Chapter Text
Katie woke up to a clean, white room. She glanced around for a moment, wondering where she was, but then remembered- she was at the resort. Playa Des Losers. Chef had told her on the way there that she would be staying here for the remainder of the show.
For the first time in almost two weeks, she felt well rested. She stood from her bed, grabbed her clothes, and locked the door to change.
She wore her usual outfit, her black and white striped crop top and pink jean shorts. She ran downstairs and to the kitchen to pick up breakfast.
The only other person in the room was Noah. He ate scrambled eggs and a bowl of fruit with a book open in front of him. He was taking his time eating, taking two or three bites of his food per page he read.
Katie picked up some pancakes, blueberries, and strawberry milk. She made her way to the table that Noah was sitting at and took her own seat across from him.
“Hi Noah,” Katie greeted.
Noah looked up from his book. “Uh, hey.” He turned back to his book.
“What? Are you not surprised to see me?”
Noah stayed silent for a moment before closing his book and putting it down. “Look, Sadie, you and Katie don’t exactly strike me as ‘finalists’. Plus, me and the others watched your elimination last night. It was sort of pathetic.”
Katie flushed. “For your information, I’m Katie. And, Sadie is the strongest most beautiful girl I know! We slept in a cave the other night and she took it like a total champ! She’s gone on dates with the ugliest boys ever and survived! She so deserves to still be on that island and win!”
Noah rolled his eyes. “Whatever.”
Katie angrily scooped blueberries into her mouth. She ignored Noah, who didn’t really care, and ate as fast as she could. Slowly, a look of confusion imprinted on her face and she stopped eating. “Wait. How did you watch the elimination? Did the episode come out that fast?”
“Nah,” Noah responded. “They have a live feed playing a few doors down from the kitchen. When I got here, Eva and Ezekiel went to watch Justin’s elimination and I tagged along. And we did the same thing with yours.”
“A live feed?” Katie’s eyes opened wider. “Like, all the time?”
“Only on challenge days, obviously.”
“No, like… whenever I want to watch it on challenge days?”
“...Yeah?”
Katie stood up violently, chair falling behind her. “Where? Show me where!”
“Jesus, okay,” Noah responded. He took the final bite of his scrambled eggs and stood up, walking into the hallway. Katie followed close behind.
Noah opened a door to a room with 15 T.V.’s lining the walls. The first was a confessional, the other 14 were black and blank. Facing the T.V.s was an old-looking couch.
“So, tomorrow I can sit in here and watch the challenge?” Katie asked.
“Yup,” Noah popped the p. “Nobody’s stopping you.”
“Alright,” Katie smiled, arms crossed. “That makes me feel a little better about being away from Sadie.”
“Whatever,” Noah said, ready to walk out the door.
“Wait!” Katie exclaimed. “Are you down for a game of volleyball? I’m gonna be totes bored and I saw the net out there when I got here.”
“No.”
“Please! Please please please!”
Noah sighed heavily. “No. But you know what? I’ll watch you play if you can play against someone else.”
Katie stomped her feet. “But Ezekiel’s a total creep and Justin is too hot to do any physical activity!”
“What about Eva?”
“She’s terrifying!” Katie retaliated. “That’s a given!”
“Oh come on. She’s not that bad. I’ll come with you to talk with her if you need. Anything to keep me from having to play.”
“Thank you thank you thank you!” Katie exclaimed, scooping Noah into a hug.
“Yeah,” Noah croaked. “Put me down.”
“Great! Where’s Eva?”
“The gym in the basement.”
Katie ran down the hallways, before realizing she didn’t know where the basement was. She waited for Noah to show her where the gym was.
“Thanks again for helping me,” Katie smiled.
“Yeah. Um. So you just forgot about the whole thing I said about your elimination?”
Katie paused. “Oh yeah, I was supposed to be mad at you.” At least after he showed her the live feed room. That was pretty good for forgiveness. “Oops.”
Noah stayed silent and opened the gym door. Grunts were heard from Eva as she lifted weights, doing arm curls.
“Hey Eva,” Noah greeted. Katie walked behind him, a little nervous.
Eva continued with her workout. “What?”
“Katie was wondering if you’d play her at volleyball.”
“Noah!” Katie seethed through her teeth.
Eva set the dumbbells down and glared at Katie, who stepped out from behind Noah.
Eva crossed her arms and stared at Katie, eyebrow furrowed. Katie did the same in return.
Is she mad at me for voting her out? Katie asked herself. Probably. It seemed like that girl never got over a grudge. Is she judging me? Maybe. It didn’t seem like Eva was the type of girl to get along with ‘normal’ girls.
“Sure,” Eva said. “I could use a break.”
Katie smiled. Eva and Noah walked ahead to the exit, and Katie trailed behind.
At the court, Katie served the ball over the net to Eva again. Noah sat on a chair nearby, reading and occasionally taking a peek at the game.
“Why are you so good?” Eva gritted through her teeth. So far, she had only scored two points on Katie’s seventeen.
Katie slammed the ball over the net yet again. Eva dived, but it was to no avail.
“Maybe because I’ve played my whole life,” She smiled.
Eva grunted. “Are you on a team or something?”
“Yeah.”
“Figures. I bet you’re best friends with all the girls on your team.”
“No, actually.” Katie bumped the ball. “I don’t think they like me all that much. The only girl I really get along with in general is Sadie.”
“Oh,” Eva responded. “I guess I get that.”
Noah peered up from his book, but said nothing.
“I play soccer. My teammates don’t like me either.”
“When have they ever?” Katie joked.
Eva looked at her with a death glare.
“Sorry.”
Eva sighed. “Yeah. I don’t think anyone likes me all that much.”
“Wow…” Noah voiced. Katie and Eva just stared, letting the ball drop.
“Look,” Katie said, returning her attention to Eva. “When you’re not being angry, which is pretty rare and I’ve only seen it like, right now, you’re pretty okay. It’s been pretty fun playing against you.”
“Thanks,” Eva shyly smiled.
