Work Text:
heeseung turns off the car engine, taking a deep breath as he leans his head back on the headrest. he looks at the clock on the dashboard: 11:18pm.
it’s been a busy couple of days at work, thus why he’s home so late even on a friday evening. he had promised his mate he would do his best to come home early after not being able to come home on time during the last couple of days, but his drive to finish his work fast so as to give himself some slack the next week made him call his husband earlier that day to profusely apologize for planning to come home late.
sunghoon, ever-understanding, loving and faithful, merely told heeseung to come back safely and to make sure he eats dinner earlier that night. he even went as far as delivering a home-cooked bento box in heeseung’s office at around 7:15 to make sure that he does eat his dinner that night. heeseung had called him then, and the two video-called while they ate their respective dinners, that of which was cut abruptly, when sunghoon had more important matters to attend to.
before forgetting, heeseung had texted his mate not to stay up too late nor to wait for him, as he knew his omega would, even though he just knows that the younger will stay stubborn, staying up late to wait for heeseung even if he didn’t have to. sunghoon would chalk it up to his omega being unsettled at his alpha not being home yet, and while heeseung understood, sunghoon has been tired these days, especially since heeseung had been spending most of his days working finishing a project, thus leaving sunghoon alone with all the house chores and duties. he feels guilty of it, wanting to take part in the responsibility and allow his mate to rest, which is also why he wanted to finish the project as soon as he can.
when he gets to their floor, he fishes his house keys from his coat pocket. he opens the door to find himself in a dim-lit living room, television muted but still on, and the only source of light being the lamp just beside it. he smiles when he sees a silhouette lying on the sofa, in front of which is the unrolled mat they recently bought, with toys strewn across the mat.
in the middle of which, he finds the bassinet, where he knows their pup could be sleeping, if not on his mate’s chest.
he quietly walks over to them, smile widening and heart leaping when he finds sunghoon already fast asleep with their five-month-old son lying on his chest, also equally fast asleep. sunghoon’s hand is rested protectively over the baby’s back, a towel slung over his shoulder. he finds a half-empty baby bottle on the side table just on the head of the sofa, and he assumes that sunghoon must have fallen asleep after burping their pup, attempting to lull the baby to sleep.
the apartment is, quite literally, a mess, with all the toys and unrolled playmat, as well as the newly-washed baby bottles he spots by their kitchen sink. but in all honesty, he wouldn’t have it any other way.
allowing his mate and son some couple more minutes of sleep, heeseung puts his bag down quietly by the side table to pick up the toys scattered on the playmat, putting them inside the toy chest as quietly as he can. he then picks up their son’s half-empty bottle to the kitchen, knowing very well sunghoon wouldn’t allow their son to drink leftover milk. he washes and sterilizes it the way sunghoon taught him to, letting it dry along with the other baby bottles he assumed sunghoon had washed in a hurry while playing with their son.
“hee?” he hears a soft murmur from the living room, prompting the alpha to dry his hands with a hand towel to walk to the source of the sound.
he smiles as he crouches to the level of the sofa, right in front of his husband. he watches sunghoon open his eyes halfway, gaze meeting heeseung’s before he lets out a breath, gaze looking down at their son already fast asleep on his chest.
“you’re home,” sunghoon says softly, smiling up at his mate as he brushes their son’s back with a soothing hand. “we were waiting for you.”
the alpha chuckles softly, shaking his head as he tucks a stray hair behind sunghoon’s ear, leaning to press a gentle kiss on his forehead, then on his lips, before he presses a light kiss on their son’s head. “i told you not to wait for me, didn’t i?” he asks gently, but the omega only scoffs quietly with a shake of his head.
“when have i ever listened to you when you say that?” sunghoon asks petulantly, and heeseung couldn’t help but chuckle fondly, pressing another kiss on the tip of sunghoon’s nose while the omega pouts. “i told you. it feels weird sleeping alone on our bed, nest feels weird.”
heeseung smiles gently. “i know, i’m sorry,” the alpha responds gently, placing a gentle peck on the omega’s pouty lips. “but you need your rest too, love. i was hoping you’d have at least a good couple of hours of sleep before haneul wakes us up.”
their little haneul, named after the sky, and named after his hyung. he was born one night in may, healthy and crying loudly inside the delivery room, while heeseung held sunghoon’s hand, the omega too overwhelmed at hearing the one sound he had wished he had heard since the first time he was inside the delivery room. his heart was exploding with love, and his alpha’s had been the same. he had been the light of their lives ever since, despite the sleepless nights and difficult days.
“i don’t mind. he’s been an angel all day,” sunghoon murmurs, looking down to place a gentle hand to cup the back of their son’s head, smiling when he watches the baby’s lips suck onto something, like he’s dreaming of being fed milk. “and we wanted to stay up. it’s a special day in a few minutes, you know?”
heeseung grins widely, chuckling as sunghoon reaches with his free hand to cup his husband’s cheek, thumb brushing on the alpha’s cheekbone as his gaze is tired, but overwhelming with fondness. the alpha looks up at the clock in their living room, smiling when he sees that it’s only 11:35pm, still quite a way to go before tomorrow.
