Work Text:
It all happened so quickly. First, he was at the mall, enjoying the day with a few of his classmates. It was supposed to be a day of fun and relaxation. A day to enjoy their time off before the busyness of the next week. After all, being 3rd years was taxing. Yes, their first year was filled with life-and-death scenarios, but their last year was becoming unique in itself. It was proving to be the most demanding and busy year yet.
But, instead of their day being a joyous one, Midoriya had to get kidnapped. Right under his friend’s noses. And of course, it had to happen when he ventured off on his own to look at merchandise at the hero memorabilia store.
He turned into a corner and bumped into a man. Midoriya apologized and continued his trek. The guy, however, followed him closely, Midoriya oblivious of his quiet follower.
Suddenly, he started to feel dizzy and very tired. He stumbled to a corner, away from eyes that were obviously noticing his odd behavior.
Was he getting sick? He wondered. Could it have been what he had eaten?
Or…could it have been an attack?
Maybe. His symptoms did happen as soon as he bumped into that man…
And that’s when it clicked. Panicked, he searched for his phone. If it was an attack, and if that man was involved, then he was a sitting duck. He had to warn someone.
He pulled out the device, but before he could call one of his friends. The man he bumped into previously suddenly appeared. Midoriya’s hazy eyes widened in horror.
“Hello there, mister one-of-UA’s-big-three.”
The man was swaying dangerously in Midoriya’s vision. He was right, this was an attack. He felt like he was enveloped in a haze, but even in his clouded mind, he knew he was in trouble.
“Hel—” His weak yell was muffled by a large, gloved hand.
Midoriya tried to free himself. He kicked and flailed his arms, trying desperately to escape his hold and warn someone before it was too late. But it was no use. His body was going numb and the fogginess in his mind was getting worse. His body was failing to respond, his limbs becoming detached and muted.
Before he knew it, his body shut down, unconsciousness grabbing him, forcing him into a deep slumber, at the mercy of his captors’ hands.
The next thing he remembered was waking up, chained to a large wooden chair. Around his head was a large metal band forcing him against the headrest while metal bands chained his wrists and ankles onto the leg and armrests.
Midoriya tried to look around, attempting to understand where he was…but he couldn’t see. It was pitch dark; he could barely see if at all, making his already precarious situation worse. But, before he could scream, two bright lights flickered on. Each beam aimed at his restrained body.
He winced as the bright lights strained his tired and uncustomed eyes. Once his vision adapted, he noticed an odd device pointing at him. Was it a camera?
“Finally, you are awake, it took you long enough. I told that boy a million times to control the output of his quirk. I can’t have my subject sleeping the week away.”
A woman walked into view. She was dressed in a full black tactical attire with a belt containing various hand-held weapons. Her dark hair was pulled into a tight bun, no flyaways to be seen. The woman approached him, carrying what looked like a cloth face mask and a small white bottle.
Midoriya followed her movements to the best of his ability, the metal band on his head preventing his mobility. What did this woman want? What was going on?
“I’m sure you're confused as to why you are here.” The woman grabbed a nearby stool and sat down right in front of him, setting the items on her lap. Midoriya looked at the mysterious objects, wondering what they were for, “As you see, your reputation is quite alluring. One of the big three of UA and the one predicted to be the future number one hero, that is quite impressive indeed.”
Midoriya tried to free himself. He pulled against his restraints and tried to call One for All…but strangely his quirk was nowhere to be found.
“Not only that but your One for All quirk is something truly amazing…I’m sure All Might is proud of the legacy you’ve left so far.”
“Shut the hell up.” Midoriya sneered, “Who the hell are you and what do you want with me?”
“Sheez, you're quite pushy. I was getting there…well, we are interested in what you can offer us.”
“If you think I’ll work for you, you are delusional!” Midoriya spat.
The woman laughed, “Oh no! We don’t need your kind working for us. I was talking more about what you can offer to us in terms of compensation.”
“Huh?” Midoriya was confused. Did they want money from him? He is just a high school student; he doesn’t have that kind of wealth for them to exploit.
The woman smiled, “I know you can’t offer us much…but All Might and UA can. Once they see the state that their precious star student is in, they will gladly offer the money we so request.”
“Like in hell, I’ll let that happen! I will escape from this. I will not let you drain their money just for your own selfish needs!”
“Hm.” The woman grabbed the bottle and the mask from her lap. She unopened it, the smell was pungently sweet, “You will not escape, and they will agree. I’ll force them to accept my demands.”
The woman brought the bottle to Midoriya’s eyes and swirled it along his vision, the scent spreading, “You know what this is?”
The young hero was nervous to answer.
