*Ciel’s POV*
[‘ ‘ = thinking, “ “ = speaking]
I slowly opened my eyes, seeing the usual scene. Sebastian opening the curtains and a tray of tea on my bedside table. Sebastian walked over to my closet, bringing out my clothes for today, walking back and starting to dress me.
“Sebastian, what’s my schedule today?” I asked, hoping that I didn’t get too much work for today.
“The queen has one case for you, young master” He replied, tying my neck tie.
“What is it?” This better not be bullshit.
“A man was murdered. Interestingly enough, the murderer left a note in the victim’s pocket.” Sebastion stated, tying up my eyepatch.
“Has anyone read it yet?” I questioned, taking the cup of tea Sebastian handed to me.Taking a sip.
“No sir, the queen only wanted you to read it.” He stated, pulling out a light red envelope.
Interesting enough.
I finished my tea, setting it down. Taking the envelope from Sebastian's hands, carefully opening it, reading it.
‘This man and many others like him will feel my wrath. If you try to stop me, be warned that you will be my enemy and die as well. This is the one and only warning.’ I read, noting the peculiar writing style. It was very neat.
I looked up at Sebastian, who only looked at me with a knowing smile. Seems we’re thinking the same thing.
*Sebastian’s POV*
I could tell what the young master wanted to do. Go to the crime scene. Luckily, it’s still being surveyed. So, after getting a good breakfast in him, he set off for the town. The murder happened right on the edge of town, by the harbor. I led him over to the blocked off scene, police and detectives speculating all around it. But then, that damned chief blocked our path. I can’t even be bothered to remember his name, to be honest.
“Stop right there Ciel.” He stated, holding his hand to signal us to stop.
Unnecessary really.
“Why should I?” The young master retorted, stepping in front of me. Giving the officer a glare.
“Because. Now you're going to need a…” He paused.
“A what?” MY master said with a sigh.
“A warrant.” He finally stated, with a very proud voice.
“Fine then.” The master stated with a bit of a snarl.
He’s so much like a kitten when he gets angry. It's adorable.
The young master then turned, walking off to ask the queen for a warrant. It was likely the faster option then going through the police who aren’t very big fans of us.
I turned, going to follow him when I felt a tug on my sleeve.
“Why don’t you join our police, or even a detective agency?” That same officer questioned, letting go of my sleeve. “You’d be spectacular.”
“My apologies, but I’m merely a butler.” I responded, quickly walking off. Going over to where Ciel stood with an annoyed look on his face.
“Well, what did he want now?” He questioned with a bit of a rougher tone. It was always interesting to see him show any type of emotion.
“He wanted me to join the police force or a detective agency.” I replied calmly, I mean. It wasn’t as if I was going anywhere for quite some time.
Ciel’s shoulders slumped as he glared at the officer with what looked like…jealousy? Hatred? Something like that.
*Ciel’s POV*
I glared at the chief. He was already ticking me off with his dumb warrant antics. But, it was a legal thing and I could let that slide. But trying to take away my Sebastian!?
Wait what.
Whatever. This is nonsense.
I turned, starting my path towards the castle.
*Sebastian's POV*
After a while of walking, we reached the queen's castle. I looked down at Ciel, who still looked ticked off. But, he also had some red dusting his cheeks, I was slightly tempted to point it out. He looked slightly more adorable than usual.
But that’s getting off track. We walked inside, going to the queen's assistant. He looked a bit shaken up, although Ciel didn’t seem to notice.
Or he didn’t care. Which is a larger possibility.
But still, Ciel went about talking to him about this ‘warrant’. Apparently, we didn’t need a warrant at all. Since Ciel was the queen's guard dog. Seems like we were lied to.
Then the assistant gulped, and then he spoke.
“Um…the queen would like to buy your butler. Sir Phantomhive.” He stated, clearly trying his best not to stutter.
The young master stared up at him as if he was the man who killed his family.
“No. Sebastian is important to the manor.” He stated through gritted teeth. Sounding much more venomous and cold than usual.
