Work Text:
It was a relatively uneventful day as Y/N lay on the couch opposite Feyre. She Lay with her eyes closed while Feyre talked. Though she was listening, Y/N only responded with small murmurs of response. Feyre didn’t mind in the slightest, the two were just happy in one another’s company.
Feyre had suddenly stopped speaking and Y/N opened her eyes and glanced at her friend. She looked lost in thought as she communicated with someone. Feyre’s eyebrows furrowed together.
“Azriel’s back,” Feyre said.
“Is he okay?” Y/N asked, shuffling up on the couch.
For three weeks Azriel had been away on a task Rhys had set him and Y/N had missed him terribly.
Feyre quickly nodded. “Rhys said he was okay but he’s just tired.”
“Is he coming here?”
Before Feyre could respond, shadows wrapped around Y/N’s wrists. She felt the coolness of them as they gently caressed her skin before recoiling back to the entrance of the room. Azriel stood in the threshold looking completely exhausted.
Feyre greeted him with a small smile as she began to step closer, a small limp to his steps. Y/N’s eyebrows furrowed in concern. Azriel slumped down on the couch next to her, his wings tucked in tightly.
“You okay?” Y/N questioned as Azriel rested his head on the back of the couch.
His attention was shifted to her. His hazel eyes she loved too much bore into hers. From the couch across Feyre smiled at the two before standing up.
“I’m going to find Rhys,” Feyre said and pressed a parted kiss against Y/N’s cheek. “I’ll see you tomorrow.”
Y/N smiled at Feyre and turned her attention back to Azriel who hadn’t broken his gaze from Y/N.
“You still haven’t answered my question,” Y/N said.
Azriel huffed before he slowly moved, parted Y/N’s legs so he could easily rest his head on her stomach. Y/N went rigid as he got comfortable before slowly relaxing. She brought her hand to his hair and ran her fingers through it.
“I’m just aching,” Azriel finally answered, his arms wrapping around her middle.
“Well why don’t you go and lay down in your own bed?” Y/N suggested, though deep down she didn’t want him to move. “It will surely be more comfortable for you.”
The grip Azriel had on her tightened as he shook his head. “I want to stay here with you.”
Y/N sighed knowing that now Azriel was adamant, it would be hard to change his mind. She continued to run her fingers through his hair, her nails lightly scratching his scalp. Y/N heard Azriel sigh in delight.
Y/N smiled before she began to massage Azriel’s head as he relaxed further into her, his body becoming heavy.
“I missed you while you were away,” Y/N began. “I’m normally used to you appearing behind me and scaring the shit out of me. Even though I say I hate it, I secretly love it.”
Azriel lifted his head and shuffled further up the couch until his head now rested in the crook of Y/N’s neck. Y/N flushed. She had hugged Azriel multiple times before and felt his body against hers but now with his body fully pinning her to the couch and his head burning in the cross of her neck, she felt hot.
Y/N moved one of her hands to cradle the back of his head, resuming the head massage she was previously giving him, and with her other hand she intertwined her finger’s with his, squeezing his hand the smallest amount.
“I missed you too,” Azriel mumbled into her neck and Y/N felt the brush of his lips against it. “I was happy for the mission to be over.”
Y/N’s heart swelled. “Well I will need to tell Rhys to not send you on any more missions for a while because I want you to stay here with me.”
Azriel smiled. “You can keep me for as long as you like.”
Y/N smiled as Azriel lifted his head to look at her. His hazel eyes were full of exhaustion though he was smiling, his gaze shifting from her eyes to her lips.
“And how long would you like me to keep you?” Y/N questioned. She could feel the shift in the room.
Azriel’s hand cupped her cheek, his thumb brushing her cheekbone. “Forever if you want.”
Y/N leaned into his touch and closed her eyes. Her relationship with Azriel had always been a complicated one. They both knew that they liked one another but never acted on those feelings for many reasons. The one that trumped them all was if their feelings ruined their friendship. It took a lot to break Azriel down, but if Y/N walked away from him, he was sure it would shatter him and he would never be able to be put back together.
“Do you mean that?” Y/N asked, finally opening her eyes.
“I do,” Azriel muttered, his lips brushing over hers, so lightly that they barely touched.
“Why now?” Y/N said. “After all this time, why now?”
Azriel’s gaze softened. “I think we’ve wasted enough time.”
Finally their lips touched, emotion surging through them. It was everything the two of them wanted. The kiss wasn’t hurried nor was it intense. There was still a small hesitance to the kiss, as if they could run their friendship at any moment.
That was when they both felt it. The feeling of a pull in their chests. The feeling of something snapping into place neither of the two realised was out of place.
Y/N was the first to pull away, wide eyed. She panted heavily, shocked by the revelation. Azriel looked at her, his heart beat rapidly in his chest. The two only stared at each other in silence.
“You’re my mate,” Azriel finally muttered. He swallowed before he smiled. “You’re my mate.”
Y/N, though still in shock, smiled with him. “And you are mine.”
Their lips touched once more and there was no hint of hesitance to it. They moulded together perfectly, their bodies moved as one. They were made for one another.
Y/N’s fingers ran through his hair before remaining on the back of his neck, pulling him closer. Azriel obliged, shuffling until he hovered above Y/N, his body completely pressed against hers. Not once did he break their kiss.
Y/N felt his arm snake around her waist, his hands brushing the bare skin where her top had ridden up. She shivered at the contact and squeezed his hand.
Azriel broke the kiss and rested his forehead against Y/N’s. “I always hoped that it would be you.” He pecked her lips once more before he slowly began to trail kisses along her jaw. “Even if you weren’t, I would pick you over anyone.”
Y/N squeezed his hand once more and closed her eyes, lost in the feeling of his lips on her skin. He left goosebumps in his wake.
“I could never imagine myself with anyone but you,” Azriel said. “For centuries, I have loved you and now I can call you mine.”
Y/N opened her eyes, her hand cupped Azriel’s cheek and forced him to look at her. Her heart melted at the sight. The emotion swirling in Azriel’s eyes was one she had never seen before but it was meant just for her. No one else would witness the look directed towards them. No one else would feel the pure love and adoration he was giving to Y/N. She was happy about it. Azriel was hers and she was his.
“You are mine, Azriel,” Y/N whispered. “And I am yours.”