“It’s chloroform,” She then doused the contents from the bottle into the mask, “Inhaling it in small quantities for a very short period won’t hurt someone, it’ll only make that person tired and dizzy. They may get a headache afterward, but that’s it. But at large quantities and if inhaled for a long time it can kill in a matter of minutes. First, the person will go numb, then they’ll fall unconscious. After that, death will follow. We’ve manufactured this drug to be less volatile and highly concentrated, yet ensuring the effects, once inhaled, are gradual. So instead of dying instantly, that person will die in about a few hours of exposure. But…considering your impressive body composition, I will say continuous exposure to this would kill you in say…a day?”
Midoriya’s eyes widened, petrified by her explanation.
Chloroform.
The mention of that drug sent shivers down his spine. His class was given a lesson on the various kinds of drugs that they may encounter in their pro-hero career. One of them being chloroform. A pungent, clear substance commonly used for kidnappings. He knew about the dangers, she didn’t have to specify, but hearing what she had in mind horrified him.
He had to escape, now.
As the woman stood up and grabbed the soaked face mask, Midoriya attempted to wriggle himself out of his bindings. He pulled and tugged against the metal, but no matter what he did, it would not budge. He was stuck, completely defenseless with nowhere to run.
“Now, be a good boy and stay still,” She grasped the mask in her hands and carefully looped one ear loop on his ear. Midoriya moved his head frantically, trying to pry the drug-soaked mask off before it was fully placed on his nose and mouth.
“Get that thing away from me!” He shouted whilst squirming and wiggling.
She ignored him.
She pulled the mask across his face and looped the other ear loop on the other ear. Securing the mask.
Not willing to give up, he held his breath. He wasn’t going to breathe…he was not going to let her win. If he died from suffocation then be it.
“Ugh! I don’t have time for your games! I am on a time crunch!” Without notice, the woman sent a strong slap squarely on his face.
The jolt forced him to take a breath, the pungently sweet smell penetrating his scent. Fear struck him. Immediately he held his breath, noticing his mistake.
But it was too late. The damage has been done.
Instantaneously, the world began to sway, and sounds started to muffle as if he were being submerged underwater. His body stopped struggling as his limbs relaxed. His breathing slow down to deep and steady breaths, taking in more of the drugged scent. His eyes glazed over as his vision began to blur and distort.
The villain noticed the change in his demeanor and smiled.
“Good job, Midoriya. Now we can begin.”
Midoriya tried to focus on her blurry image. Everything was too…distant. He felt disconnected, floaty, and numb.
The young hero noticed the uptick of movement around him…too much for him to focus on. A lot was happening. People moved across his gaze, each a fuzzy mishmash of colors in his drugged-induced vision. More lights shined on him, straining his glassy eyes. Then he noticed the same device pointed at him, but this time, someone was managing the machine.
“Are you recording?” Her voice boomed.
“W’at.” He slurred; his speech muffled by the thick mask.
“Ready, ma’am.”
Then she stepped in front of him. Letting the camera capture her image.
“UA, All Might, and all those who see this. My name is Rouge and I have someone who may be of interest to you. Say hi Midoriya.”
Rogue moved away and let the camera shine on him. He looked up, his eyes glancing at the device, but he immediately let his eyes drop. To out of it, he let his head loll weakly, the metal band being the only thing keeping his head upright.
“Not very vocal, aren’t we? You were so chatty just a few seconds ago. But I can’t blame you, those drugs are quite powerful.” She voiced, standing next to the defenseless teen.
“Anyway, if you ever want to see your precious student, I simply ask one request. On the link I provided, I want you to add $1 billion yens and send it directly to me. And you better hurry,” She looked at the half-conscious teenager, “What he is breathing right now is pure chloroform. I won’t remove that mask until you meet my demands…and well, if you take too long, you will have to say goodbye to this little hero of yours.”
Even in his haze, Midoriya wanted to scream. To demand them to not follow her request, to not submit to her demands. But instead, a low groan escaped from his covered mouth.
“Considering his incredible body structure, I would say he has about 24 hours before he topples over. So, you better make it quick.” She sat down on the same stool she was sitting before, “Once we receive what we are asking. We’ll send the coordinates for you to locate your dear student. I look forward to your transaction.”
The red light on the camera stopped, signaling the end of the recording.
“Good, we are done here, send that over to UA, quickly. I’m going to head out, I have some preparations to do.” She glanced at Midoriya, his eyes partially closed and his energy completely exhausted, “Let’s see if someone responds. Or this may be the last time I see you, alive. Have fun, Midoriya.”
With that, she and the rest of the personnel left, removing all of the lights, and leaving Midoriya alone in the pitch-dark room.
Too exhausted, he let his eyes close. This is where he was going to meet his end, in a dark room, drugged, and by himself. Maybe he will be rescued or maybe they’ll meet their demands and he’ll be found.
He was so disoriented. Completely delirious from the drugs. He let sleep pull him in wondering if he’ll wake up once the next day rolled around.
