Work Text:
Nicolò was looking out over the ocean and the sun setting for the day. He was thinking about his feelings regarding Yusuf, feelings he shouldn't have. That much he knew, but a part of him was so tired of fighting against his feelings, and he wondered what would happen if he gave in to his feelings. And then there was the question, did Yusuf have feelings for him, too? Maybe the solution was that they should part for a time. Maybe that would clear his mind and cure the feelings he had. He had after all in his previous life as a monk, been used to being all alone. He closed his eyes and felt the wind on his face when he heard steps behind him.
Yusuf: "Sorry, but our dinner won the fight tonight. Do you know if we have more of that dry bread left?"
Yusuf had spent hours trying to catch a rabbit.
Nicolò: "I have some left in my saddle bags. Let me find it."
When Nicolò walked past Yusuf, Yusuf stopped Nicolò in his tracks by taking his hand. It wasn't the first time they had held hands, and as before, it gave butterflies in their stomachs.
Yusuf: "Answer me this, Nicolò, why do you still fight your feelings towards me?"
Nicolò: "Because it isn't an easy thing to deal with."
Yusuf decided to be brave and risk it all by turning Nicolò around so they were face to face. Then Yusuf leaned their foreheads together, and when Nicolò didn't pull away, they stood like that for a moment.
Yusuf: "Sometimes you just have to let your feelings speak for you because I believe that they can speak louder than words can."
Nicolò: "Is it really that easy because I'm afraid of the answer my feelings will give me if I let them speak for me?"
Yusuf: "I let my feelings speak for me when I turned you around, and look what that resulted in - us being closer than ever before. And now I can't wait to see what happens next because I like, no, I love being so close to my moon that lit up my nights for me when I'm lost in darkness."
Nicolò decided that if Yusuf could be brave, so could he. With a trembling heart and even more trembling hands, Nicolò placed one hand on Yusuf's lower back to pull him closer and placed his other hand on Yusuf's nape. Yusuf got the gist of Nicolò's actions, and they kissed for the first time. It was there that Nicolò knew that Yusuf was right about that sometimes things really that easy when you let your feelings speak for you. It was just a matter of finding the right one who would listen when you spoke - something they had found in each other.