“I-I see…and how is that?” Engel responded.
“None of your business frankly.” He responded with a glare, turning around and walking away. I quickly followed suit.
Once we reached the outside he signaled for me to bend down. Once I did he whispered in my ear.
“Keep your guard up from now on Sebastian. Something is going on in that castle.” He stated, straightening up his posture, making his way back to the crime scene.
“Yes, sir.” I responded, following after him.

*POV*
[‘ ‘ = thinking, “ “ = speaking]
*Ciel’s POV*
I walked through the halls, Sebastian was in the library, giving me a curious glance. It’s always annoying when he does that. I sighed, going to my study. There’s only been one thing on my mind for the past few days. Getting past that Chief.
I walked into my study, taking a seat on the chair, picking up some paper from the desk. I started to read through them. There the records for murder cases, I need to find out if anyone else has been killed and a similar note was left on their body. I also, again, need a way to get past that chief. He’s going to be a thorn in my side. A big one.
A few hours later I heard a knocking at the door, I sighed and stood up, walking over to the door, opening it.
“Ye-” I immediately got cut off with Elizabeth hugging me.
“AH! Hi Ciely!” She yelled in my ear.
Lovely. Just peachy.
I sighed, looking over in the hallway, Sebastian was standing there, glaring at Elizabeth with hatred. Interesting.
“Elizabeth…let go..” I grumbled. This girl barely let me have air. Literally.
“Sorry!” Shen giggled, letting go, stepping a few inches away.
‘Satan help me.’ I thought, ‘I’m getting very tired of these antics’
Speaking of, I looked up to the hallway again, seeing Sebastian. Although now he was giving me that smile of his. And for some reason I felt my face getting warmer. I huffed, looking back to Elizabeth.
It’s not that Elizabeth isn’t a nice girl, but she definitely is not somebody I’d get married to. Too hyper. And pink. Then again, I’M the head of the house now, aren’t I? I could just close this engagement whenever I want. What’s anybody else going to do? My house, my rules.
And my rule is not getting married.
I looked over at my desk, my face immediately falling in annoyance after seeing Elizabeth going through my papers. Just great. Great.
Elizabeth must’ve seen how my face looked because she looked over at me and asked “What’s wrong?”
Better late than never.
I sighed, rubbing my temple. “Elizabeth, I have something to tell you. But you're not going to like it.”
She put the papers down, walking over to me with a cheery smile “What is it?” She asked.
“Elizabeth…I’m calling off the engagement.” I stated, looking up at her.
Her face immediately dropped, some tears welling in her eyes.
"W-well!- FINE!” She yelled, stomping out.
Well….Tear off the bandaid right?
*Sebastian’s POV*
I watched the young masters study door fly open, Lady Elizabeth running out and running to the carriage outside the manor.
Amusing, and pitiful.
I turned back to my young masters study, walking over to the door, leaning in. Ciel wawa in the middle of the oversized study, his hand on his face. Seems like he knew that was going to cause a headache.
“I knew that was going to happen…” He grumbled to himself. Young Ciel is quite adorable, isn’t he?
I walked over to him, looking down at him. “If I may ask, what happened young master?”
The young master looked up at me, sighing. “I called off the engagement…” I smiled, nodding. “I see..” I walked over to him, studying the crimson in his cheeks.
The young master quickly huffed, turning back to his desk, random murder case files stacked all over it, as well as files on some people in the police force and some detective’s files. I held in a chuckle as I saw Ciel sitting in his chair, picking up some papers and hiding his face with them.
I grinned, walking over to his side, looking down at him. I saw his face go just a shade redder, I slipped out a small chuckle. I took the papers in his hands, setting them back down on the desk. He looked up at me.
“Do you need something, Sebastian?” He questioned.
“No, not at all,” I grinned, kissing his cheek.
I quickly turned, walking out of the study. Catching a glimpse of my young master's face turning a shade of bright red. I smirked, walking in the direction of the kitchen. It’s almost lunch.

