Work Text:
“hello baby” Robin chirped as the little girl raised her arms to try to grab her hair. Robin put her hand on the round belly and tickled her stomach. She held her daughter close to her chest, she felt her baby's little hands feeling at the buttons of her shirt and trying to pull them.
Nancy had gotten pregnant a little over a year ago, she had promised her that she hadn't slept with anyone other than her. Robin remembered talking about wanting kids with Nancy, she couldn't remember if it was serious or not, but Nancy seemed to like it when Robin brought it up and flipped her over on the mattress. Nancy became pregnant and Robin never doubted her sincerity, but the most striking thing was that their little girl looked like Robin, the same little triangular nose, the round, receding chin and the protruding ears, the only thing she had inherited from Nancy were her eyes. Their little girl with big turquoise blue eyes, round and curious, she gave Robin the most beautiful puppy eyes, exactly the same as Nancy and she could never resist.
They called her Amelie, it was a very pretty French name, it was the first name of Robin's paternal grandmother, Nancy thought that names ending in -ie were cute, like the common nickname she gave to Robin, being, Robbie.
“Mom left for work very early this morning so I’m going to make you something to eat, applesauce okay with you?” Robin never liked applesauce, she loves apples actually, but she didn't like anything that tasted like an apple and didn't look like an apple. She unscrewed the lid of the pot of compote made by Karen Wheeler and poured a small amount into a ramekin, she took a soft plastic spoon and approached her daughter sitting in the high chair.
“open your mouth baby” Robin imitated as she opened her mouth and the baby giggled as the spoon reached her mouth. She swallowed it all and moved her lips to swallow it all. Robin made the rocket to amuse her daughter, she made her finish the bowl and wiped her forehead and chin covered with compote. “little princess spat” She grabbed a wet wipe and wiped the whole face sticky with applesauce, she watched her daughter try to lick the wipe, the smell of the soap smelled nice and smelled sweet.
She carried her and walked her around the kitchen as she patted her back, she felt a hiccup. “get everything out, you're going to have a big tantrum afterwards, you're going to have a stomach ache” gas was difficult and painful for Amélie, she could have endless crying attacks, so Robin always made sure to make her do two burps. Another hiccup made the baby jump and Robin kissed her little face, she heard her baby's soft laugh, she noticed the traces of the sheets on her cheeks, they had had a big night, Robin loved sleeping with her ever since she knew sleep through the night.
She laid her baby down on the sofa, putting a cushion on the edge so she wouldn't fall, she looked at the round belly and filled it overflowing with her diaper under the onesie. She loved seeing Amélie's feet wiggling, she was going to be much better at walking than her, she blew a raspberry on her stomach, a happy squeak echoed throughout the living room, Robin did it again and her laughter was so loud that she felt herself laughing with her, as if that was all she could do.
No matter how Amelie had arrived, Robin loved her forever, she was her daughter, her baby, she will take care of her all her life.
“I love you little shrimp” she kissed chubby cheek.
