Nap Time

Summary:

Based on the quote from the game - “Great. Well I’m just going to take a nap. Wake me when the chopper gets here.”

Notes:

I know God Eaters can't touch God Arcs other than their own, but we're ignoring that for this fic.

Work Text:

You slashed through the last Ogretail in the area, killing it and collecting its core. The others had surrounded the Borg Camlann while you dealt with the small fry. Soma had its attention on him, slashing at its shields trying to break them while Alisa backed him up with her assault gun, taking shots at the monster's head. Sakuya and Kota had circled behind it to open fire at its weak spot - the tail. You went to back up your gunners, getting there just in time to shield them as the Borg Camlann turned around for its stinger attack. Seeing an opening, Soma and Alisa went in for the kill, one of them completely cutting off its entire tail in the process. While Alisa extracted its core and Soma found a sturdy rock wall to rest against, you called in for a pick up.

“Hey Hibari, it’s the 1st Unit here. We defeated the Borg Camlann and are requesting immediate pick up.” You radioed back to base, knowing Hibari was almost always the operator for your missions.

“Copy that Yuu, I’ll send the chopper. It should be there in 20.” Hibari replies before covering her mic. You can hear her muffled voice telling the chopper team to pick you guys up before she uncovers her mic to speak again. “I’ll see you guys back at the base. Radio if any other Aragami appear.”

“See you in a bit Hibari” You reply before turning the radio off. You turned back to the rest of the 1st Unit to see that the Borg Camlann had already disintegrated and Kota, Alisa and Sakuya were off to the side chatting. You approached Soma and took a seat next to him, leaning back so your head rested against the wall. “How’re you doing this fine Aragami-filled day Soma?”

He turns his head to give you a dry look then says, “it’s the same as always. We fight, we kill, we do it again the next day. If most of us survive it might even be considered a good day.” He turns his head away from you and you sense he’s done talking.

“Great. Well I’m just going to take a nap. Wake me when the chopper gets here.” You see Soma nod before you close your eyes and try to get some sleep. With how overworked you’ve been since Lindow’s death, taking over as leader for the 1st Unit, all the extra assignments Director Schicksal gives you, and trying to get over your significant crush on Soma, you haven't been able to get much sleep lately. Within a minute you were out like a light.

Soma’s POV

It had been a few minutes since Yuu said she was going to take a nap. I had pulled out the current history book I was reading and was just about to reach the next chapter when I felt a weight on my shoulder. I looked over and found that Yuu had slid down the wall a little and had leaned her head on my shoulder. I heard giggling to my left and whipped my head over to glare at Kota and the others who were currently laughing at my predicament.

“Shut up before I make you.” I quietly growled at them, trying to make sure Yuu would be able to get some more sleep. Kota made some teasing kissy faces at me and I flushed with anger. At least that’s what I told myself the emotion was. I swear if Yuu wasn’t using me as a headrest I’d kick Kota’s ass into next week for sure.

“Soma and Yuu sitting in a tree, K-I-S-S-I-N-G~” Alisa and Sakuya sang from behind Kota, chuckling to themselves at my predicament. I could only huff in indignation and ignore them for my book. Even if Yuu wasn’t sleeping on me I wouldn’t be able to do much; it had been too long since I saw the team have smiles on their faces. I wasn’t going to ruin it by getting angry, even if it was at my own expense.

As I ignored the gaggle of giggling girls (yes, that includes Kota too), I tried to focus back on my book. I still hadn’t quite finished the chapter I was on because no matter how many times I read the page, it just wasn’t sticking in my head. I couldn’t help but be distracted by the light brown hair drifting in the wind at the edge of my peripherals. I glance down at Yuu. Her short hair was blowing towards me in the breeze. I barely had time to observe her unguarded sleeping face when I realized the wind was actually the helicopter arriving.

Had I really been so distracted that I hadn’t even heard the chopper approach us?

I put my book away and went to get up, but before I could, I realized Yuu was still sleeping and resting her head on me. She must’ve been exhausted to be able to sleep through all the commotion of the chopper landing. If she could sleep through all of that, maybe I should just let her get some rest…

I moved my weight towards her so her head was resting more towards my neck as I shifted into a crouching position in front of her. I wrapped one arm around her back and the other under her legs and lifted her up easily as I stood up. Looking down at our God Arcs, I realized there was no way I could carry both of them and Yuu; I just didn’t have enough hands.

“Kota, make sure you get all our stuff.” I demanded as I walked to the chopper to hopefully find a place to put Yuu down to rest again.

“Why do I have to carry your stu-” Kota started to whine before he noticed what, or should I say who, Soma was carrying. “I see, I see. You’re gonna prioritize your little lovebird over your gear today, huh?” Kota teased as he made his way over to grab both of your God Arcs.

“Just grab it so we can head out already you idiot.” I grumbled as I carefully got into the helicopter, making sure not to jostle Yuu too much. Alisa and Sakuya were already inside along with Kota’s God Arc. There wasn’t going to be any room to lay Yuu down, so I went to sit her down in the seat next to the door so I could prop her up against it. Sakuya stopped me before I could set her down.

“If you put her down there, she’s just going to bang her head against the door the entire way back. You wouldn’t want our cute leader getting a concussion because of you, now would you?” Sakuya smiled up at him sickenly sweet.

“Then where do you suggest I put her?” I snapped, knowing there was some evil idea Sakuya had in mind by the glint in her eye. I was right to be suspicious because her grand idea was to just hold her in my lap the entire ride back. By then Kota had slipped in and arranged himself and the God Arcs so there was only one seat left, even though there should’ve been an extra seat after their whole group sat down. Knowing it was the only option left, I surrendered to their heinous plan and strapped myself into the last available seat, now holding Yuu up against me in my lap. For the whole ride I glared at my so-called teammates. Any time one of them snickered I directed my heated gaze to them to shut them up. My only saving grace was that Yuu didn’t wake up the entire ride to witness my embarrassment.

By the time we landed, even my death stare couldn’t stop the leers from my unit directed at me. The second we were on the ground and cleared to leave I unbuckled and practically launched myself out of the chopper, only stopping to make one more threat to my team. “If any of you mention this to her when she wakes up, I will make your life more of a living hell than it already is.” I shot one more glower over my shoulder before carrying Yuu straight to the elevator. With any luck, it would be empty and I could avoid any more people finding out about this.

Safely in the vacant elevator, I went straight down to our rooms. I had to shift my grip on Yuu so I could grab her armlet to open the door to her room. She had just moved into the veterans level recently so her room still had some unopened boxes lying around. Luckily her bed was clear so I gently tucked her in. She had somehow stayed asleep for the entire ride back to base. If she could sleep through that, maybe she could sleep through one more thing…

I leaned down to lightly kiss her forehead before making sure she was all tucked in before I left. Collapsing into my bed in the room next door, I could only hope that I would be able to not look embarrassed the next time I saw her, seeing as how she knew nothing of what had happened once she had fallen asleep.
