Work Text:
Gen runs a private investigations agency and has a part timer, Suika. The detective agency is mostly just a legal front to allow Suika to poke her nose into things and Gen’s there to smooth things over and drive her places. So you see, Suika has this friend Mirai who’s got this older brother Tsukasa who’s got this fellow athlete Hyoga who’s got this other fellow athlete Homura who’s got this reporter friend Minami who’s got this big scoop on Lillian Weinberg’s private life. Rumor has it that she’s bringing in her step-family and their friends to be backup dancers for part of her Japan concert tour, and that one of them is looking into selling backstage tickets, and even his spot on the dance team.
Minami knows her friend Nikki would jump at the chance no matter how high the price is, and the price really is outrageous, so she begs her friend Homura for help in convincing Nikki not to do it who looks to her friend Hyoga for advice who snarks about it to his friend Tsukasa who tells his little sister Mirai about it over dinner because he thinks Mirai would find it interesting because Lillian Weinberg sounds and looks like a mermaid so Mirai excitedly tells Suika about it at school and oh! This sounds like a job for the great detective Suika! She’s on the case to find the truth behind the backstage tickets and who exactly is part of Lillian Weinberg’s secretive step-family.
So Suika tells Gen about this new case she’s picked up and Gen mentions it to Yo the next time he’s caught loitering (trying to bait a missing cat from under a house for another case) and Yo brags about it to Ukyo at a civil servants gala and it just so happens that Ukyo overheard this loud young man yelling about being excited over learning how to dance and he thinks that may be connected so he sends an anonymous tip to Gen’s agency telling him where he heard this loud young man and how it might help his case.
So Gen and Suika drive to the neighborhood the tip told them about and out of nowhere this random guy collapses in front of them, clammy, sweaty, almost frothing at the mouth, eyes rolling back. He’s conscious just long enough to slur out “don’t worry. No hospital. Sleep.” So what do Gen and Suika do? They load him up in the car and take him to the office.

Hours later, the news reports that Lillian Weinberg’s step-son has been abducted on his way home from dance practice. Lillian is talking to the reporter, Byakuya is about to do an acrobatic fucking pirouette off the handle, Taiju has already left to sprint up and down the streets screaming Senkuu’s name, and Yuzuriha is trying to track his phone’s GPS from his computer because she paid attention when he told her about how you could do that that one time Taiju got lost on a field trip but the fucking idiot dropped it when he collapsed and Gen and Suika were too busy lugging around his lifeless body to notice.
Gen and Suika still have no clue who this random dude is so they pay the news reports no mind. He’s passed out on the couch while Gen and Suika play checkers on the other couch. He’s just starting to come to so they prepare some tea and snacks to help him get his bearings. It’s getting late now though so Suika’s older brother Chrome has come to pick her up since he’s finished with his science club. He arrives like “hey whats the club president doing here? Isn’t he a missing person?”
And then Gen finally makes all the connections and realizes he’s a wanted criminal. Chrome’s about to leave with Suika but Gen pulls him back by his collar like “there is no way you’re gonna leave me here by myself with a missing person at least help me dump him on the roadside or something” and Senkuu, awake but not fully, overhears that and starts getting very nervous. His kidnappers gave him some really good cookies though and his tired brain and body is fully devoted to the consumption of nutrients. He swears he could die happy if he had some more cookies. He’s prepared to marry those cookies for life. Or the person who gave him the cookies. They’re some damn good cookies- oh shit they’re coming back and. There’s a child? There is a small middle schooler and- “oh hey Chrome. What’re you doing here?”
They take some time to catch up and Gen is sitting there entirely unhappy that his waiting room is occupied by a missing person and that missing person’s abductor. There’s absolutely no way they can resolve this situation normally.
At that moment, Taiju slams into the window because they forgot to close the blinds and he could spot Senkuu’s awful hair from a mile away and oh shit is that famous ex- teenage mentalist/ magician Asagiri Gen??? Hey Taiju loved reading his books in high school oh my god this is so cool- SENKUU!!!
Taiju’s found Senkuu and he WOULD call Yuzuriha about it but he also forgot his phone so he resolves to try to phase past the window until Gen comes out the other side and opens the door for him. Taiju, in his excitement, nearly kills Senkuu for real with a bear hug.
Yo knocks on the door because of a noise complaint. Kohaku, who runs a beauty and self defense parlor next door with Amaryllis, filed the nose complaint and has also shown up. Nikki, who is a regular patron of Kohaku and Amaryllis’, followed her. Tsukasa and Mirai show up too because they heard the commotion while they were getting dinner and Mirai was worried about Suika cuz she knows she works there.
Who are all these people in Gen’s waiting room?
“Gen, why do you have a missing person in your waiting room?”
“That’s a good question. A better question would be why wouldn’t anyone be in my waiting room? It seems to be free real estate at this point”
Gen gets arrested again, Chrome has to get him out again but this time Suika tags along, who invites Mirai, who brings Tsukasa, who ended up chatting with Nikki about workout routines who brings Kohaku along who offers to teach Suika and Mirai self defense, which piques Taiju’s interest because he doesn’t like fighting but never learned proper defense techniques, so he brings Senkuu along because he’s never going to let Senkuu out of his sight again but in doing so separated Senkuu from his beloved cookies.
Several days later, Senkuu has been reunited with his friends and family but there’s something missing. So he asks Chrome about Suika’s workplace and decides to pay a visit.
He knocks. No answer. He knocks again. Nothing. He tests the doorknob, it opens, and he hears a scream and sounds of struggle from inside the office. He rushes in to find Gen wrestling with a feral cat “WAIT NO CLOSE THE DOOR-!” The cat rushes for the exit and Senkuu, the unathletic bastard, is too slow to prevent its escape.
So now they’re even. Gen kidnapped Senkuu, and Senkuu fucked up his missing cat case. Except the kidnapping is resolved but the cat case is very much unresolved so now Senkuu has to help Gen find the cat again. He offers the backup dancer position as consolation and Gen convinces him to give the position to Nikki, as well as provide backstage tickets for him, Suika, Mirai, and Chrome, AND help find the cat.
“So, where’d you get the cookies?”
“The cat’s owner, Ryusui, has this butler, Francois, who made them as a gift for the last time that damned cat got out.”
“Ryusui as in Ryusui Nanami of Nanami Corp?”
“Yeah that one.”
Senkuu falls in love with the potential of exploiting one of the richest people in Japan, and this smooth talking man might be the key to an endless supply of scientific funding and heavenly cookies.
