Work Text:
Playing a cord on your piano, you make a face. The sound didn't fit the song you were writing. You shift your fingers and press down on a different combination of keys, hoping it would sound better, but that cord didn't work either.
You let out a sigh, staring down at the keys, not sure what to do. You shift your gaze to the lyrics you'd written in your notebook, hoping that if you reread them, you'd get more ideas.
As you read, you play the melody you'd already settled on, singing softly to yourself. Your fingers fly across the keys as you sing, getting lost in your song.
You'd been working on this song for weeks. You were really proud of the lyrics, and even more proud of the fact that you'd been able to create a melody to go along with them. Though the melody was giving you issues at the moment, you were still able to appreciate the work you'd done so far as you play, the world around you fading away.
As you play, a figure stepps into the doorway of your bedroom. His calm blue eyes rest on you, a soft smile curving his lips as he listens to you sing, your fingers moving gracefully across the keys of your piano. The window beside you let in the soft golden afternoon sunlight, making your H/L H/C hair shine and your E/C eyes sparkle. There was a peaceful happy expression on your pretty features, making his heart flutter. You were a truly beautiful girl, especially when you smiled.
He didn't want to bother you, so he simply leaned against the doorframe, listening to your song. He always loved hearing the things you created, even if they weren't finished, or you didn't think they sounded very good.
However, both of you were snapped out of your spell when you stumbled over the cord you'd been having trouble with. He winced at the sharp sound and you let out a sigh.
"Damn. What sounds good? I don't even know anymore,” You groan, leaning back in your chair.
"Are you ok?" He asks, making you jump as he enters the room.
You turn around in your chair, smiling when you see whose walking toward you. Your boyfriend, Luka.
"Hi. How long have you been here?” You ask, standing up and wrapping your arms around him and kissing his cheek.
"Long enough to hear that this new one is great,” Luka answers, holding you close and smiling down at you.
"Thanks Love. I'm glad you like it. I've just gotta finish the rest," You answer with a sigh.
"Having trouble?" He asks and you nod.
"I've got most of the song finished. It's just this little bit I can't figure out. I want it to sound a little different from the rest of the song, but I'm not sure how to make it work,” You explain, resting your head on Luka's shoulder.
"Can I help?" He asks.
"Please," You say, slipping out of his arms and stepping to the side, letting him sit down in your chair.
He reads through your lyrics and the notes you've already written before moving his guitar to his lap. He begins to play, looking up at you to signal that you should sing.
You smile as you sing along, swaying as you listen to your boyfriend's playing. Luka smiles as he listens to you sing, wishing he could look at you, but he had to keep his eyes on the music. At least he could hear you.
As the iffy part of the song approached, you tensed up, ready for some sort of cord that didn't sound right. However, Luka simply continued to play, easily finding cords that fit both your voice, and the lyrics of the song without ruining the flow of the music.
Your eyes widened at the pretty sound, stumbling over your words a little before continuing. Luka smiled to himself as the two of you finished the song, glad to hear happiness in your voice as you sang.
Once you finish, you turn and carefully take Luka's guitar from him, resting it on your bed. You turn back to him and grab his hand, pulling him up and into your arms, hugging him tightly.
"That was beautiful! Thank you!” You exclaim, pulling back to give him a soft kiss on the lips.
"Of course Y/N. I'm glad you liked it, and I'm glad i was able to help," He answers, kissing your temple before gently pulling away from you in order to write the notes he'd played in your music before he forgot.
"I loved it. The cords you played fit perfectly,” You tell him.
"And done," You add, watching him write the last note.
"Thank you Luka," You say, kissing his cheek.
"No problem," He answers.
"Can we play it again?” You ask.
"You want me to play with you?” He asks, a little surprised.
"Of course. I always love making music with you, it's way better than doing it alone," You tell him.
"Ok, but how about you play piano this time? I'll play along on my guitar,” He suggests, grabbing his guitar and sitting on your bed.
"Sure," You answer, sitting in front of your piano and moving the music so Luka can read it too before beginning to play.
Luka begins to strum his guitar, playing along with you, though the notes he played were different. They complimented your melody beautifully, making the song sound even better. Once you began to sing, the song was perfect, causing both of you to smile.
The two of you were both very talented, everyone said so. You both had made music in the past all on your own, and people had said it was beautiful, but you sounded even better together. Maybe that was why you were having so much trouble finishing this song before, because you weren't meant to play it alone. You needed a little help.
