Chapter 1: Fall of a Queen

Chapter Text

Izuku had only ever had his mother.

Actually, he only had his mother once he was diagnosed as quirkless. Before then he had other people.

He had friends, though they were rough around the edges. They’d tease him for not being able to do certain things, he couldn’t help it though. Izuku was always shorter than his friends, he was scrawny and didn’t care for sports. This isn’t to say he didn’t have his strengths; he was smart with a knack for analysis even at a young age. He was good at computers and was always very kind. Izuku had also learned he was flexible. Other than a girl in his daycare class, he was the only one who could bring his foot up to his head.

His dad, who wasn’t ever in the picture, was flexible too, according to his mother at least.

But he had his friends, four of them, including Kacchan. Kacchan’s parents became his aunt and uncle, they were always there for birthdays and holiday events.

It changed when he was diagnosed as quirkless.

He’d turned four and still had no quirk, so his mom, the sweet and worried mother she was, took him to a quirk specialist to see what was wrong.

“It’s not going to happen.” He’d said.

His mother was distraught and blamed herself for him being quirkless. Izuku didn’t blame her though, he wouldn’t dare.

When he had gotten home that day he watched his favorite All Might video. All Might’s debut always managed to cheer him up, though it didn’t do much that day.

“Do you think I could be a hero too?”

“I’m so sorry Izuku!” His mother’s words weren’t reassuring, nor did they make him feel better and though he still dreamed of being a hero, he let it drop for now.

Kacchan had gotten aggressive with him since finding out, despite the new development, Izuku continued to follow him.

Up until Kacchan used his quirk on him, then he stopped seeking him out.

Bright and wide-eyed Izuku became quiet, terrified, Deku.

Izuku hid his injuries from his mother, she had enough stress as it was raising a kid like him. She needed to buy expensive shoes so he could walk comfortably, and she had to have two jobs just to keep them afloat while she studied to get a more stable job.

By time Izuku turned ten he’d become a pro at hiding his injuries and downplaying any punishments he got at school from his tormentors actions.

Unfortunately, life had to throw another curve ball at him.

He’d already been having a rough day, getting to school a little late because of a villain attack stopping his bus terminal before he could get to school. He got a disciplinary as soon as he walked through his classroom doors.

His classmates laughed as he ducked his eyes over his obnoxious curls, embarrassment clear on his face.

“Deku’s so stupid.”

“Did he forget what time school started?”

Izuku ignored the jeers and taunts and he got to his seat.

The morning was nearly over, almost time for lunch when there was a knock on the classroom door. Their teacher walked over to let the visitors in.

“Hello, Principal Sakura, and you as well officer. How can I help you?” The mention of the police officer was enough for everyone to get quiet and stop their work.

Kacchan, Izuku noted, kept doing his work. He’d never had respect for law enforcement outside of heroes.

“Do you have a Midoriya Izuku?” For the second time that day, all eyes were on him, the principal wasn’t exactly quiet and a group of kids eavesdropping didn’t make him any quieter.

“Yes, I do. Why?” The teacher’s voice changed to an annoyed tone.

“I need him to come with me.” The officer leaned over to the teacher and whispered something. The teacher looked surprised, then empathetic.

“Of course,” The teacher turned towards the class, specifically at Izuku, “Midoriya-Kun, please pack your things.” Izuku did as he was told, with trembling hands.

He wasn’t sure what was going on and he was still a kid despite how much the bullying mentally aged him.

Once Izuku got his stuff, tripping on the way out because of course he did, he followed the officer out of the building.

She was tall with a slight mutation, fangs protruding from her teeth. She had black hair and red eyes, a stereotypical vampire look.

“I’m not scaring you, am I kiddo?” Izuku shook his head before speaking.

“Where are we going?” The officer looked hesitant before shaking her head.

“We have to go to the station, but don’t worry you’re not in trouble.” She opened the back door for him and he slipped in buckling his seat after putting his bookbag down next to him.

After he was buckled in and settled the officer shut the door and opened her door, shutting it after her. She got situated and looked back at Izuku in the rearview mirror.

“I’m Officer Wiseman, by the way.” Izuku’s brows furrowed before his eyes lit up.

“You’re not Japanese like I am.” Officer Wiseman laughed and turned her eyes on the road to start driving.

“That’s right, I’m not. I’m from America, specifically Florida.” Izuku’s eyes were wide with curiosity, but he felt hesitant to ask. “I hope my quirk isn’t scaring you, it’s a vampire quirk. I have super speed and strength, though I’m fairly weak in the daylight, but I usually work a lot of night shifts so that’s not usually a problem.” Izuku’s head tilted to the side.

“Why’re you working the day shift today?” Wiseman hesitated before slowly replying.

