodded approvingly. "That sounds great. Family time is precious."

Heejin's enthusiasm continued to bubble over as she spoke, "And, I've always wanted to go camping. I feel like it'll be a great way to recharge and connect with nature. There's something about the tranquility of the outdoors that's so appealing."

Jinsoul couldn't help but smile at Heejin's enthusiasm. "Camping, huh? You'll have to tell me all about it when you get back."

Heejin laughed, her eyes twinkling, "Of course, I'll share every adventure and misadventure. But there's one more thing I'm really looking forward to during my break."

Jinsoul leaned in with curiosity. "Oh? What's that?"

With a mischievous grin, Heejin confessed, "I'll be spending some quality time with Jiwoo. We've got a lot to catch up on, and I'm excited to make new memories together."

Jinsoul raised an eyebrow playfully. "Quality time with Jiwoo, huh? I see what's going on."

Heejin blushed slightly but couldn't hide her affectionate smile. "Well, you know how it is. Life gets busy, and it's easy to lose touch. But Jiwoo winning that dinner date reconnected us, and I don't want to let her slip away again."

Jinsoul chuckled, thoroughly entertained by her friend's excitement and sincerity. "It sounds like you have an amazing break planned, Heejin. I hope it's everything you wish for and more."

Heejin's smile radiated warmth as she looked at Jinsoul, the latter’s curiosity got the better of her, and she couldn't resist asking Heejin a question that had been nagging at her. "Heejin, how are you planning to tell Jiwoo the truth about the random draw and the videocall?"

Heejin leaned back in her chair, contemplating the question. She had given it some thought, but her decision had been quite clear. "You know, Jinsoul, I've been thinking about that. And, honestly, I want it to remain as it is for now—organic. I don't want to burst her bubble or create any awkwardness. Right now, she thinks this is just a chance encounter with a cute girl, and I don't want to change that."

Jinsoul nodded in understanding, realizing that Heejin wanted to keep the connection they had established intact. "I get it. Sometimes, we just need those moments in life, don't we?"

Heejin smiled warmly. "Exactly. Sometimes, it's nice to let life surprise you. And who knows, maybe one day, I'll share the truth with her when the time is right. But for now, I'm content with our conversations, just the way they are."

Jinsoul raised her cup in agreement. "Here's to embracing life's little mysteries and the beautiful connections they bring."

With that, Heejin and Jinsoul clinked their coffee cups, celebrating the spontaneous joy and connection that had brought Heejin and Jiwoo together. The world was full of surprises, and sometimes, the best moments in life were the ones that defied explanation, remaining beautifully untouched by reality.

Under the warm glow of the setting sun, Jiwoo's backyard was adorned with colorful fairy lights, casting a magical ambiance over the barbecue party she was hosting. The sweet aroma of grilled meat and vegetables filled the air as Jiwoo, Yeojin, and Chaewon gathered around the grill, chatting and laughing.

Yeojin, the youngest and most boisterous of the trio, couldn't resist her curiosity and continued to pester Jiwoo about the mystery girl she had mentioned before. She grinned mischievously and prodded Jiwoo, "Come on, Jiwoo, you've been teasing us about this mystery girl for weeks. You can't keep us in the dark forever. Tell us more!"

Jiwoo, who had been quietly sipping her drink, couldn't help but blush under Yeojin's relentless gaze. She chuckled, "I've told you all I know, Yeojin. She's just a girl I randomly met, and I was charmed by her. We've been chatting and getting to know each other."

Chaewon, the chef and the calmest of the group, decided to playfully intervene. "Yeojin, give Jiwoo a break. She'll tell us more when she's ready. Let her enjoy her newfound connection without any pressure."

Yeojin rolled her eyes and huffed dramatically. "Fine, fine! But I'm warning you, Jiwoo, we expect details the next time we meet."

Jiwoo laughed at her friends' antics, grateful for their unwavering support and understanding.

As the evening breeze rustled through the trees, Yeojin couldn't help but roll her eyes and let out an exasperated sigh. She animatedly complained about her older sister Haseul's obsession with some popstar's surprise event. "I mean, seriously, she's acting like a teenager. It's just a surprise event. What's the big deal?"

Chaewon, the voice of reason as always, chimed in, "Yeojin, you know how passionate Haseul is about K-Pop. It's one of the things that brings her joy. Let her have her moment."

