Pewsh!
With one blast from her Plasma Beam, a small fire was started on the pile of wood the two had collected. The woman in the space suit sat down on the patch of dirt and the woman made of metal followed right after. They both stared into the flame as it crackled and popped. Silence filled the air for a moment until the anti-shadow weapon spoke.
“You were a very formidable opponent. I’ve never faced anyone with abilities quite like yours.” Aigis turned her head to look at the armored woman.
“You were strong yourself as well. You and… whatever that ghost thing was.” Samus responded.
“That was Athena, my Persona.
“Persona…? What’s that?”
“It is the thoughts and feelings of one’s soul tamed and given form.”
“I… see.”The bounty hunter pretended as if she understood fully what the woman spoke before the two went back to sitting in silence. The sound of wilderness could be heard throughout the night as a slight breeze passed by. Aigis could feel the tension in the air. She thought of possible ways she could cut through it. Perhaps a conversation would help.
“Perhaps introducing ourselves will help to ease the tension? My name is Aigis.” The blonde robot smiled. There was a small pause for the other blonde.
“Samus.”
“Samus-san. It’s a pleasure to meet you.”
“Mhm.” The hunter’s tone sounded distant.
“Might I ask where you’re from? I detect you’re speaking English. Are you perhaps from America?”
“America…? What is… America? The language I’m speaking is from my Earth colony.” Samus sounded confused but the android was equally as confused.
“Earth… colony?” Where might that be located?”
“A place you can’t find anymore.” The woman turned her head away as her tone lowered.
“Oh. I… apologize if I brought back any bad memories…” The anti-shadow weapon looked down as they went back to silence once more. Eventually, the silence was broken, but this time, it was the bounty hunter.
“What about you? Where are you from? My suit has an idea going off your language but it still can’t pinpoint a location.”
“I was built in a lab by the Kirijo Group in Japan. I was designed to mimic the look of a human so that I may process my thoughts as a human would. The language I speak is Japanese but I can understand a variety of other languages. From French and English, all the way to canine.” The android said a lot of things Samus didn’t quite understand but there was one thing she said that confirmed something she was curious about.
“So you are a machine… Huh, guess it wasn’t a mistake. I thought you were a machine by looking at you but your mannerisms are extremely lifelike… It’s like you’re actually human…” Samus said. Aigis giggled.
“Thank you, Samus-san. I wasn’t always like this, though. I used to be nothing but a mere machine who only wanted to accomplish its mission… but after an incident, something inside me changed and with the help of someone very dear to me, I learned to understand these feelings… I began to feel more… human…” The anti-shadow weapon spoke as she looked down. Samus didn’t say anything. She could tell this was reaching into very personal territory and seeing how they’d only met a few minutes ago, she didn’t want to pry. Once the android noticed the silence, she turned back toward the woman in armor.
“Oh! I’m sorry! I didn’t dampen the mood again, did I?” Aigis worriedly asked.
“No, no, you’re fine. I was just listening.” Samus said as she waved her hand around slightly.
“Thank goodness… “ Aigis let out a sigh of relief. Another moment of silence…
“So, do you have any idea how we got here?”
“Unfortunately, I do not. I can’t even remember the things that happened before I arrived here…”
“That makes the two of us.”
“Samus-san… Do you mind if I propose an idea?”
“Go ahead.”
“I know we just met and our first meeting wasn’t exactly the… greatest one… but I propose that we team up. With the two of us working together, it’ll make finding the answer to our situation quicker and easier!” Aigis said. Samus looked at her before turning her head away. She was… hesitant to accept her offer… but eventually, she let out a sigh.
“That would be our best option.”
“Wonderful!” The android smiled as she put her hands together. As usual, Samus stayed quiet as she looked into the dimly lit flame. Suddenly, someone yawned… Surprisingly, it was Aigis.
“I didn't think an android could get tired.” Samus spoke.
“I did say I ended up becoming more human that day.” Aigis responded with a chuckle.
“You should get some rest, I’ll keep watch over you.”
“But what about you? Aren’t you tired?”
“I’m fine.”
“I… Alright. Good night, Samus-san.”
“Good night, Aigis.”