*Ciel’s POV*
[‘ ‘ = thinking, “ “ = Speaking]
‘Well, I sure had some work cut out for me, but I got that chief out of my way. The files they’ve made about the man will be sent here soon. I suppose I can take a small break now.’ I thought, getting up from my chair.
I sent out the others to go do some shopping for the manor. Sebastian apparently had a big list of things to get.
‘So, for a few hours it’ll just be me and Sebastian in the house,’ I thought as I walked down the hallway, going near the library.
I felt someone tap my shoulder, and I turned around seeing Sebastian.
“Hello master” He said, his face seemed slightly distracted.
“Do-” I got cut off by Sebastian
“There’s an uninvited guest today…” He whispered in my ear, watching the library door.
Of Course there is, I can't have some peace and quiet can I? But, Sebastian is here. So this should be dealt with easily.
I nodded, walking back to my study,, I entered it, as I closed the door I saw Sebastian walking further down the hallway. I sighed, going back to my desk, picking up some reports, reading through them.
[A few hours later]
It had been a few hours and I’d heard nothing in the rest of the manor, so I got up, yawning, and walked out into the hallway. I walked past the library, and immediately got grabbed and dragged into the library.
I stared up at the man who’d grabbed me, I didn’t recognize him. He was a slightly taller man with darker brown hair and green eyes. We were staring each other down when I saw him pull a knife from my pocket. He put the knife to my neck, and I heard the slight ‘tap tap’ of Sebastian's shoes walking towards the room.
“Shit….” The man said under his breath.
The door opened slowly, revealing Sebastian. I looked up at him, and he looked down at me. Then to the man, he just smiled and walked over.
“Hey! Stay away! Or- I’ll kill this little fucking brat!” He shouted at Sebastian, pressing the knife harder onto my throat, cutting it slightly. I winced. Looking at Sebastian, standing a few feet from us.

Chapter Text
*Sebastian’s POV*
[‘ ‘ = thinking, “ “ = speaking]
I stared at the man holding Ciel by the back with a knife to his throat, I took one step forward and Ciel winced due to the knife being pressed against his neck harder. I looked between the two, assessing the situation. The man wasn’t all that well built, he seemed fairly lanky as well. I could bet that I had a good chance with wrestling him down. Like taming a pig. Of Course the only problem is the knife currently gently cutting into my young master's neck. That is the only problem, I’ll have to be quick. Obviously, I’m much faster than this human man, hell he already looks intimidated.
I took a breath. I had a plan. If I could just get this man's guard down, then this would be a piece of cake.
The question is how do I do that…? Well, he seems taken off guard already. So maybe something simple. A smile, maybe.
I took a small breath, looking the man in the eyes. I did a slight smile, and just as predicted it caught the man slightly off-guard. I took the opportunity and quickly closed the distance between the two of us, grabbing the man's arm, twisting it. Disarming him and throwing him to the ground. I held the knife up in my hand, looking at it watching the slight blood from Ciel drip down the blade. I looked back down to the man, picking him up and taking him to the basement of the manor.
When I’m done with him, it’ll send a message to whoever sent this man. A message to the messenger if you will.
Once I finished tying the man to a chair and shoving him into a dark corner of the basement. I suddenly remembered Ciel, I quickly turned, bolting up the stairs. I opened the doors to the study, looking down at Ciel who was holding the slight cut on his neck. I crouched down neck to him, moving his hands away. Inspecting the cut, I let out a sigh of relief. The cut wasn’t that deep, and didn't look particularly nasty either.
I picked him up, heading to the bathroom, I sat him down on the sink. I reached into the cabinets, pulling out the bandages and some cleaner. I carefully cleaned the wound, putting a bandage on it. Inspecting it for any imperfections or any openings for bacteria to come in through. Ciel looked up at me, then felt the bandage. I looked into his eye and saw a rare emotion for Ciel, fear. Then I noticed the slight trembling his body was doing.
I sighed, picking the young master up again. Walking towards his bedroom, it was slightly surreal, seeing the young master even slightly shaken up. He’d faced off some of the worst things and I’d gotten used to seeing him stone-faced in all types of situations.
