Lucy sat at her desk, lost in deep thought. She had been a detective for quite some time now. She stopped UC once she got engaged to Tim. She wanted a family, future, and that was not possible being UC. It was never long term for her.
Lucy was presented with an opportunity and the wheels were spinning in her head over it. It could be great, but there were other factors that she needed to consider.
“Lucy. Lucy!” She is shaken out of her thoughts. She sees Angela looking at her. “You okay Luce?”
“Yeah Ange. I’m good. Sorry thinking about things. What’s up?”
Angela gives her a pointed look. “Mhm.” She says. “We have a lead for our case. Come on.”
Lucy follows her to the car. The lead ends up helping to find their suspect. Once he’s in interrogation, Lucy is able to crack him quickly.
“Great work as always Lucy.” Angela tells her.
“It helps when you have the best partner.” Angela rolls her eyes.
They start working on paperwork, with Lucy lost in thought once more.
Tim walks up to her desk. “Hey baby.” Lucy jumps out of her seat not expecting Tim to be there.
“Oh hey babe.” She squeezes his arm.
“Are you okay?” He asks Lucy concerned.
“I’m fine. Ready to go home?” Tim nods and Lucy goes to grab her stuff.
“She was like that earlier. Something’s on her mind. Wouldn’t talk to me.” Angela says walking away.
Lucy comes back out and they walk to Tim’s truck. They come in together when they can, although it’s not always possible. They drive home in silence, holding hands. Their favorite way to drive. They’ve been married for almost two years now.
Tim and Lucy arrive home. They relieve the nanny and Lucy grabs her baby boy.
“Oh sweet boy. I missed you today.” She whispers into his light curly hair. Tim wraps his arms around both of them. “I thought it would get easier, leaving him every day. It isn’t getting any easier.”
“Baby. He knows you love him. You’re an amazing mom. We’re a great team.”
Tim gives his son a kiss before going to order dinner and change into comfier clothes. Their son was the spitting image of his dad, but a mama’s boy through and through. TJ (yes he was named after his daddy) was their light.
Lucy breastfeeds when she’s home and pumps for work hours. She finishes feeding and walks to find Tim in the living room. He’s wearing those sweatpants that are so damn sexy and a tight shirt.
She licks her lips. “I’m just going to change.” She hands TJ to his daddy.
Tim smacks her ass as she walks away and winks at her. Lucy puts on her favorite leggings and one of the shirts she stole from her husband. She’s still not 100% comfortable with her body, but Tim looks at her like he could devour her at any second every day.
Dinner arrives and they eat, their son smiling at them from his seat. Lucy cleans up dinner while Tim plays with their son. Watching him with his son is the greatest thing in the world. He’s the best dad.
They get him ready for bed. Lucy feeds him once more before putting him to sleep for the night. As she lays him down, she wipes tears away. She misses him when she works so much and she’s so afraid of missing the important moments. She feels two strong arms wrap around her and Tim rests his chin on her shoulder.
After a few minutes they leave their sons room and head to their own.
“Will you tell me what’s going on now Luce?” Tim asks sincerely.
“Umm I was offered a job opportunity, but I’m just not sure what I should do.” She’s sitting there biting her lip.
“What is the job baby?”
She takes a deep breathe. “They want me to head up a new program. Mainly for UC’s. I wouldn’t be going UC and I wouldn’t move stations. Basically, I’d help them prepare for it, teach classes, and share my expertise. I’d be promoted to Lieutenant as well. They also asked I help on cases when needed with the detective’s squad. It could require more time and potential travel. It wouldn’t be often, but maybe every other year.”
“Lucy, baby, that’s amazing.”
Lucy looks at Tim. “What if it takes more time away? We want more kids Tim.”
“Hey stop. You’re amazing. This opportunity will open so many doors from you. You’ll run circles around everyone. You should do it. These UC’s will be prepared better than anyone with you there.”
“You think so?”
“Lucy. You’re incredible. Why are you doubting yourself? It sounds like an amazing opportunity and you’ll be a Lieutenant? You’ll out rank me and that’s so damn sexy.” He whispers the last part. “Baby. I’m so damn proud of you. There’s no one who deserves this more. You’ll be captain one day. Mark my words.”
“You really think I should go for it?” She still sounds so unsure.
“I do. You’ll still be an amazing mother. We will make it work. We always do. Grey wants to retire soon and he asked me to take over. It’s time to stop putting myself in so much danger. It’s your time to shine baby. You deserve this next step in your career.”
“Wait what? You want me to take it?”
“I do. Take the job Lucy. You’ll be incredible.”
“Okay. I’ll take to them tomorrow. Thank you for supporting me babe.”
“Always. Now lieutenant, may I have my wicked way with you?” He wiggles his eyebrows.
“You’re such an idiot, but you’re my idiot.” He proved to her how much of an idiot he wasn’t that night.
Tim was right, Lucy excelled and was captain at Mid-Wilshire within two years of accepting this role.
