Not Quite Right

Summary:

Yoshino asks Kirishima about his detergent

Notes:

(See the end of the work for notes.)

Work Text:

By all accounts it was a normal commute to school. The only differences were Yoshino had little to do but nothing to say so she simply let her mind wander as Kirishima did not often engage in small talk, unless he wanted something, and that the day was particularly windy. So when the trains door opened at the stop the wind caught just right to waft a familiar scent to her nose.

It was strong but not overwhelming, sweet but not flowery, warm and crisp all at once, Yoshino hadn’t a clue what the scent was but knew exactly where it came from. Slowly her eyes went to the source his eyes already set on her as though she were the only thing worth looking at. Kirishima smiled when he caught her gaze and it made her regret her choice to look.

“Something wrong Yoshino?” He asked happily glad for her attention to be on him.

“No nothing really just wondering something.” She started and she debated asking at all. He titled his head in curiosity though and she knew he’d never let it drop. “I was just wondering what laundry detergent you use?”

“Laundry detergent?”

“The one I’ve been getting is running low and I haven’t seen it being stocked lately so I was looking for a recommendation.” It wasn’t completely a lie, she was running low and the brand hadn’t been as well stocked but it wasn’t like she couldn’t get it. The fact was she’d rather die than tell him she thought he smelt nice, she’d never hear the end of it. Best to just act like she was looking for a recommendation.

“Oh I use C-ko brand’s winter spring.” He responded plainly and she was grateful he wasn’t making a thing of it. “I can give you some if you want to test it out?”

“That’s actually a good idea, thanks.” As quickly as she thanked him though she glared. “That was a strangely reasonable response you sure you’re Kirishima?” He only laughed in response.

Yoshino breathed in the freshly dried shirt from the batch of laundry with Kirishima’s detergent and frowned in disappointment. It wasn’t that it smelt bad it was just that it wasn’t quite right.

“Maybe he uses more? Or a softener?” She muttered to herself as she continued to fold. Taking a small sniff each time wondering what had gone wrong.

“Did you try the detergent?” The man in question asked having come from a run and using the hose for a quick refresh.

“Oh yeah I did….”

“Did you not like it?” He asked seeing her despondence.

“Oh no! It’s fine it’s fine just uh thought it’d smell different.” She tried to brush it off, there was no way she’d say it didn’t smell like him. What kind of weirdo knew what another person smelt like anyway.

“I thought you wouldn’t dislike it at least. After all it’s the closest I could match to your scent.”

His words lingered in the air as he sat next to her. Yoshinos mouth gapped at what Kirishima just said.

“Closest to how I……” she could barely get it out.

“Yeah I wanted to have your smell around me as much as possible so I tinkered with various things and that detergent was the closest but still not quite right. Guess even your smell can’t be replicated.” He laughed as though he had said something utterly innocuous. “Though knowing you are using same detergent as me makes me happy. It’s so intimate like we’re married and living together already.”

“I’m redoing this with my old detergent.”

“Why? It’s such a waste.”

Notes:

Very short but I just wanted to do a thing on the fact that Yoshino likes how Kirishima smells but she thinks its just his detergent.