Yeojin crossed her arms, unconvinced. "I get it, but she's in her late twenties now. Isn't it time to move on from all this idol stuff? It just seems a bit... ridiculous."

Chaewon chuckled at Yeojin's complaints. "It's ironic, isn't it? You work in the entertainment industry, and you're disinterested in popstars, while your sister, who isn't in the mainstream media, is a die-hard fan."

Yeojin defended her position with a playful smirk. "Yeah, but I'm a 'slice of life' producer, not one of those mainstream media types. It's different."

Chaewon playfully raised an eyebrow. "And how exactly is that better?"

Yeojin smirked and shot back, "At least it's not being a pop culture hermit."

They both turned their attention to Jiwoo, who was diligently grilling the meat, unaware of the banter behind her. Jiwoo couldn't help but chuckle at her friends' playful arguments. She loved how they all had their unique interests and passions, and yet they could come together and enjoy each other's company so effortlessly.

♠ ♠ ♠ ♠ ♠

As the weeks passed, Heejin and Jiwoo's connection deepened. They texted each other regularly, sharing snippets of their days and exchanging playful banter. They made it a point to meet up at least once a week, relishing in each other's company.

During one of their cozy hangouts at Jiwoo's bakery, Heejin found herself sharing more about her family. She spoke fondly of her older brother, Jungkook, who had recently moved to the United States to pursue his music career. "He's always been passionate about music," Heejin explained, her eyes lighting up with pride. "I have a feeling he's going to make it big over there."

Jiwoo's eyes sparkled with amusement. "Well, in that case, I need to get his autograph now, before he becomes a superstar. You'll have to put in a good word for me."

Heejin burst into laughter. "You've got it! I'll make sure to secure you a signed album as soon as he releases one. You'll be able to say you knew him before he was famous."

Jiwoo chuckled, finding Heejin's words both amusing and endearing.

"You know, my friends, especially Yeojin, constantly chide me about it. They find it hilarious that I'm so indifferent to all things pop culture, considering I used to be in the AV club back in high school."

As they continued to chat, Jiwoo's face lit up with a mischievous glint in her eyes. "You know, there was this one time when I helped a friend with a promposal in our school gym. It was absolutely adorable. Hyunjin, my high school buddy, sang this really sweet song to Jungeun, but Jungeun had no clue it was for her. She thought the promposal was for another girl!"

Heejin's eyes widened in surprise and intrigue. "Wait, seriously? That sounds like a scene straight out of a movie!"

Jiwoo nodded, her smile growing wider. "I kid you not. It was like something out of a teen romance flick. Hyunjin went all out, and Jungeun was completely oblivious until the very end. It was hilarious."

Both of them burst into laughter, picturing the scene in their minds.

Heejin couldn't help but feel a warm rush of nostalgia as Jiwoo recounted the story of the promposal. She vividly remembered that day, the buzz of excitement, and the flutter of curiosity when the promposal was happening in their high school gym. It was a moment from her past that had always made her heart skip a beat, even though she had known that the promposal wasn’t meant for her, but for her friend Jungeun.

She listened intently, letting Jiwoo reminisce about the adorable high school scene without revealing that she was the "other girl" in the story. It felt like a secret only she knew, a connection that bound their past together in a way Jiwoo was unaware of.

Out of curiosity, Heejin asks Jiwoo if she’s ever mentioned her to her friends.

Jiwoo chuckled as she listened to Heejin's playful question. "Honestly, they've been really curious," she admitted. "I've been telling them that I met this wonderful girl, and I want to keep it a secret until things get more serious. But now, they're convinced you're some secret spy or a superhero."

Heejin joined in the laughter, appreciating Jiwoo's witty response. "Well, a secret spy would have a pretty cool job, I guess," she replied, a hint of mystery in her voice. "But I promise, I'm not here to steal any secrets."

Jiwoo chuckled as she recalled the humorous incident. "Oh, you won't believe this, but one day, Yeojin got so curious about you that she decided to steal my phone to search for any clues. She thought she was being sneaky, but she was in such a hurry that she didn't notice she was standing on the edge of the swimming pool."

Heejin burst into laughter, imagining the comical situation. "She fell into the pool, didn't she?"

Jiwoo nodded, her laughter joining Heejin's. "Yep, she fell right in! I couldn't stop laughing when it happened. She was soaked but still clutching my phone, trying to check it for any signs of your identity."

