Chapter Text

There was an empty classroom at the end of the hall they liked. It was open and airy, and overlooked the main courtyard where they could hear the relaxed chatter of their classmates below. Most importantly, it had a great big whiteboard they could use to study.

Tsukishima had been looking forward to lunch more than usual today since his mom had packed him a slice of cake as a birthday treat.

"Oh." Said Yamaguchi, noticing the cake as he pulled it out.

Tsuki looked over to Yamaguchi, who was holding a cupcake clearly meant for him.

"Oh..." He repeated, somewhat surprised. He paused for a moment, the Tupperware containing the cake hovering above the desk, before holding it out to Yamaguchi. "Here, let's trade."

"Oh!" Now Yamaguchi seemed surprised, but leaned over to grab the Tupperware and placed the cupcake in front of his friend. "Happy birthday, Tsuki!" he added sheepishly.

"Thanks" Tsuki replied, touched.

Lunch passed amicably and they ate quickly so they could practice for their exam next period. They walked up to the board and noticed the classroom had been restocked with new markers and erasers.

"Look! It's called 'Little Giant'!" Yamaguchi snickered, holding up the whiteboard eraser.

Tsuki laughed. "Five inches huh? I can see why Hinata is so enamored with the idea of being a Little Giant."

Yamaguchi let out a bark of laughter. Tsuki smirked, pleased.

The new markers uncapped with a satisfying snap, and they both got to work. Soon, the board was filled with derivations.

"You really had to write out twenty five times five?" Tsuki teased as he looked over Yamaguchi's work.

"Hey, I get nervous!" Yamaguchi exclaimed, "You're no better, I see you added the fractions on the side!" He pointed at corner of the board.

"Shut up" Tsuki said, grabbing the whiteboard eraser quicker than necessary. The eraser glided over the board, completely erasing the offending calculations.

He paused. The part of the board he'd erased looked new now, almost miraculously so. He swept his arm in a big arc and sure enough, anything that passed under the new eraser became satisfyingly clean.

He glanced over to Yamaguchi, whose mouth had opened slightly in surprise.

"Shut up" he said again.
