The Light Side's Shadow

Summary:

A Miraluka's explanation of how being a Shadow is not a Dark use of the Force.

Work Text:

"How can a Shadow be a being of Light?"

"Shrouded in darkness, does the Dark side not call to you?"

"If you follow the Light side then what reason do you have to hide?"

Questions often asked of her. Questions the Miraluka struggles to answer. Not for a lack of one, but for lack of the recipients' understanding.

"The concepts of lightness and darkness are different when you see purely through the Force. They often have little relation to the Light Side and the Dark Side at all."

"To others, light makes things easier to see. They can maneuver the world with ease, find appreciation for that which they can perceive with clarity. To me the best option is for a neutral state, the worst being the scattered buzzes of artificial lighting. I can admire an old fashioned painting on the ceiling; the bumps and ridges of differing textures and layering of material paint a picture that may be different but is none the less beautiful. Bright spotlights cast a hazy 'shadow' over it."

"Most people have their perception limited when there is a lack of light. And that is what darkness is to them: a lack of light. Most darkness is natural and that which is not is visibly off. The Dark Side and it's corruption ripples through the world's natural state, each mark of rot so sharp on the senses it cannot be ignored. How can they not see it? If I have learned anything from my dealings with the Emperor's children it was that Darkness can be shielded only by artificial Light. "

"The Sith are loud and forceful with their efforts. Their passion drives them forward with little regard to the balance of the universe. Selfish and short sided. The Light is a cool balm against the heat of their rage, the sting of their blades, the burning in your lungs when stepping into a place of corruption."

'Stepping into a toxic Balmorran lake is more pleasant.'

"Is a shadow of a tree hiding from the tree? Do you not know how lucky you are to find the cool reprieve of shade so easily? Circling around a tree on a hot summer's day is the closest to hiding from light I get to. A light so far away that I will never perceive it. Warmth from an unknown source, why would I not excuse myself from a sun's company?"

"In all honesty the presence of a sun and it's illumination is the closest sensation of the average person's 'darkness'. Completely unperceived beyond the temperature on my skin. Like a radiation leak never found but always felt."

"Is a shadow of a tree standing under a sun unnatural? Or would the lack of one give you unease? I am simply taking care in my level of energy, aligning myself with the Force's flow. There is no emotion. Emotion surges through the Force, pushing and pulling, insisting on being known and seen and acknowledged. Meet the natural state of things and you will be natural yourself. As far as I know a person does not see sunlight; the Light simply is."

"A shadow does not ask to be seen or unseen. A shadow simply is. The same applies to a Shadow. The same applies to me."

The Jedi avoids answering such questions to just anyone. Her viewpoint disregarded brings up unwanted surges after all.

Notes:

She just vibing with the Force. Not her fault you see with your eyeballs. Let her hide from the scary sun in peace!