Heejin's laughter continued to fill the air as she imagined Yeojin's antics. "That must have been quite a sight. I bet she was determined to uncover my secret."

"Absolutely," Jiwoo confirmed. "But it only made her even more curious about you. Now she's convinced you must be someone really important for me to keep you a secret. Chaewon thinks I'm dating some famous idol, and Yeojin is obsessed with discovering who you are."

Heejin's cheerful expression faltered ever so slightly upon hearing that Chaewon thought she was an idol. While she was flattered that Jiwoo's friend had such high expectations for her, it also made her nervous. She hadn't shared her true identity with Jiwoo yet, and she wasn't sure how her newfound friend would react when she found out that Heejin was, in fact, a well-known celebrity.

Attempting to hide her anxiety, Heejin took a deep breath and let out a nervous laugh.

Jiwoo, perceptive as ever, noticed the shift in Heejin's demeanor. "Is something wrong, Heejin? You seem a bit tense."

Heejin hesitated for a moment before deciding to be honest with Jiwoo. "Jiwoo, there's something I should tell you. I haven't been completely truthful about who I am."

Jiwoo's brows furrowed in confusion as she looked at Heejin. "What do you mean, Heejin?"

As Heejin took a deep breath, preparing to reveal her true identity to Jiwoo, the door of the bakery swung open with a resounding jingle. In walked two figures, their voices carrying a heated exchange that was impossible to ignore.

Yeojin was engaged in a lively argument with her older sister Haseul. Their animated discussion seemed to revolve around something as mundane as the ideal shade of blue for a living room wall.

"Yeojin, I'm telling you, cobalt blue is just too bright! Navy would be a much better choice," Haseul asserted, her expression one of utter conviction.

"But unnie, cobalt has character! Navy is just... too safe. You need a pop of color!" Yeojin countered, gesticulating wildly to emphasize her point.

The sisters' dynamic was a mix of lively bickering and genuine affection, a familiar rhythm to anyone who knew them well. As they ventured further into the shop, the unmistakable scent of freshly baked goods greeted them, momentarily diverting their attention from their debate.

Then, as if in slow motion, Haseul's gaze met Heejin's. Time seemed to freeze for a heartbeat, and then, with a high-pitched squeal of pure fangirl delight, Haseul's eyes rolled back in her head, and she promptly fainted into Yeojin's arms.

Yeojin, caught off guard by her sister's sudden collapse, struggled to support Haseul's weight. "Haseul unnie! Seriously, you're such a drama queen," she muttered, a mix of exasperation and fondness in her voice.

Heejin stared in astonishment at the unexpected turn of events. This was certainly not how she had envisioned revealing her identity to Jiwoo. She exchanged a wide-eyed glance with Jiwoo, both of them clearly taken aback by the spectacle.

Jiwoo's eyes widened in genuine concern as she watched Haseul slowly regain consciousness. The older woman blinked, momentarily disoriented, before her gaze landed on Heejin once again.

"You... you're... Oh my stars, you're Heejin!" Haseul exclaimed, her voice filled with a mixture of awe and disbelief.

Heejin chuckled softly, offering a warm smile. "Yes, that's me."

Jiwoo couldn't help but be both relieved and bewildered. She had assumed that Haseul's fainting spell was due to some medical issue, but now it seemed to be a reaction to seeing Heejin. It was all a bit much to process.

"Are you alright?" Jiwoo asked, genuine worry evident in her voice. She glanced at Yeojin, who was doing her best to support her older sister.

Haseul, still a bit dazed, managed a shaky nod. "I... I think so. It's just... I can't believe I'm meeting Heejin in person!"

Yeojin rolled her eyes playfully, though there was a fond smile on her lips. "Unnie, seriously. You'd think you'd met an actual unicorn."

Haseul shot her sister an exasperated look, but it was clear that the excitement still lingered in her eyes. She turned her attention back to Heejin. "I'm so sorry for causing a scene. It's just... you're one of my absolute favorite artists!"

Heejin laughed lightly, genuinely touched by Haseul's enthusiasm. "No need to apologize at all. It's a pleasure to meet you, Haseul."

