Work Text:
Yuuta was always a late riser, it was even worse on weekends when he had no missions. He opened his sleep crusted eyes and looked at his clock, 1:30pm. Yuuta groaned, not wanting to sleep in this late since he knew a certain cursed speech user always made breakfast on the weekends, now he’ll just have to have some toast with jam on it.
He lifted himself from bed and hastily put on his house slippers before he left his room heading straight for the dining room.
He could hear some idle chatter from both Maki and Panda’s loud voices, with the occasional rice ball ingredient. Yuuta stepped into the doorway, hoping he wouldn't get chastised, “Hey, sleeping beauty is finally awake.” He was wrong.
Panda snickered at Maki’s comment, while Inumaki offered him a small, “Konbu.”
Yuuta scratched the back of his head, “Uhm, good morning? Or…afternoon?” he laughed awkwardly.
Maki rolled her eyes, “You missed breakfast, but Toge felt bad enough for you so he’s making you lunch.”
Yuuta’s eyes widened slightly, turning to look at the cursed speech user, he was facing away from him but he could see the tips of his ears turn pink.
“Why don’t you help him out, Yuuta?” Panda asked, winking at him.
“Oh! I wouldn't want to get in his way!” Yuuta fretted.
Inumaki turned his head over his shoulder, “Okaka.”
“See? He said it’s fine.” Panda exaggerated his wink.
Yuuta wasn't sure if he was right or just making it up since he has yet to decipher the ingredient speech, he glanced at the other and was met with a nod.
“W-Well if you'll have me…” Yuuta muttered.
He joined Inumaki in the kitchen, awkwardly standing next to him, not knowing what to do next. Yuuta heard the other two snort from their chairs, Inumaki also joining them with a small huff of laughter.
“Tuna tuna.” The other passed a bowl of rice towards the other, “Mentaiko,” he passed another bowl, “Tuna, shake.”
Yuuta blinked at the ingredients in front of him, one was a bowl of rice, and the other was, “Tuna!” He exclaimed, happy he understood what Inumaki was saying, they were making onigiri for lunch.
Inumaki giggled from beside him, a giddy smile also appearing on Yuuta’s face.
They put on their gloves and got to work, Yuuta mixed the filling while Inumaki carefully prepared the rice. The time passes with light conversation from the two of them, Yuuta slowly getting the grasp of Inumaki’s coded speech, he couldn't be happier.
Once it was time to shape the onigiri, Inumaki did it with practiced ease, while Yuuta’s came out lopsided, “Oh…guess I’m not too good at this.” he chuckled.
“Sujiko,” Inumaki placed his perfectly shaped onigiri down and stood closer to the other.
Yuuta tried ignoring the heat that climbed into his face with how close he was, but it was near impossible when Inumaki placed his hands around his.
“U-Uh–!?” He failed to make any words. The cursed speech user ignored him, and continued to move his hands around his, mumbling a few words, Yuuta wasn’t sure if they meant anything.
Yuuta’s face burned as the other helped to mold the rice in his hands, they weren't even directly touching hands because of the gloves, but with him standing so close he couldn't think of anything else.
“Mentaiko!” Inumaki exclaimed, releasing Yuuta’s hands.
He finally looked down at what they had molded together (using the term together lightly), it was a triangle shaped onigiri. It wasn't as perfect as Inumaki, but it actually looked like what it was supposed to be now.
“Wow! Inumaki, you're great at this!” Yuuta smiled brightly.
“Shake shake!” Inumaki smiled just as brightly back, giving a thumbs up.
“Hey, are you two going to start sucking faces now or are you done?!” Maki raged from her chair.
The two might have been too wrapped up in themselves to notice the others in the room. Both of their faces burned red as they apologized and finished prepping the rest of the food.
After they finished with lunch, everyone went to continue their day, Yuuta shuffled back to his room, hand close to his chest, he couldn't forget the warmth from the other boy.