“They had a specific assignment for me to do.” Izuku nodded like he understood, even though he didn’t. He understood needing her for a specific assignment, most likely for her quirk or talents, but he didn’t understand what the assignment was.

“That makes sense.”

After a few minutes of driving and talking, they’d made it to the station where Izuku was immediately led into an office.

“You wait right here, okay? Detective Tsukauchi will be here soon.” Izuku muttered an agreement and sat down in one of the chairs at the desk.

What felt like an hour passed when in reality it was only ten minutes before the detective walked in.

“Hello Midoriya-San, how are you today?” The detective’s voice was oddly stressed, almost sad.

“I’m okay, how are you?” The detective gave him a sad smile as he sat down in his chair.

“I’m fine, thank you.” The man pulled his hands together and looked at Izuku. “I’m sorry to pull you out of school but this is important.” Izuku sat up a little straighter despite feeling his whole body shaking.

“It’s okay.”

“I’m sure you’re aware of this morning's attack?” Izuku nodded clasping his hands together to stop the shaking.

“I was late to school this morning because of it.” The detective heaved a sigh and muttered something that sounded like a word Aunt Mitsuki used often.

“Well in the attack, some people got really hurt, and they didn’t make it.” Tsukauchi hesitated before continuing, “Midoriya-San I am so sorry to tell you this, but your mom was one of those people.”

Izuku took a minute to process what the detective was telling him.

His mom was, gone? The only person to actually care about him was just… gone. That couldn’t be right, she was going to be in their apartment at four, right after her shift. She’d help him with homework if he needed it and cook dinner. Then they’d watch a movie, most likely All Might, and then she’d tell him goodnight.

She had to, no one else would. He doesn’t have kacchan anymore, he doesn’t have his aunt or uncle because they’re busy, and he doesn’t have his dad.

“No, she… she’s okay. She has to be.” Izuku felt his throat tighten, tears forming in his eyes. “She’ll be home by four, she’s always home by that time to help… help me with homework.”

“I’m so sorry… I know you want some time to process this, but before I give you some space can you do something for me?”

Why should Izuku have to do something for him? He just wants his mom.

Despite his feelings saying otherwise, Izuku nodded.

“Can you let me get a mouth swab from you?” Izuku’s brows furrowed, not understanding why the detective needed that, but he was too upset to question it. He just nodded and as Tsukauchi put some gloves on and brought out a cotton swab Izuku just opened his mouth and let it happen. “Thank you Midoriya… I’ll give you some space now. Is there anything I can do for you?” Izuku shook his head and looked down at the floor.

He heard the detective sigh before opening the door and closing it again.

“Izuku, baby, it’s time for school! Have to get up, hun.” Izuku groaned under his blankets but sat up, his mom placing a quick kiss on his head.

“Mornin’ Mom…” He murmured, voice groggy from sleep.

“Good morning, I’m headed to work, okay? Stay safe going to school and remember your lunch, it’s on the counter for you to grab.”

“Okay, stay safe, I love you,” Izuku said, getting out of bed.

“I love you, too.”

That couldn’t have been his last conversation with his mom, could it? Sure, it was a nice one, their last words to each other were saying ‘I love you’ but, he couldn’t believe how mundane it was. Better than an argument, but he wished he would’ve hugged her.

Oh god, he’s never going to get to hug her again. He can’t hug his mom anymore, or hear her say ‘I love you,’ or anything.

He was completely alone now.

Where would he even go? His mom was gone. His dad had never been in the picture, he didn’t even know what he looked like or his name, or age, or quirk, nothing. His aunt and uncle tried to stay clear of him when he was diagnosed because they knew Kacchan was rough on him.

He was completely alone. He’d go into the system, and he knew the likelihood of him being adopted considering his quirk status.

Izuku won’t make it without his mom, he needed his mom she was all he had. Without her, he’ll end up like the teens he’d see on the news, dead by their own hands all for an extra joint.

Would that be so bad though? He’d be with his mom again, then. He won’t have to deal with bullies or discrimination.

He could hug his mom again. Kami, he wanted to hug his mom, he just wanted to hear her voice one more time. Izuku would give anything to have her here with him right now. Hugging him and trying to tame his curls, reassuring him that she was here and that everything is fine.

Before Izuku knew it, there was a knock on the door before it opened. This time the detective walked in with someone else, a man Izuku thought was Eraserhead, but he wasn’t sure.

“Midoriya? There’s someone here who wants to meet you.” Izuku made eye contact with the Eraserhead look-a-like.

He was tall, taller than the detective, and had long black, curly hair. The man’s curls weren’t as prominent as Izuku’s, they were looser, but you could tell he had them. If Izuku looked past the dark circles under the man’s eyes he could see freckles.

“This is Aizawa Shouta and with that mouth swab I got from you earlier… we’ve identified him as your dad…”

His what?