Jiwoo watched the exchange with a mixture of amusement and confusion. She still had no idea why Haseul had reacted this way, and she couldn't help but feel a bit out of the loop. She exchanged a glance with Heejin, silently conveying her bewilderment.

Heejin, noticing Jiwoo's expression, offered her a reassuring smile. "It's... a long story. I'll explain later."

Jiwoo nodded, though she couldn't help but be curious. She made a mental note to ask Heejin about it when they had some privacy.

With Yeojin's insistence, she guided Haseul to the display of croissants, determined to fulfill her original purpose for visiting Jiwoo's bakery. Haseul sheepishly apologized once more to Heejin for the commotion, but her eyes still held an excited gleam. She couldn't resist requesting a picture with the famous popstar, which Heejin graciously agreed to. Afterward, she shyly asked for an autograph, which Heejin gladly provided.

Meanwhile, Jiwoo observed the interaction with a mix of amusement and warmth. She had never expected her quiet little bakery to turn into the setting for such a whirlwind event. As Yeojin playfully scolded her older sister, Jiwoo couldn't help but admire the genuine bond the two shared.

Finally, the sisters departed the bakery, leaving Jiwoo and Heejin in a somewhat quieter atmosphere. Jiwoo let out a small laugh, a hint of disbelief in her voice. "Well, that was certainly unexpected."

Heejin chuckled, shaking her head. "You have no idea. I guess it's not every day my fans come to visit my friends' bakeries."

Jiwoo smiled, still a bit bewildered by the turn of events. "It's not every day that someone like me gets to meet someone like you."

Heejin's eyes softened as she looked at Jiwoo. "I'm glad I got to meet you, Jiwoo."

Jiwoo returned the sentiment, her gaze meeting Heejin's. "I'm glad I met you too, Heejin."

The two of them shared a moment of unspoken connection, a sense of warmth and familiarity that belied their short time knowing each other. And in that quaint little bakery, surrounded by the comforting aroma of freshly baked pastries, their unique friendship continued to bloom.

Jiwoo, Yeojin, and Chaewon gathered one evening at one of Chaewon’s much smaller and intimate restaurants, the warm lights casting a friendly glow over their small table. Yeojin couldn't wait to regale the incident at Jiwoo's bakery. She sipped her latte before launching into the story with animated enthusiasm.

"Okay, so, you won't believe what happened when I brought Haseul to Jiwoo's bakery," Yeojin began, her eyes sparkling with excitement. "We were just there to buy croissants, right? And Haseul passes out! Literally faints in front of Jiwoo!"

Chaewon's eyes widened in surprise. "Wait, Haseul passed out? What happened?"

Jiwoo chuckled, her cheeks still carrying a faint blush from the incident. "It was… unexpected. She saw Heejin, and I think she's a fan. She asked for a picture and an autograph."

Yeojin chimed in, her words filled with a mix of amusement and affection for her older sister. "She was so starstruck that she basically forgot how to breathe. The fangirl life, you know."

Chaewon found the entire situation amusing. "That's quite the reaction. But, Jiwoo, I have to ask, how did you not recognize Heejin?"

Jiwoo blushed even deeper, fidgeting with her cup. "Honestly, I had no idea she was famous. I thought she was just a cute girl who randomly called me."

Yeojin giggled at the sheer innocence of it all. "That's so like you, Jiwoo. Oblivious to pop culture but drawing in a famous celebrity without even trying."

Chaewon couldn't help but laugh as well. "I suppose it's a testament to Heejin's charm and your charm, Jiwoo. Your worlds collided in the sweetest way possible."

Jiwoo smiled, feeling grateful for the unexpected encounter. "Yeah, and I wouldn't have it any other way." The genuine connection she had formed with Heejin meant more to her than any chance encounter with a famous celebrity.

As the conversation flowed, Yeojin paused for a moment, her brow furrowing in thought. "You know," she mused, tapping her chin lightly, "Heejin actually looks really familiar to me. But not because she's a celebrity." She glanced at Jiwoo with a quizzical expression.

Jiwoo tilted her head in curiosity. "Oh? How so?"

Yeojin leaned back in her chair, searching for the right words. "It's like... I feel like I've seen her somewhere before, in a different context. Like, a long time ago."

Chaewon and Jiwoo exchanged intrigued glances, both eager to unravel the mystery. Before they could delve further into the topic, the restaurant's door chimed as it swung open, revealing their old highschool and long-time friends - Hyunjin and Jungeun.

