Soleil couldn't remember what made him like this, but he knew it wasn't good. He had been curled up and backed into a corner for at least an hour. He knew Fou must've been looking for him, he didn't care. Soleil felt tears bubble in his eyes.
"Soleil? Soleil??" Fou called. He'd basically turned the playhouse upside-down looking for Soleil. He wouldn't admit it but he was worried. Really worried. "Soleil?!" he exclaimed. A ribbon from Fou's crown fell over his eyes, he quickly brushed it away. He continued looking. Soleil wasn't in either play-areas or in the employees only. Fou wrapped one of his ribbons around his finger and sighed heavily. "It's okay... he couldn't have gone far," he reassured. He knew it wasn't true. He knew Soleil was sensitive and that one word could make them hide and burst into tears. Fou's eyes lit up, he softly let the ribbon go. Fou ran toward the arcade and burst through the door. The kids glanced at him, he didn't pay attention to them. He quickly zipped by all the children and slipped by the rope that cut the kids from accessing the rest of the room. There was a small carousel and stains, a lot of stains. Fou shook his head. He took a moment to catch his breath. He strode over to a corner. There was a bulletin board holding plenty of drawings from the kids, it was rather endearing. Fou grabbed the board and pushed it aside. The board had always been a blocking for the entrance but Fou didn't know what the original purpose of the room behind it was. A clubhouse for some children? He could believe that. He lifted a leg and stepped past the small border separating the two rooms. He turned around and grabbed the board. He returned it to its original place. Suddenly, the room got dark. He turned back to the hidden room. The room also had a carousel, but this one was bigger. It had different mythical creatures like dragons and unicorns. Soleil had always been a fan of those. Fou inhaled deeply and brushed off his shoulders. Fou turned his attention to something else, the sound of someone faintly crying. Now, it could be one of two things. One of the ghosts or Soleil. Fou hoped for the latter. He tip-toed through the room, the crying got slightly louder. "S-Soleil?" he called. His voice pierced the silence and the crying stopped. "F-Fou...?" the voice replied. It was Soleil.
Soleil pushed himself harder against the wall. More tears poured down his face, he wished xe could just rip his eyes out. That might stop the madness. "Soleil!" Fou exclaimed as he let out a sigh of relief. Soleil shut his eyes tightly, "W-What...?" he muttered. Soleil looked away, his jester hat's charms jingled. "Why are you back here?" Fou asked. Fou's heart was pounding out of his chest. He took a deep breath and walked toward the sound. And there xe was, curled up into ball. There were tears streaming down Soleil's face. "I... I'm just... it's nothing..." Soleil replied. They kept their gaze on the floor. Fou knelt down in front of him, "You know you can tell me anything right?" he said while one of his ribbons fell over his eyes. "I... I can't remember why I'm so... why I'm like this..." Soleil whispered, trying his best to not let any more tears out of his eyes. "Like what?" Fou asked, shuffling closer to Soleil. Soleil quickly locked eyes with Fou, "I... can't remember what made me this sensitive..." he replied softly. Fou reached out and touched Soleil's face. He had to distract himself from the fact he knew he couldn't fix this problem. He never could. "Well... did your parents do anything that could've made you sensitive?" he asked. Fou felt a lump form in his throat. Soleil quickly began crying again, "I... can't remember!" he yelled. Soleil was practically choking on his tears. Xe quickly pressed their hands against their ears and shut their eyes tightly. Fou's heart started to pound harder. He pulled his hand away from Soleil's face. In all the time Soleil and Fou had been together, Fou wasn't sure if it'd work out. He'd been told that Soleil was insane and that it'd be impossible to date such a lunatic. But he did it anyway and he never regretted a second of it. Fou's breath hitched. He wanted to fix this. He wanted to. Wanted. He always wanted to solve problems he couldn't fix. Soleil began to hyperventilate. They grabbed the tips of their hat and yanked them down. The little heart and star charms jingled. It rang in Fou's ears. "Soleil..." Fou began. Soleil's breathing slowed down a little as he opened his eyes. "Can... can you just look at me? Just for one second?" Fou asked. Soleil looked at him somberly, a tear falling down his cheek, "Thanks..." Fou replied softly. Now, where did he start? Soleil's grip tightened on the tips of his hat, "I... I remember..." he muttered. Fou's eyes flashed, "What is it?"
"Well... when I was younger... I had this friend..." Soleil began, more tears bubbling in his eyes. "And he... well, he yelled a lot..." he continued. Fou listened closely, "I r-really liked him... so I asked him if he'd... if he'd want to go out to e-eat..." Soleil added. Fou's heart pounded, he didn't like the direction this was going. "He got mad... really mad..." xe said softly. "Well, he called me a... a... you know. Then, he d-decided to show me... what happens to 'sinners'..." he finished. Fou clenched his fists, he was going to scream. Soleil's lip quivered, he tried to stop the tears. But he couldn't. Like always. "Did he hit you...?" Fou asked. Soleil shook their head, "No... he... uhm... s-se-" xe cut themself off. He bit his lip in an attempt to not start crying harder. "T-Touched... m-me..." he said. Fou clenched his fists harder, he was going to explode. He swallowed the lump that was growing in his throat. Fou inhaled deeply. He relaxed his hands and reached out for Soleil's. Soleil looked at him and released their grip on their hat. He placed his hands in Fou's. "I-I'm sorry..." he whispered. Fou smiled, "Don't be... it's okay... especially after you went through something so... disgusting..." he replied. More tears dripped down Soleil's face. They smiled back weakly. And they both sat there, in the deafening silence of the secret room. Soleil squeezed Fou's hand's tightly. Fou chuckled. Fou let go of one of Soleil's hands, and wiped their tears away. Soleil pressed their face against Fou's hand, still clasping his other hand. Fou felt Soleil basically melt into his hand. He smiled and pulled xem closer. Soleil squeaked happily, a few more tears falling down his face. Fou quickly wiped them away. He smiled. It was amazing to feel the relief of helping another, especially one he cared about so much. He ran his fingers through the tufts of hair that peeked out from Soleil's hat. It was quiet, but in a good way. The silence was comfortable. Soleil closed his eyes and smiled happily. Fou closed his eyes and kissed Soleil softly. He smiled through the kiss, but pulled away quickly. He opened his eyes, Soleil was staring directly at him with the melancholy look he wore everyday. "You know I love you, right?" Fou said. Soleil nodded and hugged Fou tightly. "Oh, my love, you're going to kill me..." he said. His insides felt like they were being squished, "No, really, you're going to kill me!!"