“come on,” heeseung says softly, one hand sliding under sunghoon’s back, the other resting gently on sunghoon’s hand over haneul’s back. sunghoon hums, eyes trained on their son as he slowly gets up from the couch, careful not to disturb their baby’s slumber, one they deem impossible given how their son’s sleep is always deep and barely ever disturbed. “let’s get haneul back to our room, hm? i’ll just take a shower and change. you should do the same.”
sunghoon huffs, hand patting on haneul’s back as the baby stirs ever so slightly in his papa’s arms, but gaze narrowing as he looks at his husband. “are you asking me to shower with you, heeseung-ssi?” he asks, tone light and teasing that heeseung merely chuckles and shrugs.
“if it comes across as that, you know i wouldn’t be opposed,” the alpha chirps, earning a glare from the omega as heeseung laughs, eyes landing on the back of their son’s head. “or you can go first? i wanna spend a bit more time with the little man.”
sunghoon’s gaze softens, smile turning fond as he nods. he turns his head to gently press a light kiss on the side of the baby’s head, before he maneuvers the baby lightly, guiding his head and light body to transfer him to his appa’s arms. he watches haneul’s face scrunch lightly in discomfort, but both parents are quick enough for sunghoon to transfer the towel over heeseung’s shoulder, and for heeseung to tuck the five-month-old’s face at the crook of his neck, shushing him quietly and patting his back softly.
“it’s okay, it’s okay,” heeseung whispers, pressing a light kiss on the baby’s head. “appa’s here, my love. appa’s got you.”
sunghoon smiles fondly at the two, heart almost aching with how overwhelmed he is with the love he has for the two of them. heeseung is a perfect, gentle and loving father, like how he always knew he would be, and haneul is just as pliant and responsive to his appa, looking so small in the alpha’s arms compared as to how big he seemingly looks whenever sunghoon has him in his arms. he watches heeseung nose the baby’s head carefully, scenting him lightly to mix his scent with sunghoon’s, knowing how possessive the alpha is with the both of them, always wanting his scent to be on sunghoon, and now with haneul.
he couldn’t help it. he takes a step closer to them, tiptoeing to press a kiss on haneul’s head, before he presses a light peck on heeseung’s cheek, and when the alpha turns his head to face his husband, sunghoon captures his lips in a gentle, searing kiss.
“i love you,” sunghoon whispers against his husband’s mouth, pulling away slightly, but not far enough for their mouths not to graze on each other. “i love you so much, lee heeseung.”
sunghoon feels his husband’s smile against his lips, before the alpha captures the omega’s lips again in a kiss. “and i love you more, park sunghoon,” he responds. “so much more than you can imagine.”
impossible, sunghoon thinks, but he merely leaves it at that, knowing this is an argument he can never win with his husband. with a final peck on his husband’s lips, and on haneul’s head, he sets off to their bedroom, grabbing a pair of pyjamas and proceeding to their bathroom to wash the day away.
when he comes out of the bathroom, already clad in his striped button-down pyjamas with matching pants, heeseung is down to his boxers and undershirt, having put his work shirt and trousers in their laundry basket. he is peering down at the bassinet beside their bed, where their son is already lying peacefully asleep on his back, head turned to the side, and small mouth open, small snores coming out. the alpha looks up, seeing his husband come out of the shower, and sunghoon throws his clothes in the laundry basket before walking over to his alpha’s open arms.
heeseung wraps his arms around the omega’s waist, face pressing on the younger’s stomach and pressing a light kiss over his clothed abdomen. he hears sunghoon inhale a shaky breath, hands coming up to thread his fingers through heeseung’s hair. the alpha brushes his nose against sunghoon’s abdomen, exposing the bare skin where his stitches from the c-section five months ago has healed, pressing a kiss over the healing scar. sunghoom hums, scent spiking, and heeseung merely smiles against his husband’s stomach.
it’s been a while since the two of them had spent time alone together, every other attempt to get intimate with each other always interrupted by their fatigue or by haneul’s cries. it’s been difficult, and the two of them knew they wouldn’t have it any other way, but sometimes heeseung can sense how tense sunghoon is slowly getting with the lack of quality time he spends with heeseung. heeseung himself finds himself missing his husband, despite him being beside him in bed, or merely just a couple of meters away from him inside their apartment.
he’s determined to hopefully fix that tomorrow.
“you smell so good.” heeseung murmurs, and sunghoon merely chuckles airily.
“time to wash up, alpha.” sunghoon says, leaning down to press a kiss on the crown of his husband’s head, before disentangling himself from the alpha’s arms, pulling him up to meet heeseung’s mouth halfway in a searing kiss.