Hyunjin's eyes immediately found Yeojin, and she waved enthusiastically. "Hey, Yeojin! Fancy seeing you here." Jungeun, her arm wrapped around Hyunjin's waist, greeted the group with a warm smile.

"Hey, everyone. Mind if we join you?"

"Of course not, please do," Chaewon replied, gesturing to the empty seats at their table.

Jiwoo's curiosity led her to inquire, "So, why are you two here? What brings you to this restaurant?"

Jungeun turned her attention to Jiwoo, her eyes gleaming with enthusiasm. "We're actually meeting up with an old high school friend. She's working on her new album, and I've been helping her with some compositions."

Hyunjin chimed in with a mischievous grin. "Yeah, our old buddy here is quite the talented composer." Poking fun at her own wife.

Jiwoo was intrigued, her eyes flickering with interest. "That's amazing! And who is this friend you're helping? Is she someone we know?"

Before they could answer, the door of the restaurant swung open, and Heejin walked in, her eyes scanning the room. She was taken aback to see all her friends and acquaintances gathered in one place.

"Hey, everyone!" Heejin called out with a warm smile, making her way toward the table. She greeted each of her friends, hugging them or giving them cheerful pats on the back. Then, her eyes fell on Jiwoo, who was sitting with the group.

Jiwoo's face lit up as she saw Heejin, and she waved her over with a bright smile. "Heejin, join us!"

Heejin, surprised to see Jiwoo there, beamed at the invitation. "Jiwoo! I didn't expect to see you here."

As Heejin settled into the seat next to Jiwoo, the group welcomed her warmly, and the restaurant buzzed with the lively conversations of old friends and new acquaintances coming together in an unexpected reunion.

As everyone settled in, Yeojin couldn't shake the feeling of familiarity. It was as if there was a connection just beyond her grasp, waiting to be uncovered. She glanced at Heejin, a thoughtful expression on her face.

Hyunjin and Jungeun exchanged a subtle glance, the corner of their lips curving up in a knowing smile. "Hey there, Heejin!" Hyunjin greeted Heejin with a friendly nod.

Jiwoo, Yeojin, and Chaewon exchanged surprised glances as Heejin smiled and returned the greeting. "Hey, Hyunjin, Jungeun," she replied, her tone filled with warmth.

The casual familiarity between the three friends left everyone at the table taken aback. They had all assumed that Heejin's connection to Hyunjin and Jungeun was purely coincidental, but now it seemed that they shared a deeper bond.

"Wait, you know Heejin too?" Jiwoo asked, a sense of amazement in her voice.

Hyunjin chuckled, her arm wrapped around Jungeun's waist. "Yeah, we go way back," she said, confirming the close friendship between them.

Jungeun nodded, offering a friendly smile.

The revelation left Jiwoo even more intrigued and curious about Heejin's life. It was clear that there was more to Heejin than met the eye, and Jiwoo was eager to learn about the different facets of the person she was growing fond of.

As the conversation continued among the group, Chaewon couldn't help but let her curiosity get the best of her. She turned to Hyunjin and Jungeun, her eyes filled with intrigue. "So, how do you two know Heejin exactly?"

Hyunjin and Jungeun shared a knowing glance before Jungeun's lips curled into a gentle smile. She leaned forward, resting her chin on her hand. "Well, we've known Heejin for quite a while now."

Hyunjin chimed in with a playful wink. "In fact, we go way back, all the way to high school."

Jiwoo and Chaewon exchanged surprised glances. Jiwoo, who knew about Heejin's celebrity status, was curious about the connection. Chaewon was just as intrigued, especially since Jiwoo had been sharing stories about her recent friend.

Hyunjin couldn't help but share a mischievous grin with Jungeun. It was time to let everyone in on a little secret.

"So, here's the thing," Hyunjin began, her eyes twinkling with mischief. "Back in high school, I had this huge crush on Jungeun. Like, massive. But I was way too nervous to ask her out directly."

Jungeun chuckled, casting a fond glance at Hyunjin. "Yeah, it took a little nudge from a friend to get things rolling."

"That friend being none other than Heejin," Hyunjin continued, her gaze turning towards Heejin with a playful glint. "She agreed to help me out by pretending to be the girl I was going to ask out, just to give Jungeun a little surprise."

