Work Text:
Yoohan rarely, if ever, missed a call. Especially from Jay. He'd complain and sputter about the indignity of having to answer to Jay, but he would still pick up the call or replied to his message.
Jay stared down at this phone, his expression growing murderous by each passing second. 21 outgoing calls, all unanswered. There would be more if Yoohan's phone was still active, but the phone operator's autonomous voice had cruelly told him his number was now unreachable. Much like the man himself, who didn't deign to tell Jay of his plans for the day.
He took a deep breath and pushed himself off his chair, already working out a plan. He had eyes and ears throughout the city; it wouldn't take long for him to track down Yoohan's whereabouts. His calculated steps across the floor were sharper than usual, and he couldn't control the twitches in his face. He's shaking in anger, though it's not at the thought of Yoohan currently being held captive by that fucking bastard chairman.
He'd tried his absolute best to tie Yoohan down to him. Shower him with affection, and be understanding of his suffering. All for the sole purpose of giving Yoohan a reason to live for. Even if the reason is as selfish as for one person. He could have sworn he was successful in his endeavors; Yoohan was openly worried for his health and wellbeing these days and didn't speak of his past with the same recklessness as before.
And yet — Yoohan, by his own choice, had disappeared into thin air. Jay could make as many assumptions as he wanted for Yoohan's reason to do so. He might simply not want his assistance to deal with the crippling old man's henchmen. He could be in a situation where he was unable to do so. But in all situations that involved Yoohan, Jay had full belief in his well-honed instincts. Yoohan had not contacted him before and during his predicament because he was fully aware that Jay would do everything he can to stop his impending death, and if given a chance to slip away into the afterlife, he would take it up with no hesitation.
Jay had never felt so powerless in his entire life. All the money and power he'd acquired wasn't, and would never be enough to tether Yoohan to him if the feeling was not mutual. He wasn't even sure if his anger was directed at Yoohan for not confiding in him, or if it was towards himself for not giving into his desires to simply lock Yoohan up to keep him away from harm.
He was already buckled up and revving the engine when his phone beeped, alerting him to Yoohan's location.
Throughout the trip, his mind was occupied with things that would scare Yoohan off if they were spoken out loud.
Yoohan was bloodied and unconscious. Jay didn't spare his attacker a glance, gently taking Yoohan into his arms, confirming he's still alive, and drove him to the nearest hospital. He would have to deal with the charges from running into every red light later.
His fury had simmered at the sight of Yoohan, small and crumpled, lying in a puddle of his blood. If Yoohan had tried putting Jay in his shoes, making him feel what he had felt when he came across his younger brother's body, he would have succeeded. Ironically, it was the stinging pain in his chest and the nausea rising in his throat that helped him to compose himself and quickly establish a plan that would chain Yoohan to him for the rest of his life.
Yoohan had made him taste fear and loss. It was only fair Jay repaid the favor.
He was eerily calm when he made his proposition, wrapping his hand around Yoohan and forcing him to hold his own folding knife that he always kept close. Yoohan looked up at him, terrified out of his mind. Jay hadn't ever seen him wear that expression, even when he was acting. It brought him some sense of victory — only he, and he alone, had the privilege of seeing that particular expression. Of being the only one capable of drawing such feelings from an outwardly cold and detached man.
He made Yoohan sink the knife into him, slicing across his forearm in a wide arc. Blood sluiced out and into the starkly white sheets, immediately dyeing them red, but Jay kept hold of Yoohan's hand.
"Stop! What the hell are you doing, y-you..." Yoohan was yelling at the top of his lungs, trying his hardest to buck Jay off of him, to no avail. Good, let him feel. "Please, stop, I don't want... I don't want this—"
"What does it matter what you want?" Jay asked calmly. The pain of having his arm torn up didn't register in his mind. Instead, the euphoria from seeing Yoohan's reaction fed him like a drug. He wondered if Yoohan would weep over him if he put himself in a life-threatening situation. It would be worth it, to see that mask crack open. "You made me watch you bleed to death, without telling me anything. Did you think I want that?"
Yoohan was struck silent, his widened eyes still focused on Jay's bleeding arm. His fingers were shaking in Jay's grip, and his body was trembling. "Wh... what are you...?"
Jay took pity on him and threw away the knife. It clattered on the floor as he wrapped Yoohan in an embrace, smearing blood all over his white and blue hospital uniform. Yoohan's arms laid limp against his body, but Jay could feel a tear and two seeping into his shirt. His heart soared further; he moved Yoohan into tears. What a fucking achievement.
"Did it hurt?" Jay whispered into his hair. There wasn't any answer, but he didn't need one. "Remember this pain well, Yoohan. When you put yourself in danger, I feel the same way you're feeling right now. Do you understand me now?"
Yoohan's convulsing in his arms, and more tears streamed down his face. Jay had never seen someone prettier in his life. He dropped a kiss on Yoohan's forehead, relishing the taste of sweat. He'd made his point clear enough for their standards; one would not live without the other. Yoohan seemed to underestimate his importance in Jay's life for whatever fucking reason, so he had to pull a last resort to convince him. It worked better than he'd expected, with Yoohan deliriously muttering a string of apologies into his chest. Jay stroked the back of his head with his other arm comfortingly.
Even if this method entailed using Yoohan's insurmountable guilt and harming himself, Yoohan would think twice about dying without Jay now. Mission accomplished.