“love you.” heeseung murmurs, pressing one quick peck on the tip of sunghoon’s nose, before he walks to their bathroom, leaving the omega giggling.
when he exits the bedroom, he doesn’t find his husband on their bed. he furrows his eyebrows, walking closer to find haneul still fast asleep, only this time, he finds haneul surrounded by his pillows, his one hand holding on tightly to one. heeseung smiles, knowing very well that at some point during the night, they’ll find the baby cuddling the pillow against his small body, just like how heeseung always needs something—or someone— to cuddle when sleeping.
he leans down to press a kiss on haneul’s head, murmuring a small “i love you” before stepping out of their bedroom in search for his husband. he finds him quickly, his back turned on sunghoon by the kitchen counter. sunghoon, upon hearing his husband step in the kitchen, smiles widely, and in his hands is a small cake with a lit candle on top, the light from the candle giving sunghoon’s face a beautiful glow, and all heeseung can think of is god, how can he be so goddamn lucky?
sunghoon looks up at the clock, grinning when he sees that it’s a little past twelve midnight, already a couple of minutes into october 15th. “happy birthday, my love.” sunghoon says softly, and heeseung can’t help but chuckle softly, smiling fondly when he hears sunghoon sing softly, walking near the alpha carefully with the cake on his hands.
“make a wish, alpha.” the omega says, and heeseung closes his eyes, smile still not leaving his face as he makes his birthday wish: for his family to stay complete and healthy, for his mate’s smile to never leave his face, for his son to grow up to be a wonderful boy.
heeseung blows the candle, with sunghoon cheering softly as he carefully places the small cake on the kitchen counter. heeseung immediately wraps his arms around the omega’s waist, capturing his lips in a deep, searing kiss, murmuring his thanks to his mate, murmuring how much he loves him, and how lucky he is in his life as it is. sunghoon hums against his mouth, arms around the alpha’s neck, only pulling away to tuck his face in the crook of heeseung’s neck, placing a kiss on where his mating bite is, compliment to his where the neck and the shoulder meet.
they stay like this for a while, with heeseung swaying them, lips pressed on sunghoon’s hair. he smiles, and with one arm still wrapping around the omega’s waist, he takes the omega’s phone, unlocks it, and fiddles with it for a bit to play a song.
sunghoon chuckles against his husband’s shoulder, pulling away slightly just as heeseung rests his husband’s phone by the counter beside the cake. the alpha smiles, pressing a quick kiss on the omega’s lips before placing his arm back around his waist, swaying the both of them in time with the music. sunghoon rests his forehead against heeseung’s, his eyes closed as he hums along with the music.
fall in love
my love for you, love, love
sways, sways, sways, sways
fall in love
like petals dancing and circling
your love, your love, your love, your love
flashes of their wedding come to mind—the one held three months ago when haneul was almost two months, and sunghoon has recovered enough from giving birth. it was a small ceremony, planned abruptly and swiftly by sunoo and jungwon after heeseung proposed to a teary sunghoon in the hospital room just a day after haneul was born. they didn’t need a big wedding, didn't feel the need to prolong it any more than they should have. they’ve always known they were going to end up together, have always known the wedding is simply a formality for the sake of heeseung’s parents and their friends.
heeseung’s mother took care of haneul, who had been nothing but an angel throughout the ceremony, but had become needy for his papa during the small reception. this exact song played at heeseung’s request when they had their first dance as a married couple, heeseung deeming it fit the second he heard sunghoon playing the song when he was still pregnant with haneul.
this emotion can’t be expressed in words
it’s screaming in a raw voice
i’m falling
falling for you
this is for you
“this is for you.” heeseung echoes, smiling when sunghoon merely tucks his face in the crook of the alpha’s neck. the alpha closes his eyes, hand sliding up to brush the omega’s soft hair. he presses a light kiss on the side of his head.
once upon a time, long ago, heeseung could only dream of dancing with sunghoon like this—in pure contentment, inside their own living room, while their kids would be asleep and they just had to steal moments just for the two of them. somewhere down the road, those dreams had almost vanished, losing sunghoon along the way, and vowing to himself that these dreams will be for sunghoon and no one else.
now, seven years after their separation, and a little over a year since they reunited, here they are, stronger than ever in their love and devotion, with their second son sleeping in their room, and their first looking at them from above. heeseung thinks they could’ve taken the easier route, could’ve skipped all the losses and heartbreak they went through, but he knew they wouldn’t be who they are and they wouldn’t be where they are right now if not because of it.
“are you happy, my love?” heeseung murmurs against his husband’s hair. the younger pulls back slightly, mouth curved into a small, beautiful smile, and eyes in half-crescents. heeseung chuckles as he lifts a hand to brush the younger’s smooth cheek with his thumb.
“i am,” sunghoon answers softly, but the omega chuckles. “i’m supposed to be asking you that question, birthday boy.”
heeseung laughs softly, leaning to press a gentle kiss on sunghoon’s mouth. “i’m happy, very happy,” he says softly. “i have you, and we have haneul. it’s the best gift i can ever have.”