Heejin grinned, slightly embarrassed but clearly amused by the memory. "It was a lot of fun, actually. I remember being so nervous, but it all worked out in the end."

Yeojin's eyes widened in realization. "Wait, so you're the decoy girl Hyunjin was talking about?" she exclaimed, her voice filled with amazement.

Chaewon laughed, thoroughly entertained by the revelation. "Wow, what a small world!"

Jiwoo couldn't help but be captivated by the story. It was like a scene out of a romantic comedy, and she was thoroughly enjoying every moment of it.

Heejin blushed slightly at the attention, but she couldn't deny the warmth she felt from sharing this memory with her friends and Jiwoo. It was a testament to the unexpected connections that life could bring.

Jungeun, her eyes sparkling with pride, leaned in and dropped another bombshell. "Actually, Heejin is the singer I've been working with for her new album."

The group's eyes widened in surprise as they tried to process this new revelation. Jiwoo couldn't help but look at Heejin, her heart doing somersaults as she realized that the person she'd been spending time with and getting to know was such a famous and talented singer.

Chaewon, ever the curious chef, was quick to ask, "But isn't your music more on the pop-ish side, Heejin?"

Heejin nodded, confirming Chaewon's observation. "You're right. My previous songs were more in that direction. But lately, I've been feeling more inspired to explore different styles and themes in my music. I wanted to have a more mature sound for my next album, and that's why I reached out to Jungeun. She's an incredibly talented composer, and I knew she could help me bring a fresh perspective to my music."

Jiwoo couldn't help but smile. She was in awe of Heejin's dedication to her craft and her willingness to evolve as an artist. It only made her more intrigued and drawn to the talented singer, who was even more multifaceted than Jiwoo had initially thought.

As the evening continued, the group enjoyed their time together, sharing stories, laughter, and delicious food. Jiwoo marveled at the connections and coincidences that had brought her to this moment, realizing that sometimes, life's surprises could lead to something beautiful.

♠ ♠ ♠ ♠ ♠

The night continued on with laughter and shared stories, filling the air with a warm and joyful atmosphere. The group savored every moment, but eventually, one by one, they had to say their goodbyes and head home.

As the others began to disperse, Heejin turned to Jiwoo and smiled. "Would you like a ride home?"

Jiwoo, who had been enjoying the evening immensely, nodded with a warm grin. "Sure, that would be lovely."

They got into Heejin's car, and the drive was comfortable, filled with easy conversation. As they passed by the Han River, Heejin decided to pull over and enjoy the serene view.

Sitting beside the tranquil river, under the night sky adorned with stars, Heejin couldn't help but feel like this was the perfect moment to reveal another truth to Jiwoo. She took a deep breath, her eyes fixed on the glimmering waters.

"I have one more thing to tell you, Jiwoo," Heejin began, her voice soft and sincere. "I've enjoyed getting to know you, and I really cherish the time we've spent together. But there's something else you should know."

Jiwoo, her eyes reflecting a blend of curiosity and surprise, gazed at Heejin, waiting for her to continue. Her interest piqued, she couldn't help but wonder what else Heejin wanted to share.

With a gentle smile, Heejin began to unveil the heartfelt confession that had been tucked away in her heart for years. "Back in high school," she started, "I had a massive crush on you, Jiwoo. I can genuinely say that you were my first love."

Jiwoo blinked, her eyes widening as she processed Heejin's revelation. "Me?" she asked, her voice soft with disbelief.

Heejin nodded, her cheeks flushing slightly. "Yes, you," she continued. "I tried to introduce myself multiple times, but I was always too shy to say anything. You were this bright ray of sunshine, and I was the shy and quiet girl. I met Hyunjin by blurting out an awkward question to her because I couldn't bring myself to say a simple 'hi' to you."

Heejin's confession hung in the air, their surroundings reflecting the soft glow of the night sky, and the serene sounds of the river adding to the stillness of the moment. She looked at Jiwoo with sincerity, her feelings laid bare.

Heejin continued her tale, her gaze fixed on Jiwoo as she spoke with a tinge of nostalgia. "You see, after helping Hyunjin with that promposal, we were actually supposed to work together to help me ask you out too. But just when we were planning everything, my company informed me that I was going to debut as an idol."

