Work Text:

Scooter regularly takes walks in Fogfield Woods, and today is no different. The ginger has always found it calming, being away from the bustle of Ivywood and surrounded by nature. Late nights spent at Charlie’s house had her point out how ironic of a name Ivywood was; it’s barely nature-y, unlike how Scooter is sure it was when it was first founded.

She suddenly regrets not bringing a jacket, since it’s starting to get a bit chilly out. Scooter scans the area around her, and realizes she’s strayed off the walking trail. I really need to pay attention to where I walk, She thinks, turning to walk back in the direction she came from.

The ginger only walks for about a minute until something starts to feel wrong. Scooter tries to ignore it, taking a deep breath and walking a little faster.

Someone grabs her, and before she can turn around, a hand covers her mouth. Panic rises in her chest as she tries to elbow whoever her attacker is. A needle stabs into her neck, something being injected into her body. Scooter’s eyelids droop, struggles getting weaker, and she falls to the ground.

When she wakes up, her mouth is dry, and hunger gnaws at her stomach. Scooter tries to open her eyes, vision blurry. There’s someone standing above her, looking down at her in concern. “Hey, you okay?” He asks, nudging at her.

Scooter doesn’t respond with actual words, instead groaning. “C’mon, let’s get you some water,” The person says, hauling her up and setting her down near... a small pond?

Fuck it, she might as well get diseases instead of die. Scooter laps at the water, vision becoming a little sharper, and she stares down at her reflection. Her eyes widen.

She’s a fucking cat.

“What... What the fuck is going on?” She mumbles, still too weak to stand.

The other person tilts his head. He’s also a cat, a pure white one. “What do you mean?”

“I’m a cat ,” She hisses, quite literally, trying to force her legs to work, despite not knowing how to walk like this. “What the hell. What the hell?”

“Well, yeah, I am, you are, there are plenty of other cats out there-”

She cuts off the stranger. “No, I’m- I’m a human.”

“You look like a cat,” He says, tail swishing. “So I’d say you’re a cat. Unless you’re a Shapeshifter or something.”

“I’m not a Shapeshifter,” Scooter grunts, managing to stand on shaky legs. “Look, I got attacked or something and woke up here, and now I’m a goddamn cat.”

The other cat blinks. It pisses her off. “What do you not understand?! I don’t understand this shit either, but clearly it happened!

After a few moments of staring at her with a confused yet gentle gaze, the other cat speaks. “Okay... well, we can figure this out once we know each other’s names, and you’re fed. I’m Branch.”

“I’m Scooter,” She replies, grimacing. “What was that about being fed?”