Now I really want to see that man's blood spilled. If anybody could terrorize my young master, it’d be me. Not some random scrawny man with a pathetic twig for a knife. Now that, really pisses me off.

Chapter Text
*Ciel’s POV*
[‘ ‘ = thinking, “ “ = Speaking]
I shivered as Sebastian sat me down on my bed. It was rare that I ever even got so much as a scratch since I’d made a deal with Sebastian. But I could feel it, that man was so close to slicing my neck. The fact more people like that could be sent didn’t exactly help the uneasiness of my stomach. Sebastian slightly pet my hair and walked off, a few minutes later he walked back in with a tray of tea. Setting it down on my bedside table, serving me a cup of Earl Grey. I let out a shaky breath, taking the cup from him, taking a small sip.
“I’ll take care of the man, I’ll be back soon young master” He said, standing up straight and walking out of my room.
*Sebastian’s POV*
I walked down the stairs to the basement, walking into the room I left the man in. He was awake now, and didn’t seem all too pleased I’d tied him up down here.
“You! Little fucker, let me go!” He sneered, glaring at me.
Humans. Some are so impolite.
“I have questions, you’re going to answer them.” I said as I walked up to him, looking down at him.
“I ain’t answering shit!” He cursed, glaring at me like I was scum.
“Oh, I think you will.” I said, pulling my gloves off.
[45 Minutes Later]
I sighed, dumping the last bit of dirt on the grave. In the end, I never got any answers. I got some ideas of who could have sent this man and we can just build up from there. I set the shovel back into the garden shed and walked back into the manor. Heading towards the bathroom to wash myself off.
*Ciel’s POV*
I yawned slightly, watching as the sun started to set. The only useful thing about a balcony is that you can see the sky more. Sunsets are always beautiful, they somehow slightly reminded me of Sebastian, perhaps because the light slightly envisioned hell. Sebastian's demon eyes are the only part of his actual demon form I’ve ever seen, and his eyes are kind of like the sunset.
I looked to the door of my room, watching Sebastian walk in and look over at me, smiling slightly. I noticed it looked like he recently washed up. Seems like that man was taken care of. He walked over to me, placing a hand on my shoulder.
“Time to get ready for bed young master, the others will be back any moment.” He said softly, gesturing to the door.
I sighed, nodding. Today was tiring, but I got my work done and Sebastian took care of that man. So I suppose it’s one chess piece at a time. I walked with Sebastian towards the bathroom, ready to just sleep the day off.
“We’re taking a visit to the undertaker tomorrow” I said, walking into the bathroom. Sebastian nodded.

Chapter Text
*Ciel’s POV*
[‘ ‘ = thinking, “ “ = speaking]
I sighed walking through the streets, heading to the undertaker’s. As me and Sebastain neared the Undertaker’s we looked up to the roof, seeing him up on the roof. We walked until we were in front of the building, looking up at the Undertaker.
“What are you doing up there?” I called up, causing the Undertaker to look down at us. He grinned and jumped down landing on his feet.
“Why hello Ciel.” He giggled out before gesturing for us to come inside with him.
We walked inside with him, heading towards the back.
“I have something to discuss with you.” I said, stopping in front of him.
He grinned wider “Yess?” He questioned, sitting down.
I sighed, going into detail about the man who had paid us a visit yesterday, explaining the few things Sebastian had learned from him. The undertaker sat there listening to it, before scratching his chin slightly.
“Hmm, maybe somebody don’t want you to look into that dead guy, eh?” He finally said after a few moments.
I nodded lightly “yes, but would you know anybody, or any information as to why?” I questioned, looking up at him raising an eyebrow.
He thought for a few moments before nodding, looking down at me.
“Maybe you should ask Lau, to me it sounds like something in his area.”
I nodded “thanks, we’ll be on our way then.” Me and Sebastian turned around, heading towards the door.
“Hey Ciel. Remember I need you to come in for measurements!” He laughed, tumbling backwards from his seat onto the floor.