She sighed softly, reminiscing about those bittersweet moments. "I couldn't pass up the opportunity, and that's why I suddenly disappeared from school. It's probably why none of you clearly remembered me—because it all happened so fast."

The weight of her past decisions seemed to hang in the air, but Heejin smiled, a mix of nostalgia and hope in her eyes. "And now, after all these years, we found our way back to each other. Isn't that a beautiful twist of fate?"

Jiwoo listened intently, her heart swelling with a mixture of emotions. "Wow," she whispered, almost to herself. "It's like... everything was destined, wasn't it?"

She turned to look at Heejin, her eyes sparkling with amazement. "I mean, think about it. We were so close to each other, yet it took all these years for us to finally meet again. It's like the universe conspired to bring us back together."

Jiwoo couldn't help but feel a sense of wonder at the twists and turns of their stories. It was a beautiful revelation, and she couldn't deny the growing warmth in her heart.

Heejin chuckled softly, her eyes sparkling with amusement. "I just realized something even crazier," she said, her voice tinged with mirth. "Out of all the people who submitted their numbers for the draw, it was your number that I randomly picked. It's like fate was determined to bring us together."

Jiwoo furrowed her brows in confusion. "What do you mean, Heejin? What draw are you talking about?"

Heejin blinked, her eyes widening in realization. "Wait, you don't know?" She looked at Jiwoo in surprise. "You won a dinner date with me in a surprise event I held during my album promotions!"

Jiwoo's eyes widened in astonishment, and her cheeks flushed with surprise. "Wait, what? Are you serious?"

Heejin nodded, her smile never fading. "Absolutely. You were the lucky winner. It's like destiny was determined to bring us together once again."

Jiwoo chuckled, her confusion now cleared. "I have to be honest, Heejin. I didn't enter any draw or submit my number for your event. In fact, I had no idea about it until told me just now. I honestly thought you really were just calling to get to know people."

Heejin blinked, her eyebrows knitting in puzzlement. "But how did your number end up there?"

Jiwoo shrugged with a bemused smile. "I have no idea, Heejin. Maybe it was a mix-up or a prank. All I know is that I didn't put my number in any bowl."

Heejin's eyes widened as realization washed over her. "Wait, that's right. I remember now. We couldn't make out the numbers on those papers, and Jinsoul was the one who read and dialed the number for me." She laughed softly.

As Heejin gazed at the glimmering water under the moonlight, a grateful smile tugged at her lips. "You know, I think I owe Jinsoul a huge thank you," she said, her voice filled with sincerity.

Jiwoo turned to her, curiosity in her eyes. "Oh? Why's that?"

"It was her who misread the number and dialed it for me," Heejin explained, a soft laugh escaping her. "If it weren't for that little mix-up, I might never have had this chance to reconnect with you."

Jiwoo's eyes twinkled with understanding. "I see. Well, I'm certainly glad she did. This has been such a pleasant surprise."

Heejin nodded, her heart warmed by the sentiment. "Me too, Jiwoo. It's funny how things work out sometimes, isn't it?"

They both shared a quiet moment of reflection, grateful for the twists and turns that had brought them back together. The night air held a sense of magic, as if the universe itself had conspired to reunite them.

As the night breeze whispered through the leaves and the gentle murmur of the river filled the air, Heejin and Jiwoo found themselves lost in the serenity of the moment. Heejin couldn't help but steal glances at Jiwoo, the moonlight casting a soft glow on her features.

With a shy smile, Heejin leaned in a little closer. "Jiwoo, can I tell you something?"

Jiwoo turned to face her, her eyes filled with curiosity. "Of course, Heejin. What is it?"

Heejin took a deep breath, her heart racing with anticipation. "I... I really like you, Jiwoo. More than I've ever admitted to anyone."

Jiwoo's eyes widened, and her cheeks flushed with a rosy hue. "You do?"

Heejin nodded, her gaze unwavering. "Yes. I've liked you for a very long time, even back in high school. And I want to keep getting to know you, to be a part of your life."

A radiant smile graced Jiwoo's lips as she reached for Heejin's hand. "I really like you too, Heejin. I've enjoyed our time together so much, and I'd love for you to be a part of my life too."

Heejin's heart soared as they sat there, hands intertwined, under the moonlit sky, two hearts finding their way back to each other after a long and winding journey.

With a sense of happiness and a world of possibilities ahead, they both knew that their story was only just beginning.