I sighed, rubbing the bridge of my nose, walking back outside. We headed towards the market, looking through the stalls. Eventually we took a left to the downtown area and headed to the police station. We walked into the station and headed directly to the chief's office. Knocking on the door a soft ‘Come in..’ was muttered.
We walked into his office and his face immediately dropped, frowning as he scowled down at me.
“And what do you want?” He sneered.
I glared up at him, “The file for the recently murdered man.”
“Oh? And where is your warrant?” He smirked, leaning back in his chair.
“I fund more of your department than the queen does. Give me the files.” I said, crossing my arms and tapping my foot impatiently. I’d figured since I didn’t want to go through the trouble of getting a warrant, that I’d just intimidate him.
He stared at me for a few seconds, then gave a small grumble of annoyance. Then he stood up.
“One moment.” He practically growled out the sentence, then walked out of the room.
A few minutes later he walked back in, a large file in his hands. I smirked slightly, taking the folder from his hands.
“Pleasure doing business with you.” I stated, walking out of his office.
Me and Sebastian walked down the downtown market, then I stopped, eyeing a suspicious man in the crowd. Me and Sebastian slowly walked by, watching the man by some sort of vial. I looked up at Sebastian as he looked down at me, giving me a small nod. I looked forward again, and continued walking.
Once we reached the manor I sighed, walking back to my study with a brand new stack filled file to go through. I sat in the study the rest of the day, reading through the information and theories surrounding the man. I really would have to go ask questions to Lau. This was definitely something in his scene.
I stretched, then got up and walked downstairs for dinner, looking down at the soup Sebastian made.
‘Hm, something new.’ I thought, taking a sip of the soup, my head got a slight ache and I could feel myself passing out as I saw Sebastian entering the dining room.
“Sebast-..” was the last thing I could stutter out before passing out.

*Ciels POV*
[‘ ‘ = thinking, “ “ = speaking]
I slowly woke up, immediately feeling the headache and burning temperature of my body. Then I felt something damp and wet being placed on my forehead. I slowly opened my eyes, groaning. I looked up to see Sebastian sitting beside me on my bed, placing a cold damp washcloth on my forehead. He looked down at me and gave me a bit of a smile.
“Ah, hello sir, I see you’ve finally woken back up.” Sebastian said as he rubbed my forehead gently.
“Sebastian..? What happened” I questioned, my voice barely above a whisper. I suddenly felt as if I could throw up.
“Seems that soup has made you quite ill, master” He said, moving my blanket a bit off of me. I sighed in relief as the cold air hit some of my body.
I let out a shaky breath “I feel hot..” My voice was barely above a whisper.
Sebastian smiled at me, tending to the towel on my forehead.
The rest of the day I layed in bed, Sebastian brought me foods that are apparently known to help with illness. I drank a lot of ‘calming tea’ that Lau sent over when he heard I was sick.
Sick days weren’t as bad as I thought. It was nice to relax for a small bit. Although doing this for a long time would be horribly boring, besides I have too many goals I need to finish. But still, it was nice to be pampered more than usual by Sebastian for a while.
I woke up, my forehead still feeling hot as fire and felt another wet towel being placed on my forehead. I looked up, seeing Sebastian sitting on a chair right beside my bed. He smiled at me and handed me another cup of tea. I sighed, drinking the tea.
I looked to my window, seeing the sun slowly setting. I couldn’t believe I had slept most of the day yet I’m still tired. I feel like I could sleep for five more years. Sebastian got up and walked out, coming back a few minutes later with a bowl of chicken soup. He sat it down on my lap and I started to eat.
Sebastian's food is the best, unsurprisingly since he’s, well y’know. A demon. Honestly, I might ask him to make soup more often. It’s a nice break from solid meals. Once I finished my bowl Sebastian took it from me and fed me a spoon of some bad tasting medicine. I yawned, already half asleep again. Sebastian smiled at me as he tucked me in and left another cold rag on my forehead and my eyes slowly shut again as I felt a small, small kiss on my forehead.
